to think that those Mnetters who think bootcuts are Mum jeans and we should only wear skinnies are either a size 10 or smaller, and/or 5ft 6 or taller?

Surely people should wear what suit their figure? Skinnies only seem to look flattering on tall and/or slim people if you ask me! Aren't most women pear shapes with bigger hips and thighs and therefore would suit bootcuts much more?

Discuss.

I have thighs like a footballer so skinny jeans are a definite no no for me. Boot cut all the way as long as they cover the boot, not hover over the ankle!

But then I am 33 going on 63 so I don't mind leaving fashion for those who can carry it off! Grin

IneedAbetterNicknameIn2012 · 16/01/2012 19:42

Definately no problem with bootcuts not covering my boots, even 'petite' trousers are too long ffs

ArtVandelay · 16/01/2012 19:46

Oh dear, some of my skinny jeans are sprayed on Blush Only wear them on a night out though. I am thin with very thin legs and bootcut jeans make me look stocky and wierd. I don't understand why people are thinking they are more forgiving/flattering than skinnies.

Kitchentiles · 16/01/2012 19:47

I'm a bony size 8 and would never wear skinnies. I'd be afraid of looking like a beanpole with boats for feet.

I go bootcut but have wondered if I'm hopelessly out of date. Hmmm.

Lueji · 16/01/2012 19:50

Feminine, are you me?Wink
Except for pilates.
I thank my genes.
I wear skinnies and boot cut and straight cut, plus long skiirts, knee lengths and minis. Mummy boots and tall boots, heels and no heels.

noddyholder · 16/01/2012 19:51

I am 46 and wear skinnies and ballet flats but have skinny thighs and small feet. I think they are a basic classic now and lots of my clothes would not look right with other jeans. I am 5'5 as well so shoot me. I do wear skinny bootcuts but mumsy ones no way. I also wear leggings jeggings and any other eggings that I like. Not about age it is about how you look in them. My younger sister wouldn't wear them as she has a huge bum

LittlePandaBear · 16/01/2012 19:53

Ooo, lots of debate, didn't know it would turn age-ist too!

I'm a size 12 so not huge but big thighs, slim calves and being 5ft 2 on a good day means that skinnies just don't suit me. Straight jeans also don't work as if they fit my thighs, they'd still be wide at the bottom anyway and completely shapeless!

I did give in and bought some Levi skinnies in the sales, wore them once, felt dumpy and frumpy and have wasted my money.

Interesting that lots of posters who love their skinnies/straight don't say how tall/slim they are...

And also I remember my mum always wearing straight cut jeans when I was a kid in the 80's, bootcuts didn't come out until later (or so I remember) so straight jeans are mum jeans to me!

Where what you want but if mn fashion people say skinny is the way - surely that was the way about 5 years ago in London. I remember then wearing skinny army style and my much younger colleages actually laughing at me in their skinnies.

That WAS five years ago.

Surely 'fashion' has changed since then?

I'm a flabby 8-10. Nothing looks that good but I look better clothed than naken. Couldn't give a damned what other people wear - I just wear what I like. so should everyone.

snowmaiden · 16/01/2012 20:03

My favourite pair of jeans are a "slim-fit bootcut". Slim through the thigh and calf with a slight flare to cover my converses.

LadyFlumpalot · 16/01/2012 20:03

I like my bootcut for going over my boots or trainers. I like my skinny jeans for going in my boots or with sky high heels for a night out.

I'm a 6 or 8 dependent on time of the month.

MabelOrange · 16/01/2012 20:09

May I ask if we're allowed to wear jeans that fit on the waist now?

giveitago · 16/01/2012 20:12

We all suit certain things for our shapes. I'm fairly slim but am entirely out of proportion so would never wear a polo neck (yuk on massive tits). I see young tall girls with lovely long legs and their skinny jeans make them look like chicken legs.

We all suit or don't suit certain things but at the end of the day just wear what you want.

I personally like a skinny jean on a shorter lady (not me though) with a slighly fuller figure so you can see a feminine figure and a proper sexy arse - not a flat arse.

spiderslegs · 16/01/2012 20:14

I have one pair of skinnies, they make me look like a carrot, smidgen under 5' 8", size 8-10 but a humongous curvy arse, shapely thighs & skinny ankles.

I only wear boot-cut or flares but buy them both from Net-a-Porter (7 For All Mankind or J Brand) so they can't be that far beyond the pale in fashion terms.

Can they???

Have to say though when I had a fringe cut they looked wrong-diddly-wrong so I stopped wearing jeans until I grew it out. I guess they're not as edgy (neither am I any more at 37) but can still look pretty stylish if worn at the right length with the right things.

giveitago · 16/01/2012 20:17

Oh spider - you saying you didn't wear skinnies when you had a fringe? Are you mad? You had a fringe - could have fringe? I'm so envious! What - a proper fringe? That's my huge style aim - a fringe - sadly I don't have the hair for fringe - but I LOVE them.

ViviPru · 16/01/2012 20:22

Sz14 5'6" straight cut advocate

ViviPru · 16/01/2012 20:23

Yes Mabel I decree it so.

spiderslegs · 16/01/2012 20:26

I know giveit but I would have looked like a carrot. With a fringe.

(& yes it was a proper fringe, did like it, may still go back to it, having an in-between moment).

Avenged · 16/01/2012 20:27

Does anyone know where I could get jeans with a 27" leg? Tried all sorts of stores from M&S to Tesco to Dunnes and none of them do less than a 29" leg. I'm 4'10" and have hockey player/gymnast legs (muscly thighs and wide calves).

I'd love to be able to buy a pair of jeans that I don't have to pay £5-10 to take up the leg (I'm crap at taking up trouser legs).

ladyasriel · 16/01/2012 20:27

33, 8-10, boot cuts make me think of the 90s. No thanks!

dexter73 · 16/01/2012 20:28

I am 5'7" and a size 12. I have 34" legs. I wear skinnies, straight and bootcut. I think they all look nice.

SmethwickBelle · 16/01/2012 20:28

Gap do a "long and lean" which is a nice higher waisted but stylish bootcut by any other name Grin

Gap cut things a little longer and/or there is more choice on length - it's a brilliant cut if you are a bit taller than the average - it's not sloppy, still a little tailored but not in a Next-Bootcut-Two-Inches-Too-Short way.

Next Jeans are to be avoided - I used to live in them but Gap are similar price and much better cut these days.

Bogeyface · 16/01/2012 20:31

I loathe bootcuts, I think they are unflattering on almost everyone!

Wear M&S higher rise straight leg jeans. V V flattering and vv comfy! I did wear skinnies before I had my last DC but it will take some serious dieting to get into those again :o

Bogeyface · 16/01/2012 20:31

I wear M&S, that wasnt an order :o

IneedAbetterNicknameIn2012 · 16/01/2012 20:34
