to think that those Mnetters who think bootcuts are Mum jeans and we should only wear skinnies are either a size 10 or smaller, and/or 5ft 6 or taller?

Surely people should wear what suit their figure? Skinnies only seem to look flattering on tall and/or slim people if you ask me! Aren't most women pear shapes with bigger hips and thighs and therefore would suit bootcuts much more?

I think bootcut are fine if they are long enough. What looks awful are the ones that don't cover the shoes properly and are about 1cm too short.
Size 18+ can wear skinny if they're an apple because they might still have ok legs, you'd need a long top though.

I don't get the 'mum' jeans, 'mum' boot, 'mum' hair thing.

We're on MUMSnet, you're walking down the street followed by several little people who look a lot like you, often with a buggy- are you seriously thinking people don't think you're a MUM?

ViviPru · 16/01/2012 19:16

I see your "huge" and I raise you 43cm circumference calves...

Feminine · 16/01/2012 19:18

vivi those jeans have a huge zip bit don't they?

Or am I used to low rise perhaps?

There seems to be a a lot of area Grin

laptopdancer · 16/01/2012 19:18

You cant wear wellies either vivipru ? :(

picnicbasketcase · 16/01/2012 19:19

£75 for jeans?

ViviPru · 16/01/2012 19:20

Yes there is a relatively high rise

All the better for tucking your gunts into.

Good point Gamer. Some of the super-curvy (and gorgeous) women I know have smaller legs than me and I'm a size 8. I'm pear-shaped and a runner...the more I run, the less I weigh but the bigger my legs get. You can't win!

IneedAbetterNicknameIn2012 · 16/01/2012 19:21

I am size 18/20 and have been told by many friends that my skinny jeans are slimming on me. I also have HUGE calves thanks to years of ballet dancing. If I'm honest, I wear what I like, if people don't like it on me, that is THEIR problem not mine. Grin

I have a great pair of Levis that are mostly straight but a tinsy weeny bit bootcut. I love them and they are most flattering.

I also have another old pair of Gap jeans that I think are bootcut but they are practically flares. Grin Absolutely not fashionable but they make my arse look terrific (in my opinion) Think they are called 'Long and lean' which is a bit of a joke..

Another pair of Levis makes my arse look like a sack of spuds and has far too much lumpage in the crotch area. Think they might be mens as my lower half looks like a bloke when I wear these.

Asinine · 16/01/2012 19:26

I am size 12 5'9, wear skinnies, but I look like a mum.

piratecat · 16/01/2012 19:26

those striaght cut jeans you linked go up to a 34 inch waist, straight leg jeans do not look good on me. i am larger than 34 inch waist. there must be a reason.
i would look hideous in those. my thighs are too big to even it out.

bootcuts, on me, maybe becuase i am short end up flare ish, well some bootcuts do, and they look cool, i have to have them long too.

can't bare stingy bootcuts, that are not long enough, they do look awful.

ViviPru · 16/01/2012 19:28

No no no. Not wellies. You tuck your Kims into your 1964s

And my last pair of Howies jeans (that I'm wearing as we speak) have lasted 3 years, no frayed crotch, no saggy knees, and are still my 'smart' jeans. Plus Howies always have discount codes and sales. I never pay full price.

Don't blame me blame Bup, Popbiscuit.

DonInKillerHeels · 16/01/2012 19:28

Skinnies are out of fashion.

Jeggings and leggings are just foul.

Make mine straight. Then boot cut when they come back in as they inevitably will.

LittleMissFlustered · 16/01/2012 19:28

I like wide leg/slouch jeans. I am a size 22. I am 31 and couldn't give a flying monkey's about how it looks as long as I am comfy trogging to and from school three million times a day:o

Alas, there are no decent ones about at the minute, which makes me sad as having just given birth I could do with some new trousers >_

ViviPru · 16/01/2012 19:30

When I'm bigger than a 14 and I can't fit into straight cuts (a state of affairs which comes and goes in my life), I just don't wear jeans. Just a personal choice.

ReduceRecycleRegift · 16/01/2012 19:31

I'm neither but IMO the mum jeans are the least flattering there is for all sizes so wouldn't touch them with a barge pole!

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 16/01/2012 19:32

I'm 38; size 8 and 4'11. The only jeans I'm comfortable in are Primark skinnies, short. Anything even slightly bootcut looks ridiculous.

ReduceRecycleRegift · 16/01/2012 19:34

actually jeans in general are IMO one of the least flattering pieces of clothing ever invented so I avoid, but while some people of various sizes look good in various other cuts, noone looks great to me in mum jeans

bucketbetty · 16/01/2012 19:34

Wear what suits. I'm a size 12 and wear skinny jeans or boyfriend jeans and I also think you can wear skinny jeans even if you're a size 20, depending very much what your style is. I don't think only skinny people can wear skinny jeans - it's all about personal style. Sorry, I do think boot cut are a bit mumsy though. Smile

TurkeyBurgerThing · 16/01/2012 19:36

Aaah well I'm 5'9 and a size 14 so probably pretty average. I wear bootcut, skinny, flare, leggings, tights with jeans and straight cut. Some people probably look at me and thing "what is she wearing" but I gives not one fuckio. I wear what I bloody well want to!
