to think that those Mnetters who think bootcuts are Mum jeans and we should only wear skinnies are either a size 10 or smaller, and/or 5ft 6 or taller?

Surely people should wear what suit their figure? Skinnies only seem to look flattering on tall and/or slim people if you ask me! Aren't most women pear shapes with bigger hips and thighs and therefore would suit bootcuts much more?

Discuss.

Depends how skinny the skinnies are, really. Spray-ons (and by definition leggings) look bloody awful on anyone, no matter what their age/figure. But, figure dependant, older women can look as good if not better than younger women in figure hugging clothes.

ENormasSnob · 16/01/2012 18:57

Halter neck + jeans = time warped to the 90's.

Suit jacket and jeans = better.

Only IMO of course.

laptop...so an out of shape 20 something would pass?

Women of 46 should still look good in them ...Grin

laptopdancer · 16/01/2012 18:59

Im not talking about figures.

i just think jeans dont look good on older women.

(and I wear them :))

Feminine · 16/01/2012 18:59

callisto I agree with you.

Spray on jeans are bad news ...for anyone.

Popbiscuit · 16/01/2012 19:00

Skinnies are best avoided by those who are "athletic of leg". Doesn't matter what size you are, they just don't suit some shapes.

Feminine · 16/01/2012 19:00

laptop what on earth is left then?

What should I be aiming toward? in my new decade?

tanfastic · 16/01/2012 19:00

I am 38 and have skinnies in my wardrobe but only when I was a size 12 could I get away with them. I'm a 14 now and they look ridiculous. I now prefer straight cut and I have a black pair and indigo.

Bootcut are rather dated in my opinion, whether you are 18 or 80.

laptopdancer · 16/01/2012 19:00

This is the dilemma!

drywhiteplease · 16/01/2012 19:03

V Beckham has been wearing flared/boot cut recently. I love Gap sexy boot cut worn long with platform boot.similarly I love my straight fit with tunic top and ballerinas in summer.and I am 45.

FlossieFromCrapstonVillas · 16/01/2012 19:03

Yeah, but there's bootcut and bootcut. You have to shell out for a nice cut. As with anything really.

workshy · 16/01/2012 19:04

I'm 6ft and pear shaped -boot cut is the only style that suits me -especially since long tops are very rarely long on me -although short dresses with leggins work

Popbiscuit · 16/01/2012 19:06

I think jeans are just really problematic, generally. Too big in the waist, too tight in the leg, the stretching and gaping that happens after you get them home. I have ONE very expensive pair of jeans that fit me perfectly, other than that I live in cargos or more tailored trousers. I love jeans but they just don't love me back Sad.

PippiL · 16/01/2012 19:06

I am size 14 and wear skinnies, but only ever with a tunic top and boots, and only cos they fit into boots better.

Come summer I'll have my gap curvy jeans back on...if I can fit into them.

Ps just as i dont like having to see arse crack hangovers (hence making sure mine is covered) there is also nothing worse than a total skinny malinky in sknnies, showing off a "no arse".

AbsofCroissant · 16/01/2012 19:08

So, 5'6" is tall now?

(I'm 5'7")

picnicbasketcase · 16/01/2012 19:08

I don't see the point in buying whatever the current fashion is regardless of your size or shape. Clearly a size 20 woman should not wear skinny fit jeans. Neither do I see how any jeans look dated anyway, unless they are 80's stonewashed or something. Buy whatever you think suits you and you feel comfortable in.

A few years ago, everyone was told that that season's colour was yellow, and everyone I knew trotted off and obediently bought pastel lemon tops. A few months later they all got sent to the charity shop because yellow is a horrible colour. Why not try deciding what you like?

Craparinha · 16/01/2012 19:09

I have never seen a person look good in bootcut jeans, sorry.

Straight legs if not skinnies, for the love of fashion.

PippiL · 16/01/2012 19:10

Flares look great on some people...just not me!

laptopdancer · 16/01/2012 19:10

I cant wear straight or skinny so adestined to never wear jeans again

ViviPru · 16/01/2012 19:12

NOOOOO to bootcut jeans.

Please ladies don't Carol Jackson yourselves. You're better than that Sad

And one has to be very careful with skinnies. As you all acknowledge.

There is a straight cut middle ground!

ViviPru · 16/01/2012 19:13

Its not a question of fashion, either, I agree with Craparinha

laptopdancer · 16/01/2012 19:13

straight cut are too baggy on my bum....

laptopdancer · 16/01/2012 19:14

and they are not for thoe of us blessed with huge calves

SlackSally · 16/01/2012 19:15

The average woman is 5'4", so 5'6" is, I would say, the taller side of average. I think of 5'7" and up as 'tall'.

But then I'm 5'1"...
