to think that those Mnetters who think bootcuts are Mum jeans and we should only wear skinnies are either a size 10 or smaller, and/or 5ft 6 or taller?

Surely people should wear what suit their figure? Skinnies only seem to look flattering on tall and/or slim people if you ask me! Aren't most women pear shapes with bigger hips and thighs and therefore would suit bootcuts much more?

Discuss.

i look a sexy motherfucker in my bootcuts jeans (or maybe they are classed as flares whatever they make my legs look longer) with my plaftform boots

or at least i think i do :)

do not wear skinny jeans i have biggish legs, really straight from gap are almost skinny but not quite and suit me even though i am soon to be 40

wordfactory · 16/01/2012 21:38

I have a couple of pairs of skinnies but whenever I wear them I simply don't feel comfortable or confident.

There is absolutely no point in that surely?

MustControlFistOfDeath · 16/01/2012 21:42

piratecat Shock at those.

I hope these don't make a comeback

LittlePandaBear · 16/01/2012 21:45

Argh, the bum bit is longer than the legs!

I'm 44.. size 10 (or an 8 in Next) and love skinny jeans..but ONLY when wearing boots. I work in a special school and jeans or trousers you can bend/stretch/run in are essential! Nice fitting (not spray on) skinny jeans and comfy boots and a long tunic top are order of the day.

I have one pair of slim boot cut that I like but generally I think they look a bit dated now so hiding my others til they come back in again!

Cargos in summer tho:)

gordyslovesheep · 16/01/2012 21:55

skinnys are soooo last year though Grin

I have also sorts in my wardrobe - bootcut, straight and skinny - but this year I am loving lovely 3/4 length cigarette pants

42, size 10, midget

dexter73 · 16/01/2012 21:56

Gordy - don't your ankles get cold in this freezing weather?

laptopdancer · 16/01/2012 21:57

What shoes do you wear with cig pants?

gordyslovesheep · 16/01/2012 21:58

yes - it is the only draw back Grin worth it though

gordyslovesheep · 16/01/2012 21:59

I wear flats or short heeled ankle boots

Feminine · 16/01/2012 21:59

So if skinnies are on the way out, what look is currently happening?

I also have some skinny flares -they are nice and flattering...and they have very pretty tiny flowers on the back pockets.

Thanks Levis!

TattyDevine · 16/01/2012 21:59

Gordy is a sheep, a love sheep in fact, so she has wooly ankles.

laptopdancer · 16/01/2012 21:59

Thanks

gordyslovesheep · 16/01/2012 21:59

argghhh not short heeled .... short, heeled (as in cut to the ankle bone not above it

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 16/01/2012 22:01

I'm 26 and a pear shape. I never bought a pair of skinny jeans until I had DS and my boobs grew a bit!! I've lived in bootcut or baggy jeans as long as I have owned jeans! And then the skinny jeans are only to go in boots!
(PS, Am also 5'9'' size 14/16ish)

OnlyANinja · 16/01/2012 22:10

YABU because you don't understand the logic

It's not bootcut = mum jean

It's mum jean = a specific kind of bootcut, worn in a particular way

All labradors are dogs, but not all dogs are labradors.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 16/01/2012 22:19

I hate bootcut jeans, come on, they're just renamed flares and as a very reluctant child of the 70s you will not get me to wear flares again (or jumbo cords Anyway, as a size 18 I do not want hourglass shaped legs (wide at the top, narrow at the knees, wide again at the bottom) I want people to not notice my legs thank you very much. I've settled on straight leg ones as the most comfortable. Baggy/loose ones just add bulk and skinny ones only work if you're perfectly in proportion (not necessarily skinny, just well shaped)

snowmaiden · 16/01/2012 22:32

Mumsy=any fashion that was trendy 10 years ago.

10 years ago bootcut were the ONLY jeans to be seen in and nobody would have dared wear 'drainpipe' jeans as they were once called.

You become instantly mumsy the minute you stop changing the way you dress to keep up with whatever the latest fashion is.

In another 20 years bootcut jeans will either make a revival, or become "grandma jeans", not just mum jeans.

yellowraincoat · 16/01/2012 22:34

Straight legs, please, don't inflict bootcut jeans on yourself. You think you look ok, but you just look like you've come from the 90s.

startail · 16/01/2012 22:34

I have a soft spot for long boots. You need skinny jeans or trigging of some sort to tuck in and show them off.
I'm 44 and a size 16 short with big hips so I'm going to look like dumpy. I might as well stomp about in posh boots and enjoy it

Excellent observation about the 'hourglass' legs, MrsDmitri. It's just not pleasant

jasperJohns · 16/01/2012 22:40

One of the reasons I wear skinnies is to make my feet look big. They are a 3 and I'm 5'7, so my feet can look like stumps.

Mums I know that wear bootuts look like frumpy frumpersons, but then they are guilty of the dreaded, slightly too short with a mum boot, look.

WorraLiberty · 16/01/2012 22:44

5ft 3" and skinny jeans for me

Flares and bootcuts really do look Mumsy I'm afraid

A bit like Gok's been on the loose in the school playground Grin

margoandjerry · 16/01/2012 22:45

I blame Kate Moss for this. I don't like skinny jeans on anyone really and it's a shame that it's become so ubiquitous. Actually I also blame Kate Moss for the hipster jeans fashion which was atrocious on everyone. Even Kate Moss would look better in something else.

I do actually agree with the poster who said that jeans don't suit most women. I'm a size 16ish with a small waist and big hips (oh and short legs) and all jeans look awful on me. They gape when you bend over, go baggy and unfitted and are just generally not flattering.
