to think that those Mnetters who think bootcuts are Mum jeans and we should only wear skinnies are either a size 10 or smaller, and/or 5ft 6 or taller?

Surely people should wear what suit their figure? Skinnies only seem to look flattering on tall and/or slim people if you ask me! Aren't most women pear shapes with bigger hips and thighs and therefore would suit bootcuts much more?

Discuss.

I disagree, wildstrawberry, I think once you put a top over those jeans, the straight cut look much better...

straight cut vs. boootcut on plus size

wildstrawberryplace · 19/01/2012 12:00

Then it comes down to personal taste I suppose. I think her legs look better in the bootlegs (though I think the whole outfit is horrible in both cases - awful shoes etc).

ViviPru · 19/01/2012 12:01

Really? fair dues. I agree its not the best outfit but I think she looks younger/slimmer/less frumpy in the straight leg.

NotnOtter · 19/01/2012 12:14

44 been wearing skinnies a couple of years now as do all my friends whatever their build
Agree with Enormous - its just fashion - boot leg look soo dated

wildstrawberryplace · 19/01/2012 12:16

I kind of know what you mean - those bootcuts are the wrong shape and look odd. But I suppose the thing I notice about her in the straights is that she's somewhat on the larger size (for a model!) whereas it is not the first thing that strikes me in the second photo.

ViviPru · 19/01/2012 12:19

Yeah... I just go back to my original point then that jeans just aren't the most flattering option on 16+. Never see Adele in jeans do we?

wildstrawberryplace · 19/01/2012 12:20

imho the things that look most dated are things were the most exaggerated fashion of their time - big wing collars and massive flares of the 70s, silly epaulettes and ice wash jeans of the 80s, crop tops and buffalo boots of the 90s - so really skinny skinnies are going to look dated very very soon - more middle of the road versions will remain OK, same as subtle bootcuts remain fine now

NotnOtter · 19/01/2012 12:42

I think the plus size model looks better in the skinnies [comfused]

ViviPru · 19/01/2012 12:44

They're straight, not skinny Otter Grin

Ephiny · 19/01/2012 12:47

In the earlier set of pictures, posted by Vivi/strawberry, I though the model looked good in the bootcuts and awful in the straight-leg jeans.

In the second ones though, she looks slightly better in the straight-cut ones.

I guess that shows it depends more on the particular jeans in question - and the person wearing them, and what they wear them with - rather than an absolute 'boot cut is better than straight leg' or vice versa!

ViviPru · 19/01/2012 12:48

Buffalo boots! O I LOVED mine - these are the nearest I can find, but mine were backless with velcro not lace up...

Twas neither bootcut not skinnies back then - just army surplus combats all the way....

ViviPru · 19/01/2012 12:49

Yes, Ephiny I completely agree.

Just send pictures of yourselves to [email protected] and I'll photoshop you beautiful :)

wildstrawberryplace · 19/01/2012 13:55

I had velcro ones too , not backless and they were ankle boots rather than shoes. I thought I looked the bogs bollocks, but christ they look awful now.

"Then it comes down to personal taste I suppose. I think her legs look better in the bootlegs (though I think the whole outfit is horrible in both cases - awful shoes etc)."

I agree. I also don't think that bootcut looks dated at all. Skinnies look good on some people, straights look good on some and bootcut look good on some. It depends entirely on how they are worn, the shape of the person wearing them and what they are wearing with them. I will stick to what suits me and what I find comfortable. I won't be dictated to by the "fashion police". I would far rather look stylish than fashionable. Loads of women still wear bootcut so how can you say it is unfashionable?

A crinoline is unfashionable and you don't see many of them around these days Wink

NotnOtter · 20/01/2012 00:12

i wear skinnies 8 months gone - i am no longer size 10 ,smaller or young Wink

SlinkingOutsideInFrocks · 20/01/2012 00:27

You can't say 'bootcuts look dated'. They can look dated, just like skinnies can look deeply unflattering.

Whichever of those two faux pas you're more prepared to risk making is up to the individual. Wink

wildfig · 20/01/2012 08:32

I wish crinolines would come back in. My thighs would be so grateful. Bustles, at a push.
