aibu to think that mate selling wedding dress so shortly after wedding strange?

My mate married last October in a full-on white wedding. I spoke to her friday and she announced she was now selling dress. It is a beautiful dress - a proper fairytale number. AFAIK, there are no financial difficulties. I worry for my mate as I think this is a bit strange. aibu? Not thread hitting and running, just going out and won't be able to get back to thread for a while.

YABU... It's not strange, it's just that some people are less sentimental than others. What does anyone really do with an old wedding dress? At least if she sells it now it's in good condition and still in fashion.

I must stress that I am no big believer in white weddings. I am NOT criticising my mate, just find it odd and worry there may be problems.

I dont see anything wrong with it. Its not as if you are likely to wear it again, so you may as well sell it if you can.

Is she very tidy? They're a bit of a bugger to store.

Perhaps she wants to get some return on it before it goes out of fashion. You don't have to have money worries to be canny with your money.

So YABU. But I'm not the sentimental type.

I take it she's not planning on wearing it again so why not? What's the point of keeping it for years. It'll just go out of style and she won't get anything for it.
Why are you worried? I'd be worried if she was planning on wearing it every day Miss Haversham style.

YABU, it isn't likely that her DD if she has one, will want to wear it.
Flog it while it's still fashionable I say.

Sensible woman. I got married 11 years ago. Want to know where my dress is? In a wardrobe at my mum's house. Haven't even cleaned it yet.

Really don't turn into an amateur shrink over a dress. If you think your friend's relationship is on the rocks for some tangible reason, fair enough. But spare her the psychoanalysis just because she's being practical

YABU and making some ridulous assumptions on the basis of this. It's not like shes going to be wearing it again. I didn't keep a thing from my wedding because I'm not sentimental and I don't like clutter.

If you're going to sell a wedding dress, you want to do it as soon as possible after the wedding before tastes change and so that it doesn't potentially get damaged in storage.

I know some people who factored the resale value of their dress into what they could afford.

They take up a hell of a lot of room. Mine's in the loft, but I am worried it will be damaged. The only reason I don't flog it is because my mum got rid of hers and then regretted it...

why on earth would it indicate problems? I sold mine within 4 months, that way it was still this seasons dress and I got much more for it. What else are you going to do with it, wear it to your DIL's wedding?!

It paid for me and DH to go on another holiday which was fab.

You sound very odd for even thinking this, I have to say.

i bought my wedding dress from a charity shop it had been made for the daughter of one of the workers in the shop so the charity benefitted from the money, and after the weddng i gave my wedding dress to another charity shop so they benefited from the money it made,

YABU. If she wants to get any money back for it at all (in fact, if she wants any chance of even selling it at any price) she needs to do it while the style is the current season's - the second hand wedding dress market is tough!

I would gladly have sold mine, but was too lazy to arrange it and too tight to pay the cost of cleaning it when I knew it may not even sell.

If you are planning on reselling then you need to do so ASAP in order to get the best price.

I kept mine although not really sure why - it takes up an erormous amount of space although DD (6) is strating to enjoy possibly the most expensive bit of dressing up ever Shock

When is an acceptable time to sell on a wedding dress if 9 months is too short a timeframe?

What use is it now? Sentimental purposes? If she's anything like the rest of the married population, she'll put on a bit of weight and never be able to fit in it again!

When I got married, I wore my sisters wedding dress and then kept it....for YEARS. I didn't want to. I kept asking her what to do with it as I just wanted rid of it (took up too much space and what's the point of keeping it anyway?).

She didn't let me get rid of it until I got divorced.
