i want my dd to wear pretty things in her hair

everything i put in her hair, she pulls out.
her fringe is long and gets in her eyes, can't get it cut as she will not stay still long enough.

i just wants her hair to look nice, instead of it looking like the end of a mop

Im sure your dd looks pretty without things on her hair. Don't be so superficial.

Skinit · 03/04/2011 11:08

HOw old is she? I hve 2 DDs and it wasn't until they were about 4 that they would leave their slides etc in.

AuntiePickleBottom · 03/04/2011 11:10

she is almost 2, i wish she would keep a clip in her hair so it not in her eyes.

I used to get DH to hold mine whilst I cut her fringe.....its the only way. Yours is still a baby. YABU to expect her to wear clips at the moment.

Bogeyface · 03/04/2011 11:11

You just have to wait I'm afraid. If she is too young to want to look pretty then she is too young to wear them. Wait til she hits late 3's and she will be happy to trip down to the Claires with you and buy the place out of pink sparkly hair clips.

Oh and do yourself a favour, DONT cut her fringe if it is a battle. Mine had no fringes until they were old enough to sit still long enough to get it done. And then decided they didnt like them and grew them out anyway!

worraliberty · 03/04/2011 11:11

Just get someone to hold her very still while you cut her fringe. You can't avoid it forever and she'll have to get used to it.

Are hair clips even safe for babies?

hophophippidtyhop · 03/04/2011 11:18

maybe one of those stretchy fabric alice bands would help, they have them in H&M for a couple of pounds, might just get it out her eyes until it's a bit longer.

thes are similar to the ones i buy, which says they are safe.

i will just will have to wait until her fringe grows out

Too young I think........actually mine are 6 and almost 4 and usually look like Courtney Love in the hair dept, I can get them still enough toput nice things in, but then they 'itch' or 'hurt' or 'feel funny' Hmm

My almost 2 yr old boy, on the other hand, will sit still for complicated plaits and ponytails, wear headbands slides and bows..........I give up Grin

TaperJeanGirl · 03/04/2011 12:13

Oh yeah, and def no fringe, they are a pain in the bum, always too long or short or wonky.......

Flisspaps · 03/04/2011 12:16

She's two. Let her be comfortable rather than worrying about doing her up like the Christmas tree Wink She's probably more comfy with her hair in her eyes than a slide stuck to her head.

Besides, she'll look lovely without all sorts of tat decoration in her hair, mop head or not.

walesblackbird · 03/04/2011 12:18

My daughter is 5 and still won't keep anything in her hair. I tried growing it long and having the fringe grow out. She looked a mess.

Now she has a lovely bob which stays more or less neat and tidy, a fringe and no need of any more bobbles, clips or anything else. She's happy and so am I as it was costing me a fortune in bobbles etc.

my daughter is 14 months and has NO hair. I can't wait for her to grow some so I can put pretty things in it. I'd even be happy with a mop haired child (I was one myself). You'd think after more than a year she would have managed some... but no.
The boys tend to object to me putting things in their hair BlushWink

I feel your pain, my DD is two and has wild curly hair, Its getting thick too now, always looks a birds next sticking out in random ways, terrible. Shes now out of the cute baby stage and just looks unkempt now. No help though sorry :)

Bogeyface · 03/04/2011 12:28

After posting on here earlier I did the usual Sunday morning nit combing session. The girls hair (waist length on both, really should get it cut) looked lovely. Smooth and naked and neat.

They have just both walked in from the playroom smothered in face glitter and lip gloss, thank you mother for that Xmas present, and their hair looking like a pair of glam goths who have been dragged through claires accesories backwards.

Stick with unadorned hair, its far prettier!

AnyoneforTurps · 03/04/2011 12:33

Totally agree with dittany. Don't socialise your DD to be your doll.

PinkToeNails · 03/04/2011 12:50

My DD's hair is really wild but she still looks gorgeous. Personally, I think clips can look a bit tacky on young babies. I don't think YABU though if that's what you like. However, it's probably not worth stressing about at this stage if she won't sit still for long.

Blackcoffeeandcigarettes · 03/04/2011 12:53

When I was about that age my nan stuck o bowl on my head and cut my hair without my mum knowing. She went balistic! Maybe an 80's revival bowl cut?!? Start a trend?

DooinMeCleanin · 03/04/2011 12:59

DD2 is almost four and still looks like a mop, not helped by the fact that she hacked half a head of curls off a few months ago and they are growing back in a very wild and weird way Grin. I think it's cute. Give up trying to tame toddler haor, it will drive you mad, just go with it.

Sanesometimes1 · 03/04/2011 13:08

my dd hair was also always a mess at that age tried everything but lke yours she just pulled them out, even starting school was a nightmare, was neat and tidy everyday before she left the house, nice pony tail etc, but by home time was wild child of borneo look lol, you just have to go with it i;m afriad, btw she is 14 now and spends hours and hours on her hair drives me to distraction and I become the wild woman of borneo lol x

vaginiasmonalogue · 03/04/2011 13:16

I used to stick something on my nose and dd would be fascinated to sit still for 5 mins whilst I cut it.

I could never get anything to stay in either, I think little clips and flowers look cute Smile

I bribe dd to sit still while I cut her fringe. She seems to need a fringe because when I clip it back it fights to get out. I don't mind though because it really suits her.
If her hair's poking her in the eye and she won't wear clips I think you need to find a way of getting her to sit still enough for you to cut her fringe and then when she will wear clips when she's older she can grow it out if she wants.
