To hate smokers

I have just spent ten days in hospital with my gorgeous dd2 as she slowly recovered from pneumonia. I met lots of great doctors and nurses they were amazing. But the majority of parents were scum. Children kept being admitted with asthma, tiny children struggling to breathe. One 18 month old was on her third admission. Almost every parent smoked, and so did every person who came to visit these poor kids. Then every few hours they have to leave the kids and go for a fag. They made the ward stink.
Wouldn't you think your baby gasping for air and screaming in terror would be enough to stop you smoking?

YANBU to hate people who still smoke despite the fact that it exacerbates their children's illnesses.

I hope your DD2 is ok and recovering well from her pneumonia.

Can I ask you how you knew the majority of them smoked? Did you frisk them as they came in? Or sniff their clothes? You ABVU.

you are making a massive assumption about these people who yes smoked - and yes their child9ren0 had lung problems - doesn;t follow that they smoke infront of their kids ...

they are stressed 0 their child is in hopsital

a dear friend of mine chains smoked her way through her 6mth olds open heart surgery - she is far from scum

put your judgy pants away now :)

Smokers also dont seem to think that fag butts are litter ...so just drop them as they walk along - hate that too !

Yabu.

I think hating is a bit strong.

You can pity/dislike/disapprove of smokers if you must. But you shouldn't make any assumptions about their smoking habits and hate really is a strong word.

I have never smoked around my son, he has asthma. I also breastfed him for 3 years, he still has asthma. Nobody in our family has asthma, but he still has asthma.

PS, I have a lovely little fag butt collector that I carry around with me and put my rubbish into.

YANBU.

It always makes me laugh when smokers bother to wear perfume/aftershave - why bother? You absolutely stink already. Nice perfume is not going to mask the fact you smell like an ashtray.

Obviously because they smell it all the time, they can delude themselves that they don't stink and forget that other people - who DON'T constantly breathe in smoke - can't smell them either.

And don't get me started on smoking in the street. If there's something that makes someone look more common, I'm not aware of it.

I hate that rubbish they spout, well I went outside for a quick smoke, yet they choose to forget that they breathe out their nasty chemicals into the air everyone is breathing in the house for TWO hours after their ciggie in the garden!

YABU to say you hate smokers. Smoking doesn't make someone a bad person.

YANBU to be upset if you know the children you refer to have an illness caused by living in a smokey environment.

My DD was born at 28 weeks and nearly died twice in the first 4 months of her life. On the way into see her one day, there was a (very) pregnant lady smoking just ouside the door way. I was really upset. I felt totally robbed that I hadn't smoked and my DD was fighting for her life and she was puffing away with a baby inside her, without a care in the world.

I hope your DD is ok now.

How do you know if they all smoke and if they smoke round their children OP?

You sound very judgemental. Do you see people who constantly use central heating as scum when their kids have asthma?
