Ask for help. Better than crashing.

VivaLeBeaver · 21/12/2010 17:12

Go and knock on someone's door and ask for help or you will be there all night.

LeChatRouge · 21/12/2010 17:13

Can you go forward and get up onto the pavement a bit? Then reverse off from there?

Go and knock on a door. I didn't realise that people were stuck outside my house the other week until they'd been there about 20 mins and I probably closed the curtains too. If people know that you're a woman on your own with children, I'm sure they will help.

VivaLeBeaver · 21/12/2010 17:14

Hubby says handbreak on, in reverse, full lock on steering wheel and loads of revs. Totally floor it.

He says you'll do a hald donought and the back of the car will stay still and the front will move sideways away from the kerb. Hmm

TheMonster · 21/12/2010 17:15

Maybe the people in the houses aren't impressed at seeing someone driving whilst using their phone.

VivaLeBeaver · 21/12/2010 17:15

half donought

silverfrog · 21/12/2010 17:17

BodyofEeyore - sitting in a car at the kerb is not exactly the same as gunning down the motorway Hmm

OP, sorry you're stuck. I would second asking for help. Not many people are going to leave you stuck with small children in the car

discobeaver · 21/12/2010 17:17

Please do the doughnut! VivaleBeaver I love it!

JaneS · 21/12/2010 17:17

Body, she's not driving, that's the point. She's struggling to get her car out, stopping and MNing and still struggling.

I am fairly amused she thought to get on MN, but it's a good idea, surely?

ChristmasTrolleyRage · 21/12/2010 17:18

She's plainly not driving whilst using her phone, 'cos she can't move the damned car!

I'd be willing to guess that the posts here are made with the engine off , in between sobs of frustration!

Really BodyofEeyore, if you can't say anything bloody helpful etc. etc...

CTR - ask for help.

LittleMissHoHoHoFit · 21/12/2010 17:19

You OK there OP? You out yet?

Can you dig out some snow from around the tyres?

Have you got anything you can put under the drive wheels to gain grip?

Go and ask a house if you can borrow a shovel.

discobeaver · 21/12/2010 17:19

Yes, ask for help. Or do the doughnut...

heymammy · 21/12/2010 17:19

if you have car mats try to jam them behind the front wheels to give you some traction

VivaLeBeaver · 21/12/2010 17:21

Yes doughnut, God I thought donought looked wrong but was having a total blank.

FiveFeetTwo · 21/12/2010 17:21

Please go and ask for help.

My dh is a complete snow and ice driving hero and would have you out in a jiffy. Shame you aren't stuck outside his office...

Smile

Maybe I should have added a Grin at the end of my post as it seems my sarcasm was lost.

TheFoosa · 21/12/2010 17:22

knock on someone's door and CRY if necessary

PenelopeTitsDropped · 21/12/2010 17:23

Let the handbrake off; depress the clutch.
Let the car go as far as it wants.

Put the handbrake on. Get out the car and put anything "rough" that you've got under the front wheels, IN THE DIRECTION THAT YOU WANT TO GO. Slip it under the wheels; only as far as you can get it easily; but the majority in the direction that you want to go.

Dig out snow in front of this path; spade or hands.

Stick it in 2nd. Low revs, very little accelerator. Coax the car till it gets a grip; if you hear the wheels spinning. Stop.

silverfrog · 21/12/2010 17:25

agree with FFT - dh would also not hesitate in the slightest to help you out.

please ask for help - you could be free and driving home in no time Smile

First of all, deep breath. Do you have a shovel in the back. In extremis you can use your ice scraper to move the snow from under your car. Make straight lines in the snow so you can see the ground underneath behind your rear tyres. You will then get traction to go backwards. DO NOT PANIC. You will get out of this.

Where are you?
