Post an AIBU from the point of view of a fictional character (from novels/nursery rhymes/plays etc) and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please :)

AIBU to be protective of my DD?

Halloooo!

Depends - is she accident-prone, particularly on items with sharp points?

AIBU to play the piano?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 16/11/2010 13:39

YANBU, the piano is a wonderful instrument - is someone saying you shouldn't? Or is it maybe not yours to play?

...she's not accident prone particularly, I just think the world can be a cruel place, and I want to keep her safe as long as possible...

OP posts:
CJCregg · 16/11/2010 13:55

So it's nothing to do with her sixteenth birthday, then?

No, the piano is mine. It's just that its arrival has caused so much fuss ...

Poledra · 16/11/2010 13:58

CJ, are you Les Dawson? In which case ,YABU to play the piano..... Grin

Poledra · 16/11/2010 13:59

Oh, why didn't my ^^s work there?

CJCregg · 16/11/2010 14:06

I am certainly not Les Dawson! Wot book's 'e in, then?

(But I take your point)

Poledra · 16/11/2010 14:12

Are you Antipodean, CJ? or are have you just moved to the Antipodes?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 16/11/2010 14:19

No it's not her birthday, just that I appreciate our family privacy, and don't want to expose DD to boys - she's very pretty and has led a very sheltered life so far, and I worry about what could happen!

CJ - is it from a mystery benefactor? (If so, YANBU to play, but YAB a bit U to be such a prim little thing).

winnybella · 16/11/2010 14:21

Jane Fairfax?

winnybella · 16/11/2010 14:31

Ah, I think Elephants has already answered that!

AIBU to carry a jug of porter up the stairs all the time?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 16/11/2010 14:44

Um...YANBU as long as you are bringing it to me - but you might get a bit tired if you're doing it all the time?

...Also she was adopted at an early age and I'm a bit worried about how she might act out in her teenage years...

OP posts:
winnybella · 16/11/2010 14:48

It's beer- AIBU to keep someone from trying to burn the house down?

No clue about yours.

Poledra · 16/11/2010 14:54

Aha - winny, are you a nurse? And overly fond of that porter you're waltzing about with?

winnybella · 16/11/2010 14:55

Well, my job isn't the easiest one! Grin

CJCregg · 16/11/2010 14:57

Elephants, do you think she might be secretly batting for the other side? Grin

Yes, I was smug prim Jane Fairfax. You may all take yourselves off to London for a haircut.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 16/11/2010 15:05

What was yours, winny? :)

Ooh that Jane Fairfax, she's just such a ...good girl (or maybe not of course).

...Also her birth parents live nearby and I'd hate for them to have any kind of awkward meeting. Yes I think the current solution is the best one...

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 16/11/2010 15:06

CJ - batting for the other side? I don't think she's got room to bat for any kind of side!

OP posts:
winnybella · 16/11/2010 15:08

Grace Poole from Jane Eyre

winnybella · 16/11/2010 15:13

Arrrgh, Elephants. More clues are needed!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 16/11/2010 15:19

oh yyeeeeeeaaaah I'd forgotten about her! A friend on the family named her DD Grace (surname) Poole recently and we all struggled to avoid any mad laughter jokes. :o

...Why would she ever need to see anyone but me anyway? I don't want her getting her heart broken by some lad trying his luck!

OP posts:
Poledra · 16/11/2010 15:27

Does she get out at all, Elephants, or do you keep the poor little flower locked up in the house?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 16/11/2010 15:36

...Well, she has everything she needs right here! Food, company (well, me)...although she is acting a little restless atm. And she's staring out of the window a lot - but that's normal teenage behaviour right?

OP posts:
winnybella · 16/11/2010 16:03
Confused Am sure it'll be something v.obvious... Come on, one clue more!
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 16/11/2010 16:09

...Oh terrific - bad mother award goes to me. Caught her with a man in her room earlier FFS after all the care I'm taken with her! I've had to do something drastic - just hope it won't drive her away even more (figuratively, not literally, of course)...
