... to want to kill my husband for leaving our passports in a cab the night before we fly to a wedding abroad?

I don't think I have ever been as angry with another human being as I am now. I know it was an accident. But there are accidents and accidents. If you have your passports in a bag you make damn sure they are the ONLY thing you keep your hands on in a taxi and you do not get out without them.

This was the biggest and most glam wedding I had ever been invited to; I don't do many social things and had been looking forward to this for weeks and weeks. I know there are more important things in life but it's such an unneccessary mistake and I am so upset right now.

He feels terrible and i want him to. (can't help it) :(

Was it a black cab? or a mini cab from a company?

minibmw2010 · 01/09/2010 21:27

I assume you've called the cab company (if local)? If not, have you called the company who are in charge of black cabs (for instance in London, its transport for london)?

You poor thing (plus your poor DH).

Tiredmumno1 · 01/09/2010 21:28

Cant you call the cab company and get them back?

emeraldgirl1 · 01/09/2010 21:29

It was a black cab in London. THe Carriage office (in charge of cabs in London) was closed by the time he made the mistake. We can call them in the morning but dont know what they can do and anyway our flight was supposed to be at midday. We have tried the police and they say they will call us if it is handed it at one of 7 central stations. If it is not, I don't know what happens. If we are lucky they will show up at about 9am on Saturday when it is too late to get to the wedding.

Channel your anger into doing everything you can to get them back.

But yanbu, no

Vallhala · 01/09/2010 21:30

Kill away. I don't think any of us will stop you. Wink

I hope you manage to recover the passports PDQ, good luck.

DomesticG0ddess · 01/09/2010 21:30

YANBU, poor you, I hope they turn up. You never know.

emeraldgirl1 · 01/09/2010 21:31

We have pretty much done everything we can now. Maybe we can make another call in the morning to the carriage office and ask if there is anything they can do. But now it is a case of praying for a miracle.

Thanks so much everyone!! Cheered me up a teeny bit to know that I'm not (totally) a psycho bitch!

YANBU - you must be gutted

expatinscotland · 01/09/2010 21:33

why did he have both your passports on his person? we leave ours locked up until we're walking out the door to go to the airport.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 01/09/2010 21:33

When is the wedding, can you get to the londond passport office tomorrow morniand and get new ones, phone up ariline explainf what is going on and bump your flight? My brother and SIL did this when one of their sons went missing.

duchesse · 01/09/2010 21:33

No jury would convict.

emeraldgirl1 · 01/09/2010 21:33

Yes. Gutted is exactly right. I had planned my outfit, got a wax, a pedicure, my hair done... and as I was paying at the hairdressers the text came through saying what had happened

nancydrewrocked · 01/09/2010 21:34

Not in th slightest bit unreasonable.

Stay positive - they are the sort of things that will be handed in as they are of very little use to the majority of people.

Chances are they will have been handed in tonight you can call the carriage office tomorrow and travel wherever necessary to collect.

KatyMac · 01/09/2010 21:34

Contact the london Radio stations they might put out a call for you

Black Cabs often have the radio on

Also go down to the taxi rank at the airport/train station and ask each driver to ask his mates - like a round robin

MollysChambers · 01/09/2010 21:34

Oh.my.fucking.god.... I would be livid.

But.....he didn't mean to do it did he?(stupid, stupid man...) So not really any point in having a big row is there?

YANBU though. Sad

fannybaws · 01/09/2010 21:34

Cant you call the cab company and ask them to put a call out to all cars specifying the journey you took and the type of bag? Mention an award????
Btw YANBU

emeraldgirl1 · 01/09/2010 21:34

Can't get 24 hour service for a lost or stolen passport... I've checked!

Portofino · 01/09/2010 21:34

You must be hopping mad! What was he doing with them in a taxi in the first place?

fannybaws · 01/09/2010 21:34

I mean reward

duchesse · 01/09/2010 21:36

Are you sure he's not having you on? (equally deserving of being killed in the circumstance).

NoahAndTheWhale · 01/09/2010 21:36

I would be completely livid. And then would drift into low level despondency I think.

Tiredmumno1 · 01/09/2010 21:36

Good idea katy, about the radio stations

nomedoit · 01/09/2010 21:39

Were the tickets with the passports? Was their any identifying contact info in the passports (there is space for an emergency contact no somewhere I think). Cabbies are pretty good and will try to get it back to you. You can also call Computer Cab and Radio Taxi's and ask them to announce it over their radio system to their drivers.
