... to want to kill my husband for leaving our passports in a cab the night before we fly to a wedding abroad?

I don't think I have ever been as angry with another human being as I am now. I know it was an accident. But there are accidents and accidents. If you have your passports in a bag you make damn sure they are the ONLY thing you keep your hands on in a taxi and you do not get out without them.

This was the biggest and most glam wedding I had ever been invited to; I don't do many social things and had been looking forward to this for weeks and weeks. I know there are more important things in life but it's such an unneccessary mistake and I am so upset right now.

He feels terrible and i want him to. (can't help it) :(

I'd be gutted and be upset but wouldn't be too hard on him tbh. I have done stupid things before and been upset about it, and been really grateful my dh didn't loose it with me, but was reassuring and philosphical about it.

To be fair not as grand as loosing the passports the day before something as exciting sounding as what you have planned, but still.

Try to imagine if you had been the one to loose them. How would you want your dh to react to you?

Fingers crossed you get them back. Contacting the radio stations sounds like a brilliant idea, as is the bush telegraph.

Do let us know.

Good luck

BrandyAlexander · 01/09/2010 21:41

Lordy! DH wouldn't survive the night if he did this. Grin There's a possibility that the cabbie might call the people listed on your next of kin page in your passport so warn them so they can act quickly if they get a call.

QOD · 01/09/2010 21:42

at least it's 2 passports and not a whole car well done mr lequeen

Seriously, you must be more proactive with the cab co - stop one in the street? go to their central office? do they not have radios (you know to talk to each other)?

PaulineCampbellJones · 01/09/2010 21:42

Did the taxi drop your DH off at home by any chance. Just a thought that a cabbie may realise and drop them off when they are finished.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 01/09/2010 21:44

I second getting in touch with the cab companies (maybe getting in touch via another cabby, perhaps) and asking them to put a call out for the cab where they were left.

I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you that they turn up in time for your flight tomorrow. Only this week another mumsnetter lost a treasured bracelet in the sea, and was encouraged by other mumsnetters to go back and look at low tide the next day, which she and her friend did, and found the bracelet almost at once, so miracles do happen.

That said, I think I would be just as cross as you - it's an awful feeling in the pit of your stomach when something like this happens.

squeaver · 01/09/2010 21:45

Yy to the cab companies..

GetThePartyStarted · 01/09/2010 21:46

Emeraldgirl1 - I know they say that you can't get same day service, but I think that it's more they can't guarantee it. My DH lost his passport just before we went to NY (ironically a week after we went to the bloody passport pffice to get me a same day passport!) and he did get his the same day.

Worth a try at least!

AnneTwacky · 01/09/2010 21:51

I've had my passport replaced sameday but that was at their office in Liverpool and I had to pay extra for it.

In the meantime may someone have handed them in at a police station. If they're still open it's worth giving your local one a call on the off chance.

Lyn3 · 01/09/2010 21:51

Hi - if you are going to phone Radio stations in london to get them to do an appeal over the air - then definitely make sure you try 'Talk' Radio station. My Dad's been a London Black Cab driver for many, many years and that is the radio station he and his mates have on in the front of the cab all the time. If you get the message out to some Black Cabbies, even if it's not the right one - they all tend to meet in particular Cafe's for meals together in the evenings and mornings, so they would be able to get the message out to the others... then you may be able to get them back tonight. The problem is, if the driver finds them, he is bound to hand them in but unless he realises the urgency, he may leave it to tomorrow, or even drop them into the Passport office next time he's in the area - neither of which will help you!! Hope you get them back!!

Summerbird73 · 01/09/2010 21:53

i agree with a prev poster - stop a cab in the street - get them to radio all other cabs!

emeraldgirl1 · 01/09/2010 23:02

Thanks so much everyone for all positive advice and words of support!!

Lyn3, I've looked up 'talk' radio, do you mean talk sport? that's the only one i can find called anything like that...

Good idea to try the round robin effect, we will do that asap. THe issue with radios is that apparently (i can't believe this) there is no central radio system like in NYC. We have called Radio taxis and Computer cabs and they have put out an alert to all their black cabs, but it is v likely that it was not one of those two firms.

Re the contact info in passports, how stupid are we that we have never written it in??! My hubbie did have a business card in the bag too so minute chance the driver may drop it in to the office tomorrow - but too late for our flight I am sure.

I've called radio stations but LBC say they won't help; emailed BBC London and Radio 2 (Chris Evans show tomorrow morning) but have little hope there either.

Now I don't know what to do - do I bother packing, even though there is a 0.5 % chance of getting on the plane? Getting the suitcase out with so little chance of going is making me so miserable...

No YANBU - how completely careless of him!

I really hope you get them back in time. Fingers crossed

nameymcnamechange · 01/09/2010 23:11

Thats a bit crap of LBC to say they won't help Hmm.

emeraldgirl1 · 01/09/2010 23:16

Yes i thought so too! won't be listening to them again!

OP posts:
Tiredmumno1 · 01/09/2010 23:23

Did you do magic, heart and capital fm.

just in case one of them are listening

Rockbird · 01/09/2010 23:26

I can't believe LBC won't help. All cabbies listen to LBC. Clive Bull (the cabbies' fave) is on holiday at the moment but Anthony Davies is standing in and he's a good egg. Ring the presenter directly (assuming you haven't) 0845 60 60 973. They love things like this.

Sorry, I assumed you weren't familiar with the station so apologies if I was stating the bleeding obvious Blush

BecauseImWorthIt · 01/09/2010 23:29

daftpunk's DH is a black cab driver - can you CAT her/get MNHQ to contact her, to see if she can get a message via her DH to the other drivers?

Gay40 · 01/09/2010 23:32

I'm really really hoping the power of MN and willpower in general gets these to you.

Is it impossible to find the taxi company? Where did you DH get the taxi from? (station, home to wherever - not asking which area!)

I would be fuming, absolutely fuming!

zazen · 01/09/2010 23:39

OMG
Did you Dh get a receipt from the taxi?

the reg plate number should be on it.
Bring it round to the police and they'll be able to trace the taxi.

Hope you are OK. I don't think my Dh would be safe if this happened!!!

(KM, I think that accidents happen for a reason too.....)

MisSalLaneous · 01/09/2010 23:49

How horrible! Really hope you find it in time, OP.

KickArseQueen · 02/09/2010 00:00

Hiya, I've started a new thread to get daftpunk over here (hopefully!!) its here If any of you can keep it bumped too it would help her to have a chance of seeing it :)
