... to want to kill my husband for leaving our passports in a cab the night before we fly to a wedding abroad?

I don't think I have ever been as angry with another human being as I am now. I know it was an accident. But there are accidents and accidents. If you have your passports in a bag you make damn sure they are the ONLY thing you keep your hands on in a taxi and you do not get out without them.

This was the biggest and most glam wedding I had ever been invited to; I don't do many social things and had been looking forward to this for weeks and weeks. I know there are more important things in life but it's such an unneccessary mistake and I am so upset right now.

He feels terrible and i want him to. (can't help it) :(

I hope it goes well and you get them!

I lost my husband's passport the night before we were due to fly home from holiday - I think it was stolen from my bag but to be honest maybe I lost it - I just don't know. Would have cost us a lot of money for him to stay longer while sorting it out with embassy etc (though presumably our insurance would have covered it - and your insurance should cover it too for flights and accomodation costs etc) though in the end the airline let us fly back anyway. It was a genuine accident though and the way he reacted - calm, no blame, no shouting, concern I was okay, has made me love him even more.

Hope you manage to get there anyway.

DH to be We left ours (together with honeymoon plane tickets and itinerary, and very expensive digital camera) in a rucksack at the Services on the M6 Toll road, the day before our wedding.

We only realised later that evening, once we got up to Cumbria (where we were getting married the next day). DH turned white, and promptly tried to blame his brother (our best man) for "wandering around" and "distracting him" Grin. I and my parents made great efforts to remain studiously calm.

We phoned the services after an interminable search for the phone number, and thank God they had the rucksack there with everything in it.

Even better, our good friend the priest who was marrying us was also on the way up the M6 from London - we called him to ask if he could turn round and go back to the toll road and pick up the bag, and, what do you know he was taking a break and having a coffee in the very services in question!

My faith in God has been much stronger since that day!

amidaiwish · 02/09/2010 12:23

what a story Bumpsadaisie!
hoping the silence means you're making progress emerald

TheNextMrsDepp · 02/09/2010 12:24

Ooo, dying to know if you made it, Emerald. What a stress-fest.

Glitzy · 02/09/2010 12:29

Good luck

NoSleepTillWeaning · 02/09/2010 12:39

Who are you flying with?? Have you asked the airline if you need passports? Greece is in the EU so you may be ok with another form of ID like a driving license?

CHOOGIRL · 02/09/2010 12:48

Good luck Emerald. Nosleep.. the UK is not part of the Schengen agreement so you do need a passport I'm afraid.

VerityBrulee · 02/09/2010 12:49

Good luck, fingers and toes crossed for you.

MrsMeow · 02/09/2010 12:57

Hope you get it sorted, Emerald!

AgentZigzag · 02/09/2010 13:01

More crossed fingers for you emerald.

Hope the silence isn't because she's down the nick for murdering daft DH Grin

Katisha · 02/09/2010 13:21

SHe said she was off to the passport office earlier, which is where she'll be spending the entire day I imagine.

AuntieMaggie · 02/09/2010 13:29

fingers crossed for you x

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 02/09/2010 13:31

Yes, silence is good. If the passport office had told her to sod off then she'd be back on MN telling us about it, so not hearing anything means she's likely to still be there and in with a chance of new passports.

AngryPixie · 02/09/2010 13:42

Keeping everything crossed too x

hifi · 02/09/2010 13:44

good luck

emeraldgirl1 · 02/09/2010 13:52

GOOD - no make that GREAT NEWS!!!

I am jumping for joy here - had to do a LOT of sweet-talking but passports are being replaced, will have them in 4 hours so we can get on a very late flight and will be there in time for the wedding!!!

I cannot thank everyone enough for all words of support and advice. Totally overwhelmed by the kindness of almost-strangers. Makes you think the world is a genuinely good place after all. :)

I hope good vibes go out to all of you in your lives because you are all amazing, thoughtful people and deserve it. With my limited reserves of energy I am sending out thanks into the ether to you all.

Love
