... to want to kill my husband for leaving our passports in a cab the night before we fly to a wedding abroad?

I don't think I have ever been as angry with another human being as I am now. I know it was an accident. But there are accidents and accidents. If you have your passports in a bag you make damn sure they are the ONLY thing you keep your hands on in a taxi and you do not get out without them.

This was the biggest and most glam wedding I had ever been invited to; I don't do many social things and had been looking forward to this for weeks and weeks. I know there are more important things in life but it's such an unneccessary mistake and I am so upset right now.

He feels terrible and i want him to. (can't help it) :(

franklampoon · 02/09/2010 00:44

what is the very latest you can recover the passports in order to still get to the wedding?

emeraldgirl1 · 02/09/2010 01:22

Very latest would be Friday afternoon... would cost a lot to change our flight but it would be worth it.

savoycabbage · 02/09/2010 04:42

Bump. Hope you get to the wedding.

Rhinestone · 02/09/2010 04:48

Are you on Facebook?

Maybe start a new group called something like 'PLEASE FIND MY PASSPORT LOST IN CAB IN LONDON [INSERT DATE]' etc.

And phone the news desks of the Sun / Daily Mirror, they love things like this.

Good luck, really hope you find them.

sunnydelight · 02/09/2010 04:53

Where are you going Emeraldgirl? - sorry if this is stupid but is there any way you can travel without passports? The Emerald bit made me vaguely hope that you are only going to Ireland and you don't actually need a passport to travel (though scumair insist on one). It also used to be possible to travel to France without one if you had photo ID but we're talking a long time back - maybe try the Foreign Office for advice first thing tomorrow? Fingers crossed for you.

bump

Good luck finding it, can't add any further ideas - except that the papers may well help - esp if it hppens to be a slow news day give it a try...

Hope you get sorted, I give all the papers to dp precisely because it would be me who'd lost them...hope he's helping do the searching...the only other thing you can be doing is spending some time thinking up as suitable pennance for him should the passport not turn up. Got to be worth at least a day at a spa?

LIZS · 02/09/2010 07:10

Good luck . fwiw dh left my and dc passports, renewal applications, birth certs etc on a train - got a call about a week later that they'd turned up at Brighton lost property :). Contact the passport office in case they get sent back there.

hmc · 02/09/2010 07:25

Did they arrive in the early hours? - what's the latest?

emeraldgirl1 · 02/09/2010 07:53

Hi everyone following this chapter of disasters!! No - nothing so far. I've tried all the police stations first thing and nothing has turned up overnight. My DH is going into the office as his office details were in the bag and we're desperately hoping the driver had the wit to make that his first stop, or at least call his office phone... That's our best hope at the moment, I think.

sunnydelight - it's Greece, unfortunately, so no way of getting there without a passport!

Facebook page might work, I don't have an account but maybe I could get a friend to do it. Newspapers also a very good last resort! Thanks for the suggestion!

I'd have been on my way to the airport by now... :(

you can get a same day replacement for a lost passport - they won't guarantee it - book the earliest appointment you can & prepare to be there all day. My sister did it last year - the passport help lines say it can't be done, but if you speak to someone real at the passport office you have more hope of getting appointment.

emeraldgirl1 · 02/09/2010 08:07

phlebas

thank you!!!! i am trying this now... on hold

Piccalilli2 · 02/09/2010 08:12

I got my replacement passport for mine that was stolen back in 3 days just using check and send so they can't be that busy at the moment (this was a couple of weeks ago).

Good luck

Psammead · 02/09/2010 08:27

Let us know - following this eager for some good news.

amidaiwish · 02/09/2010 08:32

oh no i was just reading the whole thread hoping/expecting a happy ending...

fingers crossed!

don't be too hard on your dh, i would be LIVID but i am sure he is not making out it isn't a big deal. milk it later instead!

emeraldgirl1 · 02/09/2010 08:36

OK - I have phoned the passport office, got a central control person but cried on the phone to them (wasn't put on - I suddenly couldn't help it...) and she said the official line is that they wont do this but that maybe sometimes some people persuade the officials otherwise when they get there. I can't tell if this was a hint - nudge nudge, wink wink, i can't confirm or deny etc... - or if she was just being totally upfront and saying it might occasionally happen. Either way I have nothing to lose! I am off to the Victoria office now, DH is picking up the application forms at the post office and 'all' we need is the countersig from a professional reliable person (we can ask a lawyer friend I think) and then a LOT of luck. I am prepared to cry/bride/offer sexual favours. Wish me luck everyone - your good wishes have honestly made this whole thing better!!

Plumm · 02/09/2010 08:38

Good luck Emerald - maybe you'll find an MNer working there who'll be able to help!

Gay40 · 02/09/2010 08:39

I am fully hoping and expecting to get home from work today and read that you are in Greece - fingers crossed everyone today x
