... to want to kill my husband for leaving our passports in a cab the night before we fly to a wedding abroad?

I don't think I have ever been as angry with another human being as I am now. I know it was an accident. But there are accidents and accidents. If you have your passports in a bag you make damn sure they are the ONLY thing you keep your hands on in a taxi and you do not get out without them.

This was the biggest and most glam wedding I had ever been invited to; I don't do many social things and had been looking forward to this for weeks and weeks. I know there are more important things in life but it's such an unneccessary mistake and I am so upset right now.

He feels terrible and i want him to. (can't help it) :(

Good luck :)

We had to get a passport from the Newport office a few months ago for DD2, we did the week long service. You get an appt and have turn to turn up at a specific time slot etc however there were quite a few people just turning up at the security entrance part saying that they had been told to come straight there by someone on the passport helpline. I think one lady had a funeral to attend and another guy was supposed to be going on holiday the next day (I am a nosey parker!) If it was me I'd definitely chance it and just turn up, they even have passport photo booths there for instant photos. Hope it all works out for you x

Hope it all works out.

My dd lost her passport and it was replaced the next day at the office in London- on the phone they said we would have to wait but in reality it was done in a few hours - cost £160 or thereabouts however. Good luck

loopyloops · 02/09/2010 08:58

Keeping my fingers crossed for you, do let us know :)

hi emerald my dh is a black cabbie - he always goes out of his way to return stuff though if it was a late night job then your driver is probably in bed like my dh is now.

where did the driver drop your dh?

official line is that the driver leaves valuables at nearest police station.

will wake dh and see if he has any bright ideas.

Raejj · 02/09/2010 09:09

Good luck emerald! Pleased you're on your way to getting a new passport. My husband would in most likelihood stayed well away from me because I would have been furious. That said it's the kind of dumb-ass thing I can imagine him doing so under no circumstances would I have ever let him be in charge of them:)

Was going to suggest a FB page - but see that Rhinestone has already suggested, definitely worth a try! Good luck!

LadyBiscuit · 02/09/2010 09:14

Good luck! I was reading this last night and had no good ideas but was so sad at you not knowing whether to pack.

Please come back and update

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 02/09/2010 09:15

My fingers are so firmly crossed for emeraldgirl that it's hard to type. I so hope we come back to this thread later today to find that the passport office came up trumps and she's on her way to the airport.

girlsyearapart · 02/09/2010 09:18

ok just asked dh and he said you need to contact transport for london property and fwiw in the cab he listens to talksport, magic or absolute.

unlike mini cabs black cabs dont have radios to contact each other or a central office so that wouldn't be an option.

he also said he would def return them- he has driven across london to return a handbag before (woman so drunk she hadnt even realised it was gone) and knocked on every door in a street to return a purse so hopefully yours was a decent bloke

onadietcokebreak · 02/09/2010 09:27

Oh god how awful......

If OP does turn up at passport office would she need someone to countersign her application or not? I would go and risk it.

carocaro · 02/09/2010 09:40

Are you the same person who put out a plea on BBC Radio 5 Live last night?
