yes obviously.

Which will wipe most of us out with the bombs they have now.

Kiss your ass goodbye if a WW3 starts.

No - obvious if you read the actual North Atlantic Treaty

Article 5 has wriggle room written into it..it allows NATO member states to take measure they consider necessary in response to an attack on a member state.

It doesn't automatically demand WW3.

LibbyL92 · 15/11/2022 19:55

Maybe the wrong place to ask this. So I really do apologise in advance.

in due to travel to Poland for Christmas… would you now avoid travel to Poland?

I will of course keep an eye on things.

Mañanarama · 15/11/2022 19:57

I just knew the Daily Mail would pounce on this and induce panic in those who struggle with critical thinking.

Might as well turn the thermostat up then.

How do you know it wasn’t an accident.

It’s all speculation but looks more like a couple of rouge missiles rather then a deliberate attack.

Russia would have apologised immediately and made it clear this was a stray missile. This has not happened to date.

Why would Russia be aiming for targets so close to the border in the first place, knowing the potential outcome? Russia may have a rag tag army that is depleting by the day, but they are not that incompetent and stupid. They knew what they were doing.

The timing is too much of a coincidence. I don't believe in coincidences of this nature. Russia is humiliated on the world stage and suddenly Poland is bombed.

There is no way this would be Ukraine, they have by far the most to lose if Nato get involved and this escalates even further.

Yes great minds will play it down, for sure they will say it was an accident - and will collude with Russia, but that doesn't make it any less dangerous. An escalation is an escalation even if we pretend it is not, and decide to look the other way and hope it doesn't happen again. Which it will.

We are in the end game officially. The most dangerous stage of any war.

Are you joking?
At least wait to find out what actually happened, maybe.

vera99 · 15/11/2022 19:59

If it was Russia and a pp says it may have been a stray Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile gone astray then you can bet Putin is having an oh fuck moment and screaming down the phone at some hapless commander. He is losing the war at the moment and the last thing he wants to do is stir up NATO's hornet nest.

The Russian apology when it comes if needs be will framed around a regrettable mistake in taking action against the "Ukrainian aggressor" along with a heavy dose of whataboutism and they will steer well clear of targets bordering NATO states moving forward.

Government travel pages cover issues around the border with Ukraine.

Where in Poland will you be?

The advice will get reviewed in light of this incident. www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/poland

This is my honest straight up answer.

I hope you have a lovely holiday!

vera99 · 15/11/2022 19:38

It was obviously an "accident" I imagine Russia will apologise and things will go back to what they were. NATO is in effect US policy and they will be looking to crank this down. If NATO was to retaliate militarily then yes I would indeed be very worried but I think the likelihood of that to be minimal. The last thing Europe of the US wants is an expansion of the war in Ukraine.

Not apologising yet. Denying it the wankers

Hancox432 · 15/11/2022 20:00

theworldhas · 15/11/2022 19:38

Hopefully none hurt, but a misguided missile doesn’t mean anything in the grand scheme. Nobody can afford further escalation.

A no fly zone would mean NATO aircraft could intercept missiles that go into the No fly area. Regardless of where they are launched from.

MissConductUS · 15/11/2022 20:01

Lovemusic33 · 15/11/2022 19:19

I don’t think the missile was meant to hit Poland? It was right on the border.

I don’t think NATO will step in even though they are supposed too.

It is worrying 😬

Poland would have to request NATO intervention by invoking Article 5. NATO can't arbitrarily step in.

vera99 · 15/11/2022 20:01

Polish National Security Cabinet is meeting tonight - the betting is that they will invoke NATO's Article 4 (not 5), probable outcome is more NATO air defence assets to Poland, Romania and the Baltic States. The very furthest it might go would be (to the delight of Ukraine) a 'forward air defence zone' over western Ukraine where any missile could be shot down by NATO.
That's at the much less likely end of possibilities, but Ukraine would be very happy with it, as would Poland.

Thank you will keep an eye!

I'm travelling around
Warsaw, Kielce, and Krakow and then over to Poznan.

Untitledsquatboulder · 15/11/2022 19:45

Well, unless you're Polish. Hmm

Two missiles at the same time???

Two Poles were killed.

Nato either acts and stands up to Russia or Putin sees weakness - that doesn't mean war but e.g more missiles troops planes into Poland & more anti air missiles to Ukraine.

Doing nothing at all, brings war closer.

the 20thC teaches us that.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 15/11/2022 20:02

Would they? I think it much more likely that they formulating a response and are going to bust a gut to try and blame it on Ukraine. Correct me if I'm wrong but I haven't seen Russia apologising for anything they've done since February, and God knows there's enough to apologise for.

It's far more likely to be Western propaganda to justify intervention by NATO. It will mean NATO war though.

No it isn't.

More likely art 4.

Isthisabitweird · 15/11/2022 20:03

People saying we are in the end game now. Can you please clarify what this means?

I have a child who I have to literally peel off the ceiling with anxiety so would be good to know how to answer with some sensible answers when she gets wind of this. Which she will because I’ve barely got her out the house for 10 months.

I don’t think it is a bad question @LibbyL92 or that you are being ridiculous to wonder!

We are due to travel to Krakow in 10 days. One of my young DC suffers from quite severe anxiety and previously questioned me about it being safe because of Russia. I am now hoping she doesn’t see the news! And wondering what will happen next

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 15/11/2022 20:03

PaidthepiperTuneismine · 15/11/2022 19:20

This is now Western (NATO) justification to the masses of idiots to invade Russia. I can't say that I disagree. I would have liked to have seen him assassinated 'accidently' about 9 months ago.

By who? No one can get near!
