My guess is that Russia will deny responsibility and try to blame Ukraine, NATO will not retaliate and the Russian soldier responsible will be sent on a one way trip to Siberia.

I certainly hope that’s what’s going to happen, anyway…

Agree. NATO getting involved would cause WW3

Anything which would have involved him invading a NATO country would not have resulted in 10 months of war.

Ukraine is not in NATO.

I think Ukraine not in NATO was established sometime ago.

You ve made several arguments as to why we should not be involved in a central European war.......

BUT they also apply equally to Russia attacking Poland or the Baltic states or perhaps Finland?

Finland aside, why should we get involved in a war in a far away land, that you know nothing about, just because they are in NATO ?

Why, for you, would that make a difference?

It's so funny how people accuse people of being bots on threads like this - it's a new version of troll hunting when people speak reality.

Statement from Biden saying it's unlikely to have been fired from Russia

"We're now hearing from US President Joe Biden, who says it is "unlikely" that the missile responsible for killing two people in Poland was fired from Russia.

He says there is "preliminary information that contests" whether the incident in Poland was due to a missile fired from Russia.

"I don't want to say that until we completely investigate, but it's unlikely in the minds of the trajectory that it was fired from Russia, but we'll see."

Biden says that world leaders will determine the next steps after finding out what happened - following investigations taking place in Poland."

It's not what people are saying. It's the tone that they're using.

ganachee · 16/11/2022 17:28

Regarding the comment that US has probably less reason to support Ukraine (I support our U.K. govt providing weapons to Ukraine) than Europe, I have seen some argue that Ukraine defeating the terrorist Russian state is in all the West’s interests as China looking on will continue to not invade Taiwan and sabre rattle if they see Russia defeated.

workiskillingme · 16/11/2022 18:33

@PaidthepiperTuneismine you've prob been banned by now but to respond to your post 'I don't give a fuck about the smiths up the road fighting' you would give a shit if the Smiths started fighting you and wanted to take over your home . And you'd want someone to step in and stop that. That is what a civilised society is and why war however gruesome it is is sometimes sadly the only option. It's not something anyone ever wants but are you really saying it's absolutely fine to let people threaten peoples liberties and freedom because we are scared they will start threatening to bomb us all? Ukrainian Syrian Afghan children are all like our children you know. Why should they be killed in their homes/ schools? Parents are sending their kids to school over there not knowing if they will be struck and killed. Something that would be a horrifying though for any parents in the uk. Why is it less fucking abhorrent because it's across the sea?

Venetiaparties · 16/11/2022 18:39

Wow. What happened to paid ? She suddenly switched. Weird.

Booklover3 · 16/11/2022 18:44

I know it was bizarre. I didn’t say anything because I couldn’t follow the argument.

Booklover3 · 16/11/2022 18:45

I do hope you are okay @RedToothBrush. I might not always agree 100% with what you say but I honestly didn’t understand that venom at all.

Venetiaparties · 16/11/2022 18:55

Still no statement from Ukraine.

The radio silence is telling the world a lot more than anything Nato had to say today. The speculation that it was probably this and that - the statement didn't even stand up to simple questioning.

The only movement appears to be this:

"Ukraine is requesting “immediate access” to the site of the explosion in Poland and says it is ready to provide “evidence” that Russia was responsible.
Kyiv claims it has evidence of a “Russian trace” to the explosion of a village in Poland without giving further details."

www.aljazeera.com/news/liveblog/2022/11/16/live-poland-blast-attempt-to-spark-nato-russia-clash-moscow

Ukraine are very clearly not accepting responsibility for this, and have made no attempt to apologise to Poland for the loss of life.
