Latvia has a huge contribution in non financial terms too to NATO.

Go search (I’m on phone and just found it!) but can’t be bothered to go back.

Nukes and WW3 being the end were mentioned quite early on.

Guess who’s first post proclaimed “this is no accident”?

Mine possibly.

Just fed up of almost my entire life the UK being involved in military conflicts as Americas lap dog. Wasting billions. We get nothing back from the US for going along with their warmongering. We should be supporting in a much more limited way like most of Europe and Ukraines immediate neighbours

Oh lapdog, another Russian comment, yay lucky us!

Zuno · 16/11/2022 15:15

Can’t remember now but the two of you came out with strong assertions very early on!

So what's your take on Putin's warmongering?

And what's your beef with Zelensky? After the shit that the barabarians threw at his country yesterday, I'm not blaming him for a comment

Not a single penny of our taxes should be spent on Zelenskiy after his attempts to trigger ww3. Let America and Ukraines neighbours support them. No need for us to be involved

I'm very happy to have UK taxes helping Ukraine.

Did you see the report on Ch4 from Kherson? on the people living near a Russian torture station.. electrocutions, skinning and the screams could not be drowned out from those near by.
Then there are the mass graves, the rapes, bombing of civilians.

Zelenskyy needs more, far more Western help, it is understandable he will use everything to try and ensure this.

We are still part of Europe and hence far more invested in this war than the USA is, who quite frankly could easily just wash their hands of it & focus on China/Taiwan.

I'm loathe to say that I agree with you there.

Venetiaparties · 16/11/2022 15:19

The one element we can not forget is the intense pressure Putin must now be under within his inner circle. This whole debacle is a huge fuck off from start to finish. He has no exit plan. Perhaps he will be the exit plan. Who knows, but surely someone with a braincell must be thinking about it in Moscow.

Or we carry on like this, because quite frankly we have all adjusted to his hysterical threats and a colder house, and are more than ready to keep going.
I am of the view, that Ukraine must prevail whatever the cost, and has every chance of doing so now, which was unthinkable 9 months ago.

Zelensky is a hero, Ukraine has become a beacon of hope for the world. Russia is now a nasty fetid little backwater with the same status as North Korea.

PaidthepiperTuneismine · 16/11/2022 15:21

Venetiaparties · 16/11/2022 14:52

Every now and then we see this! A post will pop in from nowhere not relating to the thread telling us not to waste money on the Ukrainian leader.

The obsession with Zelensky is a Russian one. They hold him accountable for their failure because he is full of charisma and has the true ability to lead from the front, he is loved and admired all over the world. And the Russians have to put up with a mentally incapacitated elderly leader whom has failing health and judgement and seems hell bent on finishing Russia off for good.

We are pouring money to save Ukraine from the savages and monsters of Russia, that torture the innocent, and rape grannies and are entirely without a single bone of decency.

This country will always stand by Ukraine.

'Standing by' and 'standing by' have two different definitions if you look them up.

  1. I stand by while the troups invade. (translation - I'm not going to intervene)
  2. I stand by Ukraine. (translation - I'm standing shoulder to shoulder with you against our common enemy).
Venetiaparties · 16/11/2022 15:23

I would choose option 2. Every single time.

Ukraine is not a NATO member. They have not been accepted by NATO and they have turned their backs on 'mother' Russia.

This is not our war to fight. Why are we bloody paying in terms of loss of jobs, recession, poverty, starvation, hunger in an attempt to defend a country who we know absolutely FUCKING NOTHING ABOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PaidthepiperTuneismine · 16/11/2022 15:29

The most I knew about Ukraine prior to this war was from the film War Dogs (film based on true life).
I've heard of Chicken Kiev. Prior to January, I would have had difficulty pointing Ukraine out on a map of Europe.

You have just reminded me it is time for me to make another donation to Rebuild Foundation (Ukraine) and Bellingcat. Doing positive things to root out Russian scum activity.

Thank you.

No, that YOU know nothing about... which just demonstrates your ignorance.

If you think Putin would have stopped at Ukraine, you would have been sadly mistaken.

PaidthepiperTuneismine · 16/11/2022 15:33

I actually don't know that first thing about Ukrainians apart from that they were part of the Communist USSR, they're a large country, they're armed, and they don't like Russia.

Well, I'm pretty sure that I don't care anymore. When it's my life in danger as a result of some country on the far side of Europe, I'm of the opinion - why the fuck are we getting involved??

Zuno · 16/11/2022 15:33

Paid - you and I don’t agree on a lot but the last two posts have reason to them.

Nato actually backed out on wanting to join NATO several years ago. They were clear they did not want to be aligned with the West and that that was their reason (which they were very public about!).

Polish President Andrzej Duda, speaking after a meeting of his security council Wednesday, said he has seen 'no evidence' the missile was fired by Russia and it was in fact 'highly probable' the Soviet-era S-300 rocket came from Ukraine. There is no indication that Poland was deliberately targeted, he added.

'Ukraine's defense was launching their missiles in various directions and it is highly probable that one of these missiles unfortunately fell on Polish territory,' according to Duda.

Jens Stoltenberg, head of NATO, backed that analysis - saying the strike was likely a Ukrainian missile, there is 'no indication' it was deliberate and there is 'no indication' Russia is preparing an attack on NATO.

Ludivine Dedonder, the Belgian defence minister, said preliminary investigations by his security forces indicate the same thing - adding to reports that emerged in the early hours suggesting Biden had also told NATO leaders the rocket was from Ukraine.

Anything which would have involved him invading a NATO country would not have resulted in 10 months of war.

Ukraine is not in NATO.

Great for British jobs
Defence spending to double

Economic boost for Scotland
£4.2bn for warships to counter Russian subs

Kerching...!!!

Taxes, money, warships, jobs. Waking up to Russian aggression and Chinese ambition. About time.

Zuno · 16/11/2022 15:39

Bobby - it’s pointless sharing what’s been said - the people who need to read it refuse to read anything that isn’t blaming Putin!

Motive and opportunity.

Always look to those two.

The primary one to look at is MOTIVE.
