When it's my life in danger as a result of some country on the far side of Europe, I'm of the opinion - why the fuck are we getting involved??

You do know the world is a globe and due to gravity everything we are is all connected?

Gravity?

PaidthepiperTuneismine · 16/11/2022 15:43

PaidthepiperTuneismine · 16/11/2022 15:42

Gravity?

I've heard it all now. Gravity.

Ladies. Launch yourselves outside of the stratosphere because our enemy is gravity.

Oh lapdog, another Russian comment, yay lucky us!

Anyone who doesn’t agree with you is automatically a Russian bot? You are squashing free speech. Do I insult you when you state your views?

I actually don't know that first thing about Ukrainians apart from that they were part of the Communist USSR, they're a large country, they're armed, and they don't like Russia.

Well, I'm pretty sure that I don't care anymore. When it's my life in danger as a result of some country on the far side of Europe, I'm of the opinion - why the fuck are we getting involved??

Yeah why the fuck get involved it's only Ukrainian kids and old people having atrocities committed daily
It really baffles me- people start shitting themselves when they think we may have to assist in this dreadful war because our children are so precious and we wouldn't want to put them through the horror of war and risk them being killed
But yeah just turn a blind eye when it's happening elsewhere eh 🙄

Autumnnewname · 16/11/2022 15:45

Zuno · 16/11/2022 15:39

Bobby - it’s pointless sharing what’s been said - the people who need to read it refuse to read anything that isn’t blaming Putin!

I knew what had been said and I still lay the blame squarely on the russians

Where does that leave me then?

Zuno · 16/11/2022 15:46

Autumn I wasn’t talking about you.

I don't get involved when the neighbours two streets away start fighting with each other! This is really none of my fucking business. I don't know who The Jones' are. I don't know who the Smiths are. I don't give a fuck about either the Jones' nor the Smiths! They can fight among themselves. None of my business.

So what's your take on Putin's warmongering?

And what's your beef with Zelensky? After the shit that the barabarians threw at his country yesterday, I'm not blaming him for a comment

Putin shouldn’t be in Ukraine

Zelensky shouldn’t be calling for article 5 as soon as Poland situation occurred with zero evidence. Lo and behold looks like it was a Ukrainian missile. He is hell bent on escalating every event to ww3. Calling for the no fly zone from day 1 knowing that’s what it would lead to. Could he have even already known that the missile was a Ukrainian one but didn’t care anyway?

Just would rather our country kept out of things militarily. My whole life, pointless wars, deaths and money spent on stuff we don’t have to be involved in. The US will do it all anyway. Mirror what our European neighbours are doing and scale our military/weapons contributions back and focus on diplomacy and sanctions.

Gravity?

Gravity is what connects us. There is no escape from gravity. Whether it is climate change, war or pandemics. No one is safe from these causes. No country, town, city, race or individual can escape because of these fundamentals.

You can run but you cannot hide. However much you try.

Cos this is how global politics works. Like neighbours fighting a couple of blocks away.

Jesus fucking christ.

How about there is a crazed serial killer loose in the neighbourhood but he is only killing kids with blue jumpers who live on High Street and Church Street but it's fine cos the kids in red jumpers on Main Road and Station Road are completely unaffected therefore it's fine.

The absolute state of that comparison just shows the level of inability to understand the world and our ultimate inability to 'opt out' of global events.

Autumnnewname · 16/11/2022 15:58

How can you have diplomacy with a barbarian terrorist state?

Zelensky laid out his terms for ending the war clearly at the G20. None of these points could be considered unreasonable.

The Russian response? Was it to respond to this diplomacy? Was it to counter the terms?

No, it was 100 missiles fired at infrastructure which affects civilians. Cutting off water and electricity. Russia is a terrorist state

Zelensky is one man. He can't trigger WW3. What he can do, and does very well, is keep his country's plight in the headlines. I've no issue with what he said yesterday. He isn't in NATO, it's not up to him. He knows that. NATO knows that

You can either choose to deal with problems on your own terms or you can let them fester until they get so bad you are forced to deal with them whether you like it or not.

Its a bit like ignoring a cut in your arm and letting it go septic.

Just checking you do realise that is my point? I prefer the bad apple analogy personally.

Goldenbear · 16/11/2022 16:08

Actually, if the neighbours fighting two streets away cause death or even unrest to a pretty peaceful neighbourhood, then I would be concerned, I would concerned about the implications for us 2 streets away and future ability to live in a civilised community.

EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE STATEMENTS ARE STATEMENT YOU MADE ON THIS THREAD IN THE PAST 18 HOURS.

*What happens next is a political decision more than a military decision.
Thats more predictable than people think, if you understand european politics and levels of other concerns.
The hysteria (and yes I'm going to use the word) has been ridiculous.
The 'we are going to die its ww3' crew should hang heads in shame for stirring the shit pot last night.
It was an incident which would be dealt with proportionately - tbh if mn did anything it should to stress calm, not wind it up further.
The words
PROPORTIONAL RESPONSE
Need neon lights on this thread.
Whatever you think the truth is the responsible way for the US to behave is to have a proportionate response to this.
That was NEVER going to be launching ruddy nukes or escalating the situation in a way that might make that more likely.
What worries me is this seems to be an alien concept to so many posters and MN actually fed that.
More reason less ridiculousness people.

^and now you want me to fight with my neighbours?' Are you a Smith or a Jones? Because frankly, I don't give a shit!

How about there is a crazed serial killer loose in the neighbourhood but he is only killing kids with blue jumpers who live on High Street and Church Street but it's fine cos the kids in red jumpers on Main Road and Station Road are completely unaffected therefore it's fine.

And then encouraging measured response while telling us that we don't know anything?

RedToothBrush · 16/11/2022 16:28

PaidthepiperTuneismine · 16/11/2022 16:10

Now who is warmongering?

What the actual fuck!?

I'm saying there are some problems in life that can't just be seen as other peoples purely because you haven't been hurt yet!

Thats not warmongering!

The inability of people to read is staggering sometimes.

I don't think its ever simple or black and white. I don't think staying out of things is a choice available in global politics a lot of the time.

This thread is mindblowing.

From people saying that no one was getting overly anxious last night and talking about nukes etc (so why the hell did MN feel the need to actually edit the title, and I'm sure 'words' were actually used but somehow have become invisible overnight (unless you can use the 'go to page x' facility in which case you enter a parallel dimension). To people saying I was calling for censorship despite me explicitly saying the opposite (those words didn't appear on other peoples accounts you see). I said it was tone that was problematic not content but apparently free speech is about shouting a lot. Cos where would we be without disinformation and misinformation and conspiracy theories (hmmm well I can recommend hannah arendt on that gem).

How many fingers am I holding up Winston?

I'll leave you all to it.
