For me:

cruising - no, you’re on a cruise

flexitarian - also no, you’re a meat eater

We were all invited recently to participate in “online jams

@CeliaCanth what does that mean?

LoveItaly · 19/09/2026 13:49

“Way” as in it’s “way bigger” or “way harder”. What happened to much?

Also advocated, instead of just speaking up for. Advocate is a much stronger word, and implies a public element.

MrsMoastyToasty · 19/09/2026 13:56

"What (insert item here) are we buying this spring/summer/autumn/winter?".

I'm not buying anything. What are you buying?

"Deconstructed"...normally in terms of food eg Deconstructed Cottage Pie. No! It's mince and potatoes on a plate.

Mindfulturtle · 19/09/2026 13:57

Physicality … or musicality…. When did that become a thing? Hear it more and more from commentators/judges.
mum sure it never used to exist before Strictly Come Dancing!

dramalessllama · 19/09/2026 13:59

Boy mom; Girl dad.

How about just mom and dad?

Footloosenotfancy · 19/09/2026 14:01

Nom, nom or Yum and yummy.
Although the poster above has said "Do better", that gets my hackles up too.

Someone saying “do better” as if they are some sort of school teacher.

Oh yes, this is just scolding isn't it?

Surely nobody actually believes they are doing anything but being inflammatory when they write that. I've never heard anyone say it aloud.

MyLifeHasChanged · 19/09/2026 14:03

We can 'broach' the subject

Ugh 😖

“Gifting”
”I’ve been gifted a new doodah”
”I gifted someone a new doodah”
”I gifted my bridesmaids customised doodahs”

When was “give” retired as a verb?

"To gift" as a verb is perfectly legitimate in the legal world. I use it daily at work but I agree, it is overused in the wild.

She gifted him the deposit for a flat - ✔️
She gifted him a Lego set - ❌️

Wanky corporate drivel that has zero meaning…..ie:

“This is not a moment, it's a movement.

As we move the needle on our north star, we need to circle back, drill down and leverage our core competencies to unlock value at scale.

Let's not boil the ocean. Let's pick the low-hanging fruit, stay agile and take this offline.

Our culture is organic, so we'll empower stakeholders to think outside the box and get everyone aligned on the vision.

At the end of the day, the bandwidth is there and the runway is clear. Now let's pivot, disrupt the space, and action this!!!!”

People saying for example they had a gourmet burger with a brioche bun and a side of chunky chips with a craft beer. Chips, burger and a beer but they’d never say that!!

They are worried you might think they've been to McDonald's, although I guess the beer would rule that out.

CeliaCanth · 19/09/2026 14:07

@38thparallel zoom meetings!

Good Lord. That's quite a collection.

She's giving - hate it
Trauma- when said in relation to something mildly inconvenient
Life hack - no it's just common sense
Game changer - this is the worst one of all

Seldomseen · 19/09/2026 14:08

Picky bits.

Also, 'super' as in "That sounds super fun!" or "That meeting was super boring."

Eugh.

DominoLover51 · 19/09/2026 14:09

Saying ‘I’m going to catch an exhibition’.

applepie123456 · 19/09/2026 14:11

Gentle reminder really irritates me, just a reminder will do.

38thparallel · 19/09/2026 14:11

@CeliaCanth thank you! I wouldn’t have worked that out.

@tumblerforwine
Someone saying “do better” as if they are some sort of school teacher.

A couple of times on here I’ve seen posters say “behave yourself” to someone they disagree with. Is this actually used in adult conversations or arguments?
I’ve only heard it used to children.

UltimateTravelList · 19/09/2026 14:12

Picky bits or picky tea and I don’t care even if it’s M&S picky bits, it still sounds like you’re eating scabs 🤮

it’s giving

let’s normalise

my grandmother told me about <insert made up psychological sounding theory that she definitely didn’t tell you about> and now I can’t unhear it

and it’s not a wanky saying but i‘m adding in those identical awful posters that are everywhere on social media for everything because that’s what AI thinks a poster should now look like and they are literally everywhere. You may as well advertise that you have zero imagination or talent. My kids school even uses them, I emailed them to say surely you could find ONE KID who could design you a poster? Surely.

fouleetmites · 19/09/2026 14:14

I hate 'popped', 'popping', 'pop' when referring to movement or activity.

'I am popping out'
'I popped to the shops yesterday'
'Can you pop this on there for me please'
'If you pop so and so an email...'

Ugh.

Popping is something that balloons do. Or a carbonated soft drink.
