For me:

cruising - no, you’re on a cruise

flexitarian - also no, you’re a meat eater

‘It’s really toxic’ in response to pretty much any situation the person doesn’t care for.

’it’s triggering’ for anything whatsoever that reminds that person of something they vaguely disliked.

Both expressions utterly minimise the true impact trauma.

tunainatin · 19/09/2026 12:41

Neurospicy. Drives me nuts.

SmashThePatriarchy · 19/09/2026 12:42

At the moment “locked in” makes me want to scream.

Speakeasy22 · 19/09/2026 12:44

Not exactly wankiest but... gifted. What happened to given/gave? Why is everything a gift and not a present.

Redheadedstepchild · 19/09/2026 12:45

Overton Window.

Give us the room
Walk with me.

“Gifting”
”I’ve been gifted a new doodah”
”I gifted someone a new doodah”
”I gifted my bridesmaids customised doodahs”

When was “give” retired as a verb?

GameOfJones · 19/09/2026 12:53

Luxe

I recently needed to switch off a bit and watch some trash tv, so I found Love is Blind on Netflix.

One thing I keep hearing them say (especially the women) is “he/it/they are such a vibe.”

It irrationally irritates me, and makes me want to scream at the TV. In hindsight, probably not the best thing to watch when I just need to switch off 😂

Boreded · 19/09/2026 12:54

‘That sounds like a you problem’ - never known anyone who wasn’t a dickhead say this.

Starting any sentence with ‘kindly’

pigmygoatsinjumpers · 19/09/2026 12:55

"Elevate your look with . . . "

DontBotherJustChooseYourself · 19/09/2026 12:55

"just 2 more sleeps" (or however many number of 'sleeps' left) & also related - "holibobs".

My 20 something who i love dearly declares everything a "Vibe" makes me want to poke them in the eyes 😂

Yeah, I did start to sense that it’s just the cool kid language of today, and I’m officially old and uncool. I probably came out with similar irritating phrases at their ages and annoyed my parents 😂

JontyGentooey · 19/09/2026 12:58

Authentic self.

Take ownership.

Anything referring to "the narrative".

canklesmctacotits · 19/09/2026 12:58

“Intriguing”, when applied to a person or unexpected turn of events. 99.9/100 it’s not at all intriguing, it’s that the speaker’s imagination is fully stunted.

Overton Window.

I came across this in a random fluff mystery novel I was reading the other day - it wasn't new, published years ago. I'm not sure how the expression had utterly passed me by until then, but suddenly I've seen it several times in a few days. It's a moderately useful expression I'd have thought, but perhaps that's just because it's new to me somehow!

Personally I find

reach out if this resonates with you (a social media classic)

the wankiest collection of words to combine as a phrase, followed by

holding space

although I also loathe the overuse of "grab", I'm not sure its wanky.

😂 my eldest is in her 30s, she doesn't say it so i am hoping it is just a "phase" but it is bloody annoying

lavenderrosedaisy · 19/09/2026 13:00

‘We are pregnant’ (unless referring two or more actually pregnant women)

’well done that man’

and yes agree to ‘neurospicy’ and ‘triggering’

Biloute · 19/09/2026 13:04

“Running through it” when talking about a flavour as in “ you can really taste the lemon running through it.

Fast800goingforit · 19/09/2026 13:04

Curated

End of discussion. Curated ear. Curated by Z List Celebrity, etc, etc.

MrsBatshitRatshit · 19/09/2026 13:04

Curated, unless you are working in a museum.

Going forward. What's wrong with 'in future'?

SmallDFartyCarNRG · 19/09/2026 13:05

"I'm a nice guy!"
"Doing it for the plot"

Both used by utter drama infested weevils.

goodthinking99 · 19/09/2026 13:05

Joshing…makes me want to scream! As in ‘I’m just joshing’. aaaggghhhhhhh!!!! My lovely partner of 13 years has a tendency to say this and it is the only time that I ever have the urge to punch him squarely in the face. Reader, I do not and would not actually punch him under any circumstances . And to his credit he says it less frequently now…phew!

Missingguineapigs · 19/09/2026 13:05

At work people keep talking about the piece, e.g. "let's focus on the Comms piece for now". I was in an external teams meeting yesterday and so many people were using it. I guess it means piece of work, but why not just say work? I don't know why I find it so cringeworthy.
