For me:

cruising - no, you’re on a cruise

flexitarian - also no, you’re a meat eater

I saw a thread title about a curated ear, it annoyed me so much, I didn't click on it, what is it ?

It's literally a picture of someone's ear with some earrings in it.

When in a restaurant and ordering food - ‘Can I get’ instead of ’I’ll have’ or ‘I’d like’. Such an ugly expression.

A myriad of.

Only ever used by people trying to show off about how clever they are whilst also being grammatically incorrect.

Space Everything seems to be a space nowadays rather than a hall, venue etc.

Singularising of words -
A red lip
A wide legged trouser

At work people keep talking about the piece, e.g. "let's focus on the Comms piece for now". I was in an external teams meeting yesterday and so many people were using it. I guess it means piece of work, but why not just say work? I don't know why I find it so cringeworthy.

Oh god yes. In my last job that word was used for everything!

As far as I’m concerned the only thing that the word ‘piece’ should be used with is ‘cake’

Is a "cheeky Nando's" ok though?

Never

EmailsaysOOO · 19/09/2026 13:30

I understand why people use it, and perhaps in the right situation I could accept if someone used it to me but my toes curl up when I see :

"Gently....."

momager22 · 19/09/2026 13:34

Also wannabe entrepreneurs who call themselves ‘the ceo of my own life’

kirinm · 19/09/2026 13:34

‘Too woke’ - I immediately assume anyone using the word woke as a derogatory term as an idiot.

itstoolateforsnacks · 19/09/2026 13:35

All the wanky new work related ones. I mean they’re not new! But very wanky

Reached out
Leaning into things
Cascading

There are more…

Curious how you feel about the term/concept of virtue signalling then?

piscofrisco · 19/09/2026 13:38

Authentic
doing things authentically. What does it even mean? Just…doing stuff normally? As yourself? How else can you do it?
’showing up as myself’ as opposed to…in disguise?

ExpectMore · 19/09/2026 13:39

A “lived experience”. I think you mean “experience”

I get a 'gentle' reminder from my dentist that my check up is due and that really irritates me! Just remind me, you don't have to do it gently 🙄

Mauro711 · 19/09/2026 13:41

Oh there are so many.

Using reflexive pronouns erronously is pretty wankery though. Especially since I am pretty sure people do it to sound educated.

They invited DP and myself to the party. Just no!

luckylavender · 19/09/2026 13:41

I have lots but currently ‘guardrails’. Everyone uses it all the time.

Well you won’t like what I believe is going to be next in this category then…I was on holiday in a place with lots of Americans and they ordered drinks and meals with ‘can I do?’ ‘I think I’ll do …a tequila and a beer…’ ‘I’ll do the steak’ …. Please no.

tumblerforwine · 19/09/2026 13:49

Someone saying “do better” as if they are some sort of school teacher.
