For me:

cruising - no, you’re on a cruise

flexitarian - also no, you’re a meat eater

Curated.
Nothing is selected or chosen now - it’s all ‘curated’. I suppose they think it sounds fancier - and probably that it merits a higher price.

Using "right" all the time is just common northern vernacular

WearingBeautifulShoes · 20/09/2026 12:25

Someone on Strictly last night said she and her pro partner "matched each other's energy" so she "locked in" and was looking forward to good "vibes". I almost had to switch the TV off.

Dbank · 20/09/2026 12:30

The right thing to do (If you think otherwise, it's the "wrong thing")
We need to have a conversation... (We're having a conversation!!!)
Those with the broadest shoulders (Those who have worked harder)
Let me be clear (... and waffle on about something else)
Affordable Housing (Subsidised by everyone but the owner)
Mistakes were made (... but nobody will take the blame)
Lessons have been learned (... but no one will get fired)
Challenging times ahead (... things are going to get much worse)
Robust discussion (... we just argued and achieved nothing)
Under active consideration (... it is sitting at the bottom of a pile)
Investing in our future (... we are raising your taxes or prices)

I absolutely hate when people use whimsy as an adjective. ‘That’s so whimsy’. No it’s WHIMSICAL.

Also when they say they’re ’reading’ history/english/classics at University. I know it’s correct. But it’s very pretentious. I’ve even done it myself and then felt annoyed at myself.

RaraRachael · 20/09/2026 14:22

Probably just in my area but I hate, "Wee wifie" to describe a baby or little girl.

Starburst360 · 20/09/2026 16:03

For me, adulting. Just no

notacooldad · 20/09/2026 16:06

I agree with making memories.
'Neurospicy. Drives me nuts' yes to this as well

One that hasn't completely died a death on her is " naice" It's been around forever now, I know how it started but recently on a thread someone was asking for a ' naice" area to live or something, I cant remember what, and I just thought its not amusing, it just sounds stupid.

Can I add this to your excellent list please?

We are committed to improving... (We don't actually care, we're only sorry we got caught, and we have absolutely no intention of changing anything about the way we do things)

Is it? I'm from the North, I don't use it, apart from 'yeah right', a lot..

MerelyPlaying · 20/09/2026 21:10

Oh, and ‘plant based’. Drives me mad. It’s used on everything these days as if it’s some sort of virtuous attribute.

That was Jaime Winstone. I couldn't even begin to work out whether someone matched my energy. What does it even mean?

Ohh that reminds me. Something I heard on the traitors - 'I've got main character energy' vomit
