For me:

cruising - no, you’re on a cruise

flexitarian - also no, you’re a meat eater

“Making memories”

chattyness · 19/09/2026 18:09

When I'm watching tv and I hear someone say "you need to leave" it really bugs me . Surely it should be : " I need you to leave"

Bjorkdidit · 19/09/2026 18:13

Done/did/doing as a synonym for been/going to

This year we did Greece. Next year we're doing Italy. Makes me want to ask what they did to it.

Terrified when they mean a bit worried
Phenomenal or stunning when they mean quite nice.

Passed instead of passed away
pickey bits

Why not just use died - no doubt then, just be honest about what you mean.

No brainer 🤢

Piece. Referring to an item of clothing or furniture.
We are pregnant. NO!

Yes and "jumping" on a call. Why would I jump?

Oh lord I hate this too. And I hear it several times a day at work. Part of my team's job is answering calls from new clients, but we don't have many calls and it isn't a huge part. So for this reason some of us get engrossed in our other work and forget to look out for if anyone is available on the phonelines. Several times a day a manager 'Can someone jump on the lines please team?'

Grr. Why not 'Can someone go on available please?' Or 'Nobody's available to answer calls everyone!' Or just anything normal!

I wouldn't ever go for the management role, because you need to be full time. But if anything ever changes and do,I will most definitely not be adopting the established language!

oh yes "spenny". This is such an awful awful word and doesn't make sense. It's like a 4 year old has made up a word.

All of these. Actually all of them. Plus ‘ripped out’ when talking about refurbishing a house etc. Ripping is for paper, or bodices 😂. You just take out your old kitchen or bathroom etc.

A “cheeky” burger or a “cheeky” pint or whatever.

Dirty is worse. Makes me think of a place with poor food hygiene.

FromaBubblegumTree · 19/09/2026 19:30

@PuppyMonkey "going up the Asda" sounds terrible! (sniggers)

@Wonkybaby see also: "pulled out". Children are never removed from a school/class/club - they must be pulled out.

Nothungrycat · 19/09/2026 19:57

Super - when added to words such as "exciting" or "interesting". Unnecessary over-enthusiasm when adjectives such as "very" or 'really" exist..

frozendaisy · 19/09/2026 19:59

When utterly mediocre people and actions are described as “legend”

Crumpelstiltskin · 19/09/2026 19:59

'Myself'. People who use it instead of me or I . It sounds so ridiculous.

See also calling everyone and everything "iconic".

RaraRachael · 19/09/2026 23:41

When something or somebody "goes viral" or "breaks the internet" for doing something that's at best, mediocre.

‘Reaching out’

Calling · 19/09/2026 23:52

'I'm passionate about collaborating' = I don't know how to do this job, but I will take all your experience and knowledge and make it seem as though I knew it anyway.

People 'gut' a perfectly good building or 'rip out' perfectly a good kitchen. Aggressive!

PestoQueen · 19/09/2026 23:55

Wellness… 😖

Mmhmmn · 20/09/2026 00:03

Reach out / reaching out as in contacting someone.

just say contacting / calling / emailing!

HelpMeGetThrough · 20/09/2026 04:41

Signposting. Just fuck off with that.

One I’ve seen on here a couple of times. “Filling my cup”. Unless you are making a drink, stop being a pretentious twat!
