I think it’s harder to get such venom going towards disabled people.

I don't think many disabled people would necessarily agree. I certainly don't.

I definitely don't agree, sadly.

Eta: LBC often has phone ins about PIP. The vitriol from callers is breathtaking.

So let's get this straight. The Tories are suggesting a cut in 'welfare benefits' to fund the defence budget but at the same time don't want to impose a wealth tax because those multi billionaires will leave.

A wealth tax could fund the shortfall in defence. Are the Tories suggesting that the 157 multi billionaires in the UK are not patriotic?

DuncinToffee · 18/09/2026 12:26

They use the words 'genuine' and 'deserving' but without saying who/what they actually mean with that.

Agree. They never define genuine or deserving.

DuncinToffee · 18/09/2026 12:30

Millionaires become partriotic once they are abroad

I’m not arguing with you, Jane. My assessment of their self awareness aligns with yours. I also agree with MsJinks, they’ll have difficulty finding another group they can weaponise as easily as immigrants.

Fair enough ... I hope you're right

They also want handouts to Tory councils whose name begins with "W".

Brexit style.

Important not to define your target.

Once you start defining it and people recognise themselves/their families, support melts away.

And defining it requires some analysis rather back of a fag packet.

Maybe 'normal' is the basis for a society that protects itself against perceived disaster to their 'normal' way of life. Note women are sub grouped into those who procreate, men are men.

"The people we are meeting are just normal mothers, normal grandmothers, normal men," [Daniel]Thomas said.

‘Outright racist’ Daniel Thomas will face full force of law over any crimes, says home secretary

Shabana Mahmood says she wants to distinguish between far-right extremism and legitimate local concerns over asylum sites

A cursory use of AI suggests we look to the the discretionary executive powers granted by the Localism Act 2011,

2011 ? Hmmm.

I restate. Kemi is none too bright.

Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch has a serious expression as she is interviewed in front of a Newsnight logo.

Badenoch brings in lawyers after 94% Wandsworth Council tax hike

A row is growing over Wandsworth Council's rise, which the local authority is blaming on government funding cuts.

Another story (not) all over Mumsnet. If only we could work in some immigrant angle, eh ?

I have the joy of this and my local mental health trust being in the news, at the moment. As with all the maternity trusts, too many years of underfunding, mismanagement and just plain indifference and it's destroying and sometimes ending people's lives.

I was reading about that just now. Utterly horrific.

BIossomtoes · 18/09/2026 14:39

It’s awful, isn’t it? I really feel for those poor women.

Well it isn't all over Mumsnet because, radio silence, long pause.

The surgeon was incompetent and all women are guilty of any crime that men do. They should have known and not be so trustworthy of professionals in their care, especially the professional who was cared for. Women are not vulnerable until undocumented men live near them.

TemperanceWest · 18/09/2026 15:48

MN isn't really bothered in general unless it involves immigrants, Muslims, benefit claimants or trans people. Or something Angela Rayner has done or said.

TemperanceWest · 18/09/2026 15:50

Also, most of these terrible cases happened under a Tory government. So another reason for tumbleweed.

Sadly, you're probably right.

And the surgeon involved actually would give the racists something to shout about if it was an issue that enough of them cared about.

Indeed and also the multiple changes of health secretaires.
