Would you be comfortable if your daughter was assigned a male nursery worker?

Out of interest, how would you feel if your daughter was assigned a male member of staff in an early years setting to provide intimate care? Would you feel just as comfortable if a female member of staff was assigned?

Some may be okay with it, some may not - interested to see the general consensus.

Also while obviously DBS checks are important, having one doesn’t mean you won’t commit a criminal act. All it shows is that you haven’t been convicted of a crime or come to police attention, and unfortunately when it comes to sex offences in general there are many male sex offenders wandering around in society with totally clean records.

nappy changes are done in pairs and cctv they are dbs checked

My daughter is now 17 but she had a male key worker at nursery. He was absolutely lovely and great at his job.

Not unless my DD could speak and fully communicate any issues. At nursery age, no way.

Most nurseries are understaffed - how can they have 2 people doing nappy changes? DBS is practically meaningless. Katie Roughly, convicted of the manslaughter of Genevieve Meehan, had an unblemished enhanced DBS record. (Mind you part of her defence at her trial was that she was left in sole charge of between 11 and 16 babies at a time).

My daughter had a fab male key worker at nursery, she wasn’t a baby though she was a toddler and she thought he was the best thing ever as he was really energetic and fun. He wouldn’t have ever been alone with her though and she was toilet trained by this point.

My daughters nursery only had male workers in the older kids rooms, no men were in the under 2’s and then the men were more outdoor workers like forest school etc

when I was at nursery (a long time ago) there was a male volunteer. My mum told the workers that under no circumstances should he or any male take either me or my brother to the toilet.

Youre not being old fashioned. A male worker is statistically more likely to sexually abuse a child. Probably he’s lovely but I’d not be ok with this.

Yes - this is an extract from a report about her trial.
Her barrister, Sarah Elliott KC, said the defendant was “devastated” by her actions and that she was remorseful, despite her refusal to accept legal responsibility for Genevieve’s death.
Elliott said Roughley had an “unblemished” 17-year career at Tiny Toes and that she had been “failed” by the nursery’s senior management, who employed “far too few staff”, leaving her on occasions caring for between 11 and 16 babies on her own. She added: “She is not a monster.”

They would still be great role models to six and seven year olds though.

How would the ability to talk prevent any abuse? Kids can’t defend themselves neither can many adults.
