Christ, I hate grating cheese. If I have to grate, I buy it grated. (But not Parmesan because I'm not a savage)
also real garlic if it's going in a tray bake, but anything else I buy the frozen stuff from Tesco
Dried chilies instead of fresh, and cooked food
haven't sieved flour for 30 years yet unknown for my brilliant sponge cakes

All of it! I batch cook casserole, chilli, pulled pork, shredded chicken etc for my lunches so do a couple of batches a week and my recipe goes along the lines of: pack of meat chunks, 2x bags sliced mushrooms, 1 x bag sliced red onion, 1 x bag sliced mixed peppers…… I literally buy, open, pour into slow cooker, turn on and forget about it.

Wipeywipey · 27/08/2026 19:36

Urgh grated cheese has that powdery coating though? I keep a grater by the oven and use it 2 or three times before washing it up, that way I can do it over the meal at the end or on plates individually etc.
For me it is onions. I hate it, that stupid layer of waste, then the eyes and needing to go over and over it to make it small enough for DC not to notice... I cba to wash up anything fancy that promises to do it in 3 seconds.

I buy frozen chopped onions and frozen garlic so I don’t have to chop them.

and lots of frozen veg too.

MurielTheTerrible · 27/08/2026 19:37

I hate grating with the Big Grater. If I need (ahem) Parmesan, or a bit of regular cheese, I use the microplane because washing the Big Grater is irritating AF. I also grate garlic as I CBA with washing the crusher. If I'm making cheese sauce, I cut it into small cubes, much less faff. I hate using the food processor because it's at the back of a cupboard so I've got to get everything out to get to it and it takes forever to clean. I use the hand blender wand vibratory thing for soup to save on washing up.
Other than that, I'd be an ace kitchen hand, I love chopping and stirring.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 27/08/2026 19:39

Peeling. Peeling anything. I cook potatoes with the skin on, I've got a garlic crusher that holds on to the skin. I balk a bit at apples because I hate the skin on those, but I've found if I take the core out and bake them stuffed I can eat the skin. And I buy frozen butternut squash and carrots.

I just hate peeling!

I bought one of those ridiculous Instagram choppers. It is an absolute wonder for diced onions and really surprisingly good for salads too.

I don’t mind peeling too much but I’ve been known to chop the skin off potatoes and butter nut squash. It can be wasteful though.

TheOlderIGetTheStayerIHome · 27/08/2026 19:41

I also hate grating cheese, but just don’t like the flour coating they have on the pre grated. If I’m doing a whole block I’ll use the grating attachment on my food processor.

I hate finely dicing carrots and onions to go in stews and curries. I roughly chop then pulse in a mini chopper until really fine, but not pulped. It’s quicker to do that and wash the mini chopper than it is to dice it by hand, and I can never find the frozen soffritto mix anywhere.

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 27/08/2026 19:46

I buy frozen mashed potatoes. Honestly, peeling AND boiling AND mashing - wtaf? I didn’t sign up for slavery.

paomara · 27/08/2026 19:48

I grate cheese in bulk and store in a tub in the fridge and freeze the rest in portions. I confess to Almighty God that I sprinkle a very small amount of cornflour in to keep it from sticking together and I don't see anything wrong with that either!

I buy lazy garlic, onion powder, frozen mash, frozen veg except carrotts (they are so spongy frozen). I think that's the extent of my laziness, but I'm sure there are more.

shellyleppard · 27/08/2026 19:49

I use ready prepped frozen ginger and garlic. Lots of frozen vegetables too. Mainly cos if I buy fresh it goes rotten before we use it up.
Currently in my freezer i have green beans, peas, broccoli, cauliflower and
, roasting parsnips ❤️

Problem around here is that lots of shops 'do' it, but they just don't always have it in. I went to the enormous Asda the other week (it's a 60 mile round drive) and their frozen veg aisle was empty.

Livid, I was.

Oioiqueen · 27/08/2026 19:52

Frozen garlic, ginger and coriander
Frozen onions and peppers

I do a lot of Batch cooking so I can throw the above together in bags with no prep when the food shop turns up.

TrojanDonkey · 27/08/2026 19:53

I buy grated cheese and frozen onions. I am never chopping onions again.

Minced garlic.

Oioiqueen · 27/08/2026 19:53

@Vroomfondleswaistcoat oooo that's really annoying. I online food shop and buy it in bulk when it's not out of stock. I find it a great base for making pies.

SixAndJuliet · 27/08/2026 19:54

Part laziness and part because I hate it but I always buy diced chicken. I do my absolute best to avoid touching chicken cos it turns my stomach.

NeedToTravelMore · 27/08/2026 19:54

Peeling carrots. I despise it, I buy the fresh batons.
Is rather feel a sack of spuds than peel a bag of carrots .

ExplodingSmittens · 27/08/2026 19:55

I thought it wasn’t much but I do buy garlic and ginger puree, chilli flakes and I’ve recently become a convert to frozen soffritto.

Jeromeinaboat · 27/08/2026 19:56

I can’t buy frozen onions because my children fish them out unless cut really small. Ffs. I also hate washing my garlic crusher. Contemplated a new one from the middle of Aldi but still use my broken one that’s crap to wash up

Kevinbaconsrealwife · 27/08/2026 19:57

Ready made mash and roasties….my aunt Bessie makes them lovely bless her x

i got mine from Lidl, it washes up easy and the best thing is that my DD thinks it’s the most fun kitchen gadget so I don’t even have to use it 😀
