Can someone explain to me what is going on with the A66 crash and revenge killings?

I’m not understanding any of this. 5 young men were driving a car in the wrong land and hit an unmarked car head on, killing the two police officers driving it. That I understand.

Why are there now reports of a house being burned out, killing an older woman and a young child? Further hints of gangland violence. Why? Is it the families of the 5 men blaming each other, or other people?

I'd imagine you need to be involved that particular gang scene to know exactly why things are happening

Hopefully no one here is in a position to be in the know

Losingtheplot2016 · 26/08/2026 21:21

Very unclear. I was assuming the fire might be some sort of revenge.
It feels very out of control.

HappyHedgehog247 · 26/08/2026 21:24

From media reports it seems two rival gangs. Volvo gang rammed house of Passat gang member dad. Passat gang went seeking revenge but all 5 instead died. So Passat gang now have damaged property and 5 dead gang members. Presumably they want revenge on Volvo gang members and family. If it's organised crime I would assume due to drugs and/or weapons. Who knows if any of this is true!

Oh, that makes more sense.

All sounds horrible but it’s confusing

Yes the families of those 5 keep prattling on about how they are the victims, they aren’t “thugs to be written off.” Etc etc. Yet here we are with more murders related to those 5 men and their associates.

I'm glad you asked this question.
I am completely confused, more so after reading the news update yesterday.
Why have 17 people been arrested? What have 17 people got to do with this car driving the wrong way?
Why are people paying tribute to the 5 males in that car in words that describe them as wonderful, caring lads? Why are balloons being released for them?
Why did a car drive in to the house of the father of one of the lads in that car?
Honestly, I have read about it but I am completely confused.

edwinbear · 26/08/2026 21:40

The car drove into the house of the lads dad (presumably as he’s a wrongun’ too). The dad’s son and his mates, jumped into the Passat to chase down the Volvo that rammed into his house, probably looking to fight them. Instead they died, driving the wrong way down the motorway. Now some poor little girl and her mum have died by having their house set on fire. I’m guessing the other 17 arrests have come about as the Police have been having a good look through the SM of all associates and found some very unsavoury results.

Why the f**k would they have driven the wrong way down the A66 though? Why? Why were they driving towards oncoming traffic if they were trying to gind the volvo??

Because the police were chasing them. They tried to outrun the police by turning the wrong way down the A66 slip. The police stop chasing at that point. That’s all very old news now.

I didn’t know about 17 arrests. It’s just bizarre. It’s like the crash has revealed some hidden web of revenge somehow

Something to do with gang warfare. Quite what nobody seems to know yet or if they do it hasnt been made public.

The arrests were reported on the BBC. The police likely recovered mobile phones or other items from the crashed car which provided the evidence for the arrests.

I won't go any further into the realms of speculation, as we've been asked not to by the police.

Because the police got wind of them tearing about locally and set off in pursuit on ‘normal’ roads. The boys knew the police would stop chasing them if they went onto the motorway going in the wrong direction so they’d ’get away’ with it.

Mischance · 26/08/2026 21:55

I'm not sure how any of this gangland stuff might cause them to drive the wrong way down a dual carriageway.

MyThreeWords · 26/08/2026 21:57

There's no reason why we should understand any of this.

It is very early days in what is clearly a complex set of investigations. It isn't a true crime show; it's true crime. We can't consume it in real time. We shouldn't expect to know or understand anything until and unless there are court cases.

Yep this exactly! Shit heads the lot of them

HelenaWilson · 26/08/2026 21:58

The boys knew the police would stop chasing them....

They weren't boys. Two of them were 23.

Mischance · 26/08/2026 21:59

The boys knew the police would stop chasing them if they went onto the motorway going in the wrong direction so they’d ’get away’ with it. - but they must also have known this was a great way to get themselves killed. There is no logic to this, unless they were totally drugged up in which case I doubt whether they had enough functioning brain cells to postulate any sort of strategy to shake off the police.

I am just glad that the police are getting stuck in to rounding up these thugs.

BakewellGin1 · 26/08/2026 22:03

At a guess, county lines activity, organised crime groups and gangs getting out of control

edwinbear · 26/08/2026 22:03

I’m thankfully not at all familiar with this sort of lifestyle, but my assumption would be these sorts of people have a much higher tolerance of risk than most. I get worried if my shopping comes up for checking at a self checkout.

Probably also sensible to highlight we don’t actually know the two incidents are related. As PP have said, the police need to complete their investigations.
