Can someone explain to me what is going on with the A66 crash and revenge killings?

I’m not understanding any of this. 5 young men were driving a car in the wrong land and hit an unmarked car head on, killing the two police officers driving it. That I understand.

Why are there now reports of a house being burned out, killing an older woman and a young child? Further hints of gangland violence. Why? Is it the families of the 5 men blaming each other, or other people?

I'm not sure it's much better from any force, other than not knowing the involved officers personally. Any death to fellow police officers in this manner is going to put the FLOs in a difficult position.

They had convictions and cautions galore.

Yes awful for the ambulance and fire crews but they won't t have to support the families of those responsible.

Even if neighbouring forces assisting it must be incredible difficult to stay professional when dealing with the balloon releasing 'our lads would do anything for anyone' mentality.

Maybe if this stuff (gang rivalry, drugs, violence) stopped happening the areas would stop being impoverished and start being wealthy? I think people need to start being accountable for their own values and actions and stop blaming the environment around them. Viktor Frankl’s quote comes to mind….

It's so much more complex than just saying people living in poverty should just live differently.

Everybody knows the vast majority of those in areas of deprivation don't live a life of crime but it's naive, at best, to not see there's a huge link between poverty and many types of crime.

The five Passat occupants were still someone’s relative. Those relatives may be good hard working people that have never knowingly broken the law themselves. Or maybe they’re from two generations of jobless and become entrenched in no-hope victim mentality. Whichever, they will still mourn.
What saddens me is the need to hold the disruptive vigil the day after the deaths. But we need to ask whether it was condoned by the wider family - I suspect not as there’s been no reporting. I suspect it is indicative of the wider social problems in the area, no doubt fostered by a lack of visible policing over a long period of time. That’s likely to be down to a lack of funding for the Cleveland police rather any fault of the police themselves. Law and order means little to so many and that’s frightening.
What troubles me is that this could so very easily be my/your area, your children, your grandchildren. Don’t ever pretend it won’t happen. The world as we know it is disintegrating.

And the call for ‘compo’ may be down to the sheer lack of money to bury their dead.

I hear you. I live in a medium sized city and some of the stuff that has gone on here in the past has made national news, gun crime, high level drug dealing with related murders and turf wars that meant that people from one postcode area risked being attacked if they strayed into another and vice versa. We had several years of being one of the most notorious cities to live in. I have a vivid memory of being in the queue in Wilko and the sight and sound of several police cars heading in the direction of a well known area only elicited the comment "oh well, that will be another shooting" and nobody turned a hair.

The kind of spectacularly stupid, amoral, selfish pricks who have lived a life of crime with few consequences.

I guess I'm just confused that they smashed straight into a police car not any other type of vehicle. I asked because I read the articles and they don't explain how that came to be.

The police car that they hit had been called to the area to help locate the Passat. They were not the police involved in the chase before the Passat entered the A66.

Really? You've missed all the reports that they were driving at speed down the wrong way of a dual carriageway and you're wondering how there was a head on collision? The police car unfortunately was coming the other way. It is beyond tragic that it wasn't a massive HGV.

My dad was an HGV driver for 30 years, a car hitting his HGV at the speed the passat was travelling would have launched my dad through the windscreen of his HGV.

no. Like ive explained, im asking how come, out of alllll the cars travelling that way on the motorway that had non-police officers in them, it was a police car they struck?! Were they those officers trying to actively pursue them, trying to block them off head on ways but then got struck? Or were they just out and about and happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time? I really am not highly interested, I was just wondering. You haven't succeeded at making me feel stupid for not understanding this - im also not sitting reading every article like you seem to be. Because there isn't that many cars on the road at 3:40am and as lots of police were attending the incident (not necessarily in the chase) the likelihood of hitting a police car was higher than the likelihood of hitting a different vehicle. Also it wasn't a motorway so not that many HGVs around
