Things that people bang on about on here that you never hear discussed in real life

I'll start:

travel trousers. - just put some jogging bottoms or leggings on for God sake and stop being a twat
Wills - Maybe nobody I know inherits any money, but wills seem to be a big deal on here

OP posts:

Will are really important though. Especially if unmarried surely?

And again!

Are you being deliberately obtuse?

VanCleefArpels · 26/08/2026 12:58

Wedding related draaaaaama: maids of honour, hen do’s, being invited, not being invited. Children, no children, partner or no partner . Do people seriously act like this now? I was married 30 years ago, it was so much simpler then!

I agree. Travel trousers sound like something from a distant life, like car coats, And I don't know anyone who has argued about wills. It's vulgar.

Trans people
Private schools

Odd you should say that as literally a few weeks ago a relative raised the topic of trans and we had a long conversation about it. And it's not the first time.

So yes, it does come up IRL.

Liverpool66 · 26/08/2026 13:05

1 - The Royal Family, some people are so obsessed. Most people irl don’t get worked up about them one way or the other.

2 - How much people seem to despise their female in-laws.

3 - People wanting to “step back” from long standing friendships over the smallest actual or perceived slight.

Universally welcomed apart from the one mumsnetter who had barricaded herself into a stall in TERROR 🤣

Why is the idea of a woman feeling unsafe comical to you?

EnterQueene · 26/08/2026 13:12

To be fair, most Mumsnetters obviously don't give two hoots about the Royal Family and trans people, which is why they each have their own board for the minority of posters who do want to bang on about them.

luckylavender · 26/08/2026 13:13

People in Style & Beauty being so snobby about the 'right' clothes. I've lost 5.5 stone over the past few years (WW) and been a healthy BMI and a size 10-12 for the first sustained time in my adult life. If I want to wear skinny jeans (because I can & I feel fabulous) I don't care that you'll turn your nose up at me and I won't wear carrot leg jeans instead because I should. Ditto floaty dresses with trainers and denim jackets. No one in real life gives a stuff.

Thundertoast · 26/08/2026 13:13

PatriciaRocks · 26/08/2026 12:08

Right, so... you have heard it discussed in real life?.

Yep, you are are right, i took 'never' as 'not a common topic of conversation' for some reason, my bad!

Agree - I got married 35 years ago and had a largely child free wedding - my choice. WW3 didn't start.

LathkillDale · 26/08/2026 13:18

Benefits
Fast passes at theme parks
Wills
Pensions
Going NC
LTB - there’s only one couple, who got divorced round here afaik, in the last 30 years; and none of our friends have
Boundaries
Bonding with newborn babies in a bubble, then complaining in a few years time that extended family won’t look after DC to give OP “a break”
Blended families (following on, from not knowing many divorced people)

Who is at my front door, strangers on Mumsnet? I have a Ring door bell and the FBI installed cameras around my house but I don't want to actually go to the front door.

Why did my plasterer have to use my toilet?

Why did my plasterer not remove his shoes? In fact, why the Hell did he come into my house! Surely he can do this job remotely?

I hate cats, how can I rid create a cat-exclusion zone of 3 miles around my house? In fact, I also need to include men in that zone.

How very dare Harry and Meghan move house! How many candles has Meghan sold today, no need to check her website as the crazies of Mumsnet will update us!

My next door neighbour has the audacity to be making improvements to their home! I am trying to work from home, for goodness sakes!

The row I had in the supermarket today and the other row I had by the parent and child spaces.

Is May to early to visit Home Bargains for Autumn inspired home decor and an orange thing to hang on my front door?

Husband going to the gym every night and hiding his phone but there's definitely no other woman.

Do not be a SAHM, not even for a week. Your husband might abandon you and you will never progress in your career; you will die poor and alone with no pension.

I am very rich and I must tell you all about it even though no-one cares.

School mum looked at me.

School mum didn't pay me for thing I gave her.

I'm at the airport and the holiday is a disaster with the kids already! Should I go home?

MIL wants to see my baby 1 year after they were born. Should I allow it?

Man with bladder issue ducked into the ladies disabled toilet.

I hate trans people so therefore I must post about that hatred every day on MN even though I don't actually know a trans person.

'A hill I will die on'

'Get your ducks in a row'

'Cherchez la femme'

'First post nailed it'

'Serve a chicken with a big salad.'

Tip - top answer. All of them are only MN issues

Agree - we had a large wedding - 100% no babies or children. No drama at the hen party - an afternoon tea which my grandmother, mother, sister, mother in law and sister in law were invited to.
A straightforward wedding with no drama. I didn’t have a wedding or engagement ring, didn’t promise to obey or change my surname

Yes true. The people who want to bleat on and on about trans people post of the feminist or feminism board.

Imtornanddontknowwhattodo · 26/08/2026 13:24

How offended people are by neighbours daring to use their own gardens.

If there's trouble or people shrieking late at night, fair enough. But everyday noise such as children playing, people talking and enjoying the warm weather in their gardens.

I'm unclear what people on here think gardens are for.

covid! Some people are still obsessed and even testing.

some of us might want to know what the fuck is thing that is making me feel this rough, when can I expect to show signs of turning the corner and more importantly should I defer my supermarket visit/job interview/gym visit/hair cut etc until I am better?

versus

nah, fuck them, if I'm ill I'm going to share it about, anyway, it'll make 'em al stronger in the long-run...., bunch of covid-testing snowflakes!

Nope.

AnswerIsNo · 26/08/2026 13:31

"I'm so rich I'm unhappy and need to tell everyone"

"Something, something people on benefits flying in BA first class while renting a 40 acre country mansion"

"Will and Meghan make me angry (because I don't have hobbies)"

hahabahbag · 26/08/2026 13:34

Agree with all of these though was interested in the travel trousers discussion, packable no crease clothing that can be hand washed in a hotel sink is always of interest to me being a veteran of motorcycle trips.

Enigma54 · 26/08/2026 13:35

I have a “ hobby” but can’t disclose as too “outing” 🤷‍♀️🤔

I've realised over time that gardens are for the various neighbourhood cats to shit in, which you generally only discover when cutting the grass on a hot day, requiring you to crime-scene the area off so you can mow a square barrier around it and come back later in a hazmat suit (food bags and closed mouth) to dispose of it .

There's ambient noise from children playing in and then there's outright bedlam from near-feral kids

People are still testing???????
Presumably the same deluded fools who still wear masks?

What does matter to you if they do both? Is your life that fragile that seeing someone in public wearing a mask in public sends you off the rails?

Only on Mumsnet. The irony.

Differentforgirls · 26/08/2026 13:56

FrippEnos · 26/08/2026 11:39

You don't hear trans issues spoken about in public because it is dangerous to do so.
Especially in the work place as it hass cost people their livelihood.

I’d a big conversation with two friends recently about it. Both Christians but different denominations. Both have the same views as me. Treat other people the way you want to be treated. They are a minority. Live and let live. Public toilets aren’t now, and never have been safe spaces. You’re more likely to get some mad woman confronting you because you apparently “ fancy” their boyfriend or you “looked” at them “funny”. That was in public.
