Why is Taylor Swift ‘leading’ tributes to Dolly Parton?

It’s irritating the ever living shit out of me. Fuck off Taylor, go and think up another publicity stunt. A woman with actual talent has died, this isn’t a bandwagon for you to jump your plastic ass on. Have you read her torrent of drivel - she manages to shoehorn herself into the spotlight throughout. It reads as if she views Parton as laying the groundwork for her own career - monumental fuckwittery.

I don’t mind TS but surely Miley Cyrus would be the more appropriate celebrity to do such things (if required) as her Goddaughter?

Midnightmoonface · 26/08/2026 07:59

This is an odd reaction.

Somnambule · 26/08/2026 08:01

Taylor Swift started off as a country artist so it's totally appropriate. She's also way more popular than Miley Cyrus. It's quite uncomfortable reading such a horrible, vicious description of another woman tbh.

It’s just wording for a news headline. Chill

It's just what happens when someone dies these days. The media immediately trawl social media for statements or off the cuff tweets, posts etc from anybody with a recognisable name, or their representatives, and the person they consider the most famous and/or relevant to the deceased is described as 'leading' the tributes.

Crikey, what a reaction.

I'll try to say it gently as it's obviously a sensitive subject for you.. But it's jut the media portrayal. It's not like the celebs gather together or have a WhatsApp chat and decide who is 'leading' the tributes. It's just wording for a headline and the many, many, many stories that will come for this

Critical thinking will help you decipher what is real, and what you are being lead to think, and encouraged to believe.

TheTortiePuffinNeedsHerBreakfast · 26/08/2026 08:04

Meh, it's just one throwaway headline. Loads of celebs have written some very moving tributes, Taylor Swift is just one of many. Whichever media outlet is writing the piece just picks the one who resonates most with their audience 🤷

the80sweregreat · 26/08/2026 08:05

The celebs always do this though. Dolly was an inspiration for many people and TS did start out as a country music singer. They are sad themselves and want to pay tribute to her legacy.

Pedallleur · 26/08/2026 08:05

Biggest female star gets top billing in handing out tributes. Not her fault if the press run with that. It's showbiz baby! Dolly has influenced everyone. Alison Krauss once recalled she burst into tears on first meeting Dolly having listened to her music since being a child.

SleeplessRoads · 26/08/2026 08:08

If you think Taylor isn’t a talented businesswoman, then I think you should probably reassess what you think of as talent.

And I don’t think she is “leading” tributes, she is just paying tribute to someone she thinks has impacted her career and that she admired, like every other celebrity. You don’t have to read it!

Exactly. I mean, I don’t think it’s the equivalent of a virtual stranger elbowing their way into the mourners’ car at a funeral while wearing head to toe black, a huge hat, and dark glasses.

MelonSorbet · 26/08/2026 08:08

I think it's a lovely tribute from Taylor.

NewGoldFox · 26/08/2026 08:11

My initial reaction was the same op! But I think it is more to do with the headline saying leading than anything written by Taylor. I didn’t read the full tribute (it’s long!) but I’m sure it’s a nice one.

shellyleppard · 26/08/2026 08:12

Sorry OP but you are massively over reacting. Dolly parton was a wonderful singer and human being. Does it really matter who leads the tributes?? I can't stand Donald trump yet he's flying all government building flags at half mast as a tribute. Well done to him... don't like him but he's showing respect for once

I very much doubt Dolly would be impressed by your description of TS. She built people up.

@Nailapp ahhh they have previous form??

I don't peg DT as a country music fan, more likely imo that someone else organised that in attempt to improve their dismal ratings

Purplemoors · 26/08/2026 08:15

It's just a barely thought through news headline.

I don't understand why you would be so unhinged with rage by it?

This.

Castolaya · 26/08/2026 08:17

Former country star, biggest female artist of the moment by far, likes, admires and is paying tribute to the number 1 country legend of all time. Sounds fitting to me.

What a weird misogynistic pov from the OP.

BitterTits · 26/08/2026 08:18

Are you honestly dense enough to think that TS has decided she's going to be the first to pay tribute to Dolly, then coordinate others' responses?

It's just some unimaginative hack's word for describing the reaction of the most famous person they're aware of from all the others who've done the same thing.

It's astonishing that you saw fit to create a thread about this. You must be desperate to be offended.
