A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 🥀

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Also noticeable is the names that no longer appear on those threads.

This is not something I've ever noticed but I just get a different overall vibe

It's hard to know whether it's legit because it could just be about the times of day that you post or the period that you're looking at, quite often I try not to look at those threads at all

I got stuck in freeze mode a bit last week because of having having some major stress, you know when something is really stressful and you can't do anything constructive? So I ended up engaging on some of those when I normally don't.

I really hope things are changing and it's not just what I've seen

What is super annoying is posters assuming you can tell when they're being sarcastic. Sometimes it is clear from tone. But if I don't know a person, and clearly I don't because we're on the Internet here, how am I supposed to know?

EasternStandard · Yesterday 12:16

On the changing threads I think the same admonishment lingers around but they don’t really want barracks nearby to them so it’s a bit tricky.

And the leaflet is too uncomfortable, their own party but not great.

I think they hesitate to engage if they think they’ll be hugely outnumbered.

@EasternStandard I don't know

I did some digging into one in particular. I was surprised to find that there was a very active group of volunteers so people are still volunteering to help out with this stuff.

Sorry you've been so stressed. Hope things have improved for you.

I definitely think that things have genuinely changed on mn, at least on this issue. Its beyond plausible denial that there is a problem now. Although you do still see the odd one trying to pretend.

Yes its difficult to judge sarcasm in text sometimes, especially without an emoji to indicate when the poster is being a bit tongue in cheek.

Right, I need to stop waffling on here and do some jobs. Otherwise I'll be cleaning all flippin weekend.

I think you're right. On mn at least, they don't like it when these headlines come up. Like they'd prefer to keep it hushed up.

How bad is that though, if they know how bad it is, but want to ignore it because it hurts their political party? It shouldn't be about right v left. I despair for my dds. I don't want to go into details, but one of my dds has already suffered an incident last year because of this. Luckily, some men nearby intervened or it could have been much worse. Someone else also filmed it so we could prove it. Broad daylight, city centre, and still not safe. He was one of the recently arrived according to the police. He's probably back on the streets now doing the same thing.

It’s glad your DD is alright, I am sure she was shaken.

I have two DDs, young women now really, who are used to zipping around London at all hours without a care. It worries me. Life has changed.

SapphireCasino · Yesterday 12:37

@Nuthatch26 I am really sorry about your DD

What is the feeling in the local area? I have been amazed how many people don't know. I think if you go everywhere by car or if you live in a bubble as many people seem to do, it's too easy to dismiss it.

But there is this weird cognitive dissonance

So when I stopped being able to drive, one of the people who was very much the type to defend it suddenly became very concerned with always giving me a lift home if we were out together. So she knows damn fine what the issue is but she wants to pretend that she doesn't. I will never understand this.

Salt of the earth, that Rayner. Good honest Northern lass who fought the system aided by her dedication and grit and propelled herself to a senior political role by holding fast to strong values and unbending consistency.

Or…total fucking hypocrite who’s been a useful idiot for Starmer and is doing the same turn for Burnham.

On overseas aid, I expect it’s bullshit put about by Burnham to keep the ‘virtuous’ posers on the left of Labour happy. He knows we can’t spare £13bn a year.

Whilst I very much doubt AR has had a jot of influence on yet another revision of the National Planning Policy Framework published this week, it’s funny that when all local authorities, town and (in my voluntary role’s case) parish councils were getting their heads around the last revision back comes Mrs Baggy Pants and it changes again. If she’s charging so much for her input, she should think about the likes of us at the bottom of the pile doing it for diddly squat.

Thank you.

I'd say the feeling locally is that most people have had enough. Reform do well here, and I don't feel like I need to hide my views or bite my tongue. Quite different from what you've experienced locally. There are a lot of terraced houses being bought up and converted to HMOs nearby.

As to your last para, yes why pretend? I don't get it either.

Over 700,000 British men and women signed a let's deport them all petition for Rupert Lowe. That's a number not to be scoffed at. The government dare not issue a referendum.

My cousin told me about this. Thankfully the man has been arrested. I bet he has done this sort of thing before and got away with it.

It would be a slam dunk if there was a referendum.
Hopefully there will be some drastic proposals in the manifestos as the next GE. Labour were idiots to scrap Rwanda. Now look at them, two years in, issuing 'pretty please don't rape anyone' pamphlets.

"Myself and...", "Me and...", "a women" and many more instances of misuse of the English language is rife these days.

I dread to think how much further educational standards will fall if Powell gets her way.

(On an entirely different, personal and hopefully helpful note: I managed to get a curry stain on my favourite white linen shirt yesterday - and I can confirm hanging the unwashed shirt on the line in bright sunshine really does remove curry stains.)

'A women' is a standard iPhone autocorrect for some reason. Makes people look semi-literate!

Belated congratulations to @redange and @EasternStandard's DC for their excellent results.

NoWordForFluffy · Yesterday 17:04

Nuthatch26 · Yesterday 11:58

Excellent news on the curry stain 😁

Citric acid and sunshine will remove anything. I got red oil paint out of dd's pale trousers with it.

Napisan and sunshine work too. We do use citric acid for kettle descaling though, and it's brilliant. Versatile stuff!

Sorry to hear about your DD. I'm glad people intervened. Even that's not a certainty these days.

Yes good tip on Napisan. My sister uses it a lot for whites.

Thank you. Yes she was lucky.

A billionaire Labour backer is considering a return to the Conservatives after declaring that Kemi Badenoch is leading the “only electable party”.

John Caudwell, the founder of Phones 4u, has said he would back the Tories if they sought to lower taxes and exploit net zero as a growth driver.

Go on John, yes Labour are disappointing. It was a mistake to back them.

I was just writing a post about this. Some positive news for Kemi. Lord knows why he backed Labour at the last GE. He obviously fell for the growth lies.

Love how he described Burnham's policies as "piffle" 😂

Is there a gift/share/whatever they call it token available? I’d like to read that article.

It is always a big deal when very wealthy party backers switch allegiance. Rather more important than Jenrick jumping ship. By a million miles.
