A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 🥀

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Sorry to bring the mood down again, but Burnham has apparently announced he wants to boost foreign aid by £13 billion a year:

Sorry yes you're right, it's paywalled. Pretty much as the headline says though, debating increasing the aid budget back to 0.7%.

Exactly 😡

redange · 20/08/2026 20:18

We cant pay the Benefit Budget . Hence we have Reform having to do something with PIP which i have previously stated might be concerning has to who might suffer . However, what we absolutely cannot afford is more spending going to outside this country or on non UK Citizens. The Man is a complete 'Moron' who is sticking in his fingers in his ears, rather than attempt to understand the road to bankruptcy were are currently on.

redange · 20/08/2026 20:23

More appalling grammar from me . We as a country are currently on the road to bankruptcy but the amounts concerned are so high that a bailout from the IMF is not even likely. Instead we have a 'Socialist ' to he Dies advocating policies which would be highly questionable and placed low on a list in a economy that was going gang busters.

LuckyHazelFox · 20/08/2026 20:25

This is all so depressing.

SheepinWolfsdress · 20/08/2026 20:31

Lucky it hasn't happened yet ,we can't afford anything apparently and we can't defend ourselves and Russia is a threat nontheless.
I think a penny more going out of yhenuk when we are already supporting people via the boats etc would be an act of treason.

SapphireCasino · 20/08/2026 20:32

Reminds me of that conspiracy theory

It’s a race between France and Britain for bankruptcy, isn’t it? Except France are currently in a much worse position. So some people think they’re driving us to bankruptcy because the IMF can’t afford to bail out of us.

WildClover · 20/08/2026 20:38

Some excellent Gcse results here..Well done to your dc!

Nuthatch26 · 20/08/2026 20:46

Makes me ponder what promises Burnham made in order to become PM uncontested.

I’ve been avoiding the news

I’ve just heard about the illegals coming to shore at La Manga with seemingly no Coast Guard on duty? I may be wrong about the last bit.

This is what happens when you give amnesty!

Rayner is the gift that keeps on giving.

Angela Rayner, the Housing Secretary, took a £20,000 donation from an oil advisory group, The Telegraph can reveal.Despite previously criticising Conservatives for failing to “take on oil and gas giants”, Ms Rayner accepted the donation from Signum Global Advisors on July 8 this year to cover some of her staffing costs, according to the latest register of MPs’ financial interests.Opponents have accused Ms Rayner of hypocrisy for taking money from a firm that works closely with oil executives, after years of attacking oil and gas companies.

The only problem with the great GCSE results being that the Government might have to limit pupils to only two A levels each to save money and enable resources to pay Gemma Collins etc. Lucy Powell might think that to be an equitable, approach to abolishing the great educational divide between attaining 4 As at at A level and 1 grade 3 at GCSE.

That seems to be the point of Lucy Powell's appointment as Education Secretary: ' We the Government will outlaw the outlandish waste of resources in teaching four A Level Subjects to one Student'. We the Labour Government will always advocate, that the attainment of 4 A grade A Levels does not make your son/daughter any more suitable for undergraduate study, nor /employment within Higher Education, than a suitably appropriated individual with a solitary GCSE grade 4!

On the beach at the golf club someone filmed it. Not another boat in sight. The Spanish government aren't bothered.

Salt of the earth, that Rayner. Good honest Northern lass who fought the system aided by her dedication and grit and propelled herself to a senior political role by holding fast to strong values and unbending consistency.

Or…total fucking hypocrite who’s been a useful idiot for Starmer and is doing the same turn for Burnham.

On overseas aid, I expect it’s bullshit put about by Burnham to keep the ‘virtuous’ posers on the left of Labour happy. He knows we can’t spare £13bn a year.

The problem with capitalism is that the workers don’t have enough money to buy your crap products, so you go bust.

I think she's just outraged that we dare to want to keep anything we made for ourselves, instead of handing it all over to The Worthy Ones (TM)

Growth just means spending money other people have made, remember?

The problem with socialism is that no one has money to buy anything and there’s nothing in the shops anyway so everyone goes bust.

I'm pretty worried about how quickly the free movement agreement could collapse.

Would excluding Spain - as they already did temporarily - be enough to stop a complete collapse? What would that do to the EU? And would France have any chance of protecting that long land border?
