A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 🥀

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

The Iceland boss has been very quiet recently, funny that 😂

Quite the contrast to his pre-election stance.

I was just writing a post about this. Some positive news for Kemi. Lord knows why he backed Labour at the last GE. He obviously fell for the growth lies.

Love how he described Burnham's policies as "piffle" 😂

Billionaire Labour backer considers return to the Tories

Yep, "piffle" is a very accurate description of Burnham's so-called policies to date.

So far he's not demonstrated tangible leadership. When the recess is over he'll need to up his game to prove all the manoeuvring and fancy footwork by his supporters hasn't been in vain. I'm not holding my breath.

Yep, Burnham has only a week left to enjoy throwing sweeties in fairyland. Then he'll face some proper scrutiny at last. Can't wait. Although I'm not looking forward to Ed Davey doing the pick me dance at PMQs. Urgh.

Nonsense. Burnham’s policies are ambitious. He’s undertaking one of the most difficult tasks ever attempted by any government ever: to govern by taking all his ideas from On The Buses.

I almost looked for an On the Buses gif to post the other day, but I got distracted by work (silly busy!).

SapphireCasino · Yesterday 18:44

I don’t know if anyone here was a fan of the TV show Inside No 9, but all this is making me think of the mythical bus episode.

I see so little of Andy Burnham I don’t actually know anything about him and buses…. If I hadn’t read it here, I would have no idea. I still have no idea, but that’s okay. I clearly don’t need to know 😂

On the subject of telly box programmes, any suggestions please? I'm stuck in on my own tonight.

I couldn't find anything last night, ended up watching a super cheesy Korean drama thing on Netflix. It was so bad, yet strangely addictive. 😂Empress Ki I think it was called. There's an hour I won't get back.

@Nuthatch26 I was thinking of doing a rewatch of Tiptoe at some point - it should probably issue a trigger warning for the opening scene.

I didn't contribute to the thread here about it because I suspect left and right will have different ideas. And the most sympathetic character, to my mind, would probably upset most people.

The final episode goes horribly wrong, I think, but it's got some really good stuff in it. I think Russell T Davis has a very good way of structuring scripts and does excellent pacing.

I've just started watching something called Prime Numbers on Apple TV. I'd really like something funny and lighthearted, but the funny stuff is not really my taste these days. I love Emily in Paris, but a lot of people hate it here.

We’re really enjoying Southland atm on Netflix. It’s pretty old though so you may have seen it already.

I like “Home Town” on Netflix. A couple fix up homes in their hometown of Laurel Mississippi. Very watchable and relaxing. Houses sometimes for $15,000!

AndyKitten · Yesterday 19:47

Shameless,

Its quite old, but the American version is highly entertaining.

AndyKitten · Yesterday 19:47

I think it’s still on Netflix

Nuthatch26 · Yesterday 19:48

Ooh, haven't heard of any of those. Thanks all.

I've messaged a friend too, and she recommended Blackbird. Has anyone seen that?

Oh wow
I used to dream of having one of these houses with massive verandah and I thought I'd spend my (early) retirement sitting out there sipping margaritas and having enough land to not care if the local kids were on my lawn.

I wanted to go with my best friend, but she was completely horrified by the idea of moving to the middle of nowhere 😂

I'll join you, as long as I could sit in an old fashioned rocking chair.

@DinnerinfrontoftheTV love it!

now, do Booths deliver to the US? 😂 I’ve still never been to one tbh. Might have another trip up north this year, possibly, but I never end up near one.

redange · Yesterday 20:22

I was baffled when John Caudwell came out for Labour in 2024 and Rachel Reeves and a party who had Angela Raynor. I could not imagine John Caudwell employing either of them, never mind having them on a board of directors.

However, I think the backing had more to do with that John Caudwell has huge investments in 'Green Energy' and tech, rather than a conversion from Capitalism to Socialism. Caudwell though is the type who would leave the United Kingdom at 3pm on a Wednesday Afternoon and never return if that is how the land lies.

You need to head our way, or to the Lakes, or some parts of Yorkshire.

We have two Booths very close by. Bloody love it in there. If I win the lottery it'll be my supermarket of choice! 😁

SapphireCasino · Yesterday 20:41

@NoWordForFluffy one trip was Yorkshire, but it’s very big 😘
