A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 🥀

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Agree!
You ‘could’ lose benefits, ‘it ‘could’ affect your asylum claim
😡😡😡

Ikr!
Ludicrous, but really speaks to where we are right now. I'm sick of it. 🤬

It wasn't meant to be whataboutery, more 'we have enough of our own, why import more?' argument.

Sure, we could stop all immigration, but it wouldn't be great for our economy.

Ooorrrrr.... we could actually look at the statistics about which nationalities commit higher crimes at higher rates (per population: absolute numbers are obviously meaningless when the country has different numbers of each nationality).. and also which nationalities have higher levels of state dependency per population 10 years in versus tax-contribution.... and just... STOP immigration from those countries. Visas not issued (including family reunification), and asylum denied. Ground-breaking!

And stop pretending that everyone non-British is the same. Honestly, do you really not see how racist that is?

That's ok. I'm not disagreeing with anyone, but pp seem to think i am and that I am racist. I don't believe I said stop all immigration. (Sorry that not aimed at you AndyKitten)

RoseInAPot · Yesterday 09:16

I am always baffled by the assertion that 'stopping all immigration would be bad for the economy.'

Why?

Most recent immigrants place a huge burden on the economy; pressures on the NHS, housing, benefits, infrastructure etc. And yes, there are nationalities that are a particular burden, some not so much.

For everyone who says immigration brings financial benefits you can find someone who proves the opposite so goodness knows what is the bottom line.

Why don’t we have a moratorium for at least 2 years and see who or what we actually miss?

CandidLurker · Yesterday 09:38

I hated the use of the conditional tense in those booklet things. It shows very much where we are as a society. You can do some extremely bad things and it’s not definite you will receive any punishment, is what that says. Soft.

on a lesser scale I think the whole public sector writes in this very risk averse way. All my local council publications are written like this “envisage, plan to, may” etc etc. it’s never WILL. Also very much the passive tense too. No personal responsibility.

Why is this ok? On here you get the usual castigating women who mind these crimes.

Why?

It’s madness. Is it because of their beloved Labour or what

Completely agree.
The conditional tense is unlikely to be v accessible even to those who speak some English.
And typical public sector -type of writing by people who use words like ‘myself’, ‘yourselves’ etc instead of ‘me’and ‘you’.

The reality does not fit with their ideology. The alternative is to admit that they are wrong. In their heads, its all women, children and doctors fleeing a warzone.

Another story reported that a woman was attacked while star gazing.

Yes I read that article, her date held at knife point.

It’s not a price worth paying and I don’t get how anyone is convinced it is.

Perhaps because it happens to others. And might cause their party issues, and Labour mean more.

I think a lot of of us wouldn’t want to carry something that could be used against us though.

I remember when I could travel on the Tube without worrying so much… I could even wear jewellery! Local jeweller told me to be careful of my £50 watch, apparently it looks like a very expensive brand. I still haven’t figured out which one. And she said they have had reports of people being mugged for that kind of stuff because obviously someone will see it and just decide to do that, on the off chance it might be a real whatever they think it is.

@strawberrybubblegum I don’t know when or why society got like this.

I think you're right. On mn at least, they don't like it when these headlines come up. Like they'd prefer to keep it hushed up.

How bad is that though, if they know how bad it is, but want to ignore it because it hurts their political party? It shouldn't be about right v left. I despair for my dds. I don't want to go into details, but one of my dds has already suffered an incident last year because of this. Luckily, some men nearby intervened or it could have been much worse. Someone else also filmed it so we could prove it. Broad daylight, city centre, and still not safe. He was one of the recently arrived according to the police. He's probably back on the streets now doing the same thing.

Ah but maybe he didn’t have his pamphlet?

I agree - the left on here have been unusually non vocal about the GOVT pamphlet.

Worry about my DDs too. Crazy that this is now our reality.

"Myself and...", "Me and...", "a women" and many more instances of misuse of the English language is rife these days.

I dread to think how much further educational standards will fall if Powell gets her way.

(On an entirely different, personal and hopefully helpful note: I managed to get a curry stain on my favourite white linen shirt yesterday - and I can confirm hanging the unwashed shirt on the line in bright sunshine really does remove curry stains.)

That’s so worrying. I’m sorry to hear that.

I can imagine why loyalty to Labour is higher than those suffering from crimes but at least most votes on here re the leaflet etc are a high majority yanbu.

Yes, the pamphlet would have been really useful - not. 🙄
The Labour lot won't want to talk about the pamphlet.

@DancingFerret if it makes you feel any better, I got spaghetti bolognese on a nice shirt a couple of days ago, and I was wearing an apron…I cleaned it out immediately, so my spag bol got cold, but I can’t hang my washing out in the sunshine!

never mind, our clothes are saved! 🤗

Excellent news on the curry stain 😁

Citric acid and sunshine will remove anything. I got red oil paint out of dd's pale trousers with it.

Yes its good to see that the majority vote has changed on AIBUs.
The deniers are definitely in the minority these days - finally!
