Husband stuck in bathroom after door jammed, any tips to open it?

My husband is stuck in the bathroom - the door has jammed!

Does anyone know any tricks for unsticking doors?! I’ve tried googling but can’t work it out. He’s been in there over half an hour now.

Is it the lock?

If you spend lots of time on MN after 6 hours it magically opens 🪄 ✨.

Kick it down or take it off the hinges?

Can you slide a card down a latch? I remember that’s how my grandad got me out when I was younger

How is it jammed? Is the door itself swollen and stuck or has something happened to the catch/ handle

Inward opening door? He needs to hold the handle in the open position (so that the latch isn't engaged in the door frame) then you use brute strength to push the door inwards, preferably without knocking him over.

I think it’s the latch that is stuck. We’ve tried sliding a card down.

What happens when you try the handle? Does the latch just not move?

Try with your shoulder, should put your whole body weight behind it.

Just kick it a few times it’s only a bathroom lock. Why on earth was he using a lock at home anyway

Describe the problem in more detail. Eg Has it slipped on its hinges? If so, push the door up using the handle and then push hard.

It’s not locked it’s the latch it won’t budge

Screwdriver, take off handle and manually twist the bolt.

Take handle off and see if you can get the latch in from the mechanism?

We’ve taken the handle off and it still won’t budge

I can’t see the hinges from my side

Believe it or not I have a lot of experience with broken door latches 😁

If you have taken the handle off do you now have a square hole?

I’ve squirted WD40 and I have an array of screwdrivers and a drill
