Husband stuck in bathroom after door jammed, any tips to open it?

My husband is stuck in the bathroom - the door has jammed!

Does anyone know any tricks for unsticking doors?! I’ve tried googling but can’t work it out. He’s been in there over half an hour now.

Put the square thing back in and push the handle back on so the square thing is in it then turn the handle so the latch can turn.

Sometimes the square thing gets dislodged as a bit too short to sit securely in both handles

i know folk are saying to take the door off the hinges - but the hinges may not be visible/accessible with the door closed……
I asked my DH and he suggested that if you can’t turn the square shaped bit, to maybe take that out and use a flat screwdriver (biggest you can fit in) as that will give you more torque to try and move the latch….good luck!!

Keep looking for pliers, if you know you own some they must be somewhere!

I hope you manage to open the door so he doesnt have to spend all night in there.

He says he can’t work out how to pop the hinges. His DIY skills are non existent

Take off the handle, just needs a screwdriver

Posting in solidarity. I keep putting off getting the bathroom done. Twice now we haven’t been able to open the door as the solid bath panel (out of place) has slipped, blocking the opening.

Both times ended up cutting a hole in the door using a drill then electric saw..

Or take the pin out of the hinges…but might be hard to do without a screwdriver if the hinges are on the side he is stuck on.

Call the fire brigade?

I normally try turning the handle but I've been called quirky before.

Call the fire brigade?

Yes definitely call emergency tax payer funded services to get an able bodied functioning grown man out of a bathroom, where he is in no danger

Definitely.

Rather than a locksmith

But how?

WearyAuldWumman · Today 00:20

Thank you for the update. I'm betting DH needs a cup of tea now.

DoorJam · Today 00:20

Found the pliers and passed them through to DH and he had enough grip strength to turn the square bit while we pushed the door towards the hinges

Reminds me of the time I got stuck in the loo (a self-contained room rather than a cubicle) at dialysis centre I go to regularly. By the time people got me out there were about four firefighters and four of the staff outside; I felt like one of those miners who got trapped for weeks in Chile some years ago!

Thanks for all the suggestions! That was a stressful hour.
