Husband stuck in bathroom after door jammed, any tips to open it?

My husband is stuck in the bathroom - the door has jammed!

Does anyone know any tricks for unsticking doors?! I’ve tried googling but can’t work it out. He’s been in there over half an hour now.

Yes definitely call emergency tax payer funded services to get an able bodied functioning grown man out of a bathroom, where he is in no danger

Definitely.

Rather than a locksmith

Who are a bit preoccupied putting out wildfires.

My first instinct was that he'd done it on purpose - got 'trapped' for 5minutes peace 😆

I really need to get myself locked in a bathroom at some point during the summer holidays for this reason...

And if I do, and DP comes looking for advice here, do not help him

I'm glad he is out, but I also don't understand the Australian thing about lifting the door off the hinges? Surely if you try and lift the door you can't because the door frame is right on top of it?

Ive just looked this up, its for bathrooms and toilets and the doors open outwards, not inwards so that someone who has fallen cant block the doorway

It seems that perhaps there isnt a door frame on the outside? I cant see pictures

Also it wont work apparently if its locked from the inside anyway.

They have those doors on toilets in schools. The door slots into the hinges from above and so does the lock, so you can lift the whole door up and off, even if it's locked on the inside.

I discovered that when I worked in a primary school and a five year old boy kicked the door. It shot up and off the hinges. Couldn't believe my eyes! Thankfully no one was hurt.

I am in Australia. My bathroom doors open inwards and there doesn’t appear to be lift off hinges, as I just tried and failed. So I’m not sure if that info is correct.

We will need a code word for him to quote in case it is some other hapless DP of an Mner who does want to be released from her bathroom.
Just covering all the bases 😊

Glad he's out!

We were at a hotel in Sarasota a few years back, and DH needed the loo at 2 am. The door was totally stuck. We called reception and they sent up this giant Swedish handyman. He tried a few different tools on the latch - no joy. Finally he just smashed it in. Quite a night.

Yupstillhere · Today 02:03

This happened to me, the door handle was old and starting to break. I forgot and went to bed shutting the door behind me.
I woke up for the loo at four in the morning and couldn't open the door. I was home alone, fortunately I had my mobile phone with me. Called DD who was out clubbing, amazingly she answered. She was having a little fresh air break. I told her no rush etc but I didn't really feel like that.
I felt claustrophobic and panicky. I couldn't look at the door whilst I was waiting for her, it was too stressful. She jumped in a taxi and told the driver what had happened. I heard her come into the house and she was trying different tools etc. The way the latch is fitted on the door it make it impossible to open with a bank card etc. Anyway she somehow got the door open. I burst into tears (went for a wee) and needed to go and stand outside for a while. I often don't totally shut my door at night as I don't trust it.

I'm so glad he's out. Well done.

And on bathroom doors in psychiatric wards as I found when I thought I had safely locked myself in there 🤷‍♀️
