Just putting it out there to see responses…

What would be your age limit for having more kids/kids?

I am 40 next year and just don’t know….

OP posts:
YoQuieroVino · 06/08/2026 19:03

For me my limit was 35, but I have lots of friends who have had children older than that and all seem happy and thriving. My cousin had hers at 46.

Gengha · 06/08/2026 19:06

I would in theory have stopped at 40, but in reality I was all done at 35.

pimplebum · 06/08/2026 19:06

Had my second and last at 45 using frozen ivf embryos

v heathy pregnancy, birth and baby

the blood test in the uk tells you 💯 yes or no for downs and Edward's syndrome hence 99 % abortion rate and eugenic eradication of these people which us an ethical issue

your health and finances pension work life balance family support

Alwayschillyatnight · 06/08/2026 19:06

I had my final one at 31 and now I'm 43 theres no way I could cope with having a toddler or small baby, but more power to your elbow if you reckon you can handle it!

Mrscharlieeeee · 06/08/2026 19:12

Mine was 35, had my first at 30 and last at 34. I’m 42 now and no way could I imagine having a baby now.

FlapperFlamingo · 06/08/2026 19:14

I had mine at 36. Honestly i would not have wanted to be any older.

AnneLovesGilbert · 06/08/2026 19:16

I’d have stopped ttc at 40 I think, I ended up having a baby just before I turned 40. Hard to be sure though.

Theonewhogotthecake · 06/08/2026 19:16

Had my oldest at 35. I’m 42 now and there is no way I’d have another now. My personal imaginary cut off was 40.

Berlinlover · 06/08/2026 19:17

Over 35 is too old.

MidnightPatrol · 06/08/2026 19:18

I l know lots of women where I live who had their first aged 40-45!

My personal cut off is 40 because I’m conscious I will want to retire at some point and hopefully in
my 50s…

Treetreetreetree · 06/08/2026 19:20

I had my last at 38. All good.

Mumwithbaggage · 06/08/2026 19:20

Oldest just before my 30th birthday, youngest just before my 40th (3 close together then a gap). I'm 62 now and my youngest is 22 - she has loads of friends with parents the same age. I don't feel old and never felt too old to do things with her. It's just the way it happened. Never thought I'd have 4 children as an only child!

Savvysix1984 · 06/08/2026 19:21

I’m 43 with a 15 year old so I wouldn’t want another now. But if I didn’t have any and really wanted one then I still think I’m young enough. I’m fitter, slimmer, healthier than I was 10 years ago plus financially much better off.

TBF though at all points in my life I’ve looked at people with babies and thought ‘oh my god I couldn’t do that’ but when you’re doing it… it’s manageable.

Pistachiocake · 06/08/2026 19:25

Varies! A gynae said 25 would be his ideal (in a consultation after I'd lost babies in my 30s), but agreed that many women get pregnant far later-I know a few in their 40s and one 50s. Theoretically, you're more likely to have help and support if you're younger, but things don't always work that way, so my answer would be I couldn't put a number on it.

mondaytosunday · 06/08/2026 19:38

I had mine at 41 and 43. Didn’t feel too old. My friend had hers at 46 after being married 17 years and figuring it wasn’t meant be then boom! I know others who had their last at 40/1/2 and another at 45. All felt fine no regrets. Only one by IVF (not the 45 year old). Our kids are now all in their 20s.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 06/08/2026 19:39

I think as long as you are heathy then follow what nature intended.

Ek1234 · 06/08/2026 19:40

We're a same sex couple who did IVF for our DC , I had our eldest at 35, my DW had our youngest at 39 , we have considered having more children, but our girls are 18 months and 3 years and tbh we both think we're too old to have another, although that is probably because we are both exhausted with two young DDs!

Springbuck · 06/08/2026 19:42

I had my first at 27, second at 39 then adopted the third at 46. No regrets at all. The youngest is 19 now and I really believe having a late baby has motivated me to stay as fit and youthful as possible.

gamerchick · 06/08/2026 19:43

34 for me. That pregnancy was hard work.

Thing is. Nobody can answer that for you OP.

purpleme12 · 06/08/2026 19:45

I'm 41 and I could definitely have a baby now still

Wouldn't want to go higher than early 40s though!

DramaAlpaca · 06/08/2026 19:45

My own personal cut off was 35 but I had my third and last at 33.

I have friends and relatives who didn't start families until their 40s, it's up to the individuals really. No judgement from me.

BeeHive909 · 06/08/2026 19:47

Always hate these threads because you always get the mums going oh 35 is too old. No it’s not and plenty of mums don’t have the choice to have a kid before. If you believe you can have a baby you can at any age.

YoQuieroVino · 06/08/2026 19:47

I’m 41 and I definitely couldn’t 😂. I mean, I am healthy and active and would be absolutely fine with pregnancy/a newborn/toddler etc, but the thought of having a 16 year old when I’m 57 fills me with dread.
We’re all different though.

ohfook · 06/08/2026 19:50

I had one at 40 and wouldn't change a thing I don’t feel too old. If anything it’s made me feel like a young 40. However it looks like my eldest is going to hit puberty, I’m skidding into perimeno and the baby is hitting the terrible twos all at a similar time - so possibly in six months I may have a very different answer for you!
