Just putting it out there to see responses…

What would be your age limit for having more kids/kids?

I am 40 next year and just don’t know….

I’d have been fine up to 50, after that too tired.

No one in my family dies before 90 so 40 years of having a mum would have been ok (ish).

My one and only was born 36+4 after my 40th birthday (I blame the White Port in Lisbon that night!). Seriously, 42 would have been be my cut off.

It's entirely up to you. My sister in law had her first at 41, she hadn't felt ready/ met the right person prior to that.

I think if you want it and are healthy enough/ have a support network then go for it.

VeIvetHeart · 07/08/2026 17:46

I felt amazing at 41, fit, full of beans. By 47, meno hit and oof. Something to consider.

Everyone is different. I had my 4th at 28 and knew no more. Whereas friends are having babies now and I'm almost 40! I'm glad I had all mine young as I simply don't have the energy now

Whilst I can't answer for ChocoLuv, I think they are saying a sibling relationship when the age gap is more than eight years is just, well, not a typical sibling relationship, and a bit odd - children are at vastly different stages and won't have much in common. Especially if they are half-siblings and not raised for the most part in the same home.
IME with friends I've experience of with similar setups ,the older child is generally back to square one of life revolving around a new addition, holidays planned around the needs of the baby/toddler, when their peers are going on family trips more suitable for a nine/ten/11 year old, they are stuck in a crappy caravan holiday on the south coast because a) less money and b) baby's needs/parents want something easier now they have a baby.
It's not at all the same as a gap of 2-5 years, when the older child is still so little themselves.

I don’t agree with this one bit. Kids could be two years apart and have nothing in common - I am much closer to my sister who is eight years younger than me than my sister who is two years younger. Also the fact you say it is ‘odd’ is just tone deaf and ignorant. Some people may have been trying since their first child was two and faced miscarriages etc and it’s taken that long to conceive.

I won’t be stuck in a ‘crappy caravan’ if I have another baby.

I have siblings who are 14 and 17 years younger get than me and we get on really well. Maybe it’s not a “normal sibling relationship” - whatever that is! - but it’s good so what does it matter?

Jamtomorrowneverjamtoday · 08/08/2026 16:46

also @VelvetHeart re caravan holidays… it was always the other way round for us. The young ones mostly tagged along on holidays of activities for us old sibling, and they have very fond memories of it!

I guess it depends how attached people are to being typical or conventional. Most family set ups can work.

Gave birth to my second days before my 43rd birthday. That is my limit. I had actually given up trying for a second and a few weeks later found out I was pregnant.

Ta2025 · 08/08/2026 17:02

I had my first at 26 and second at 32. They were both difficult to conceive. I'm nearly 40 now and we have just made the decision to start using contraception for the first time ever because even though I would have loved more the time has passed for us now and I feel I'm too old. If I hadn't got my 2 I would have kept trying for longer, but right now I'm just very grateful for what I have.

Doyouknowdanieltiger · 08/08/2026 17:05

Mine was 35, I had my youngest age 34. Im exhausted compared to when I had me eldest (18).
