Just putting it out there to see responses…

What would be your age limit for having more kids/kids?

I am 40 next year and just don’t know….

It's really personal isnt it. I was done at 2 at 24. I'm 40 now and it's my idea of. nightmare to have a baby now. If I wasn't on the Freedom Express and had a 2yo for example I'm sure that I would feel differently. I'm far from over the hill and I'm sure that you are too.

Tambora · 06/08/2026 19:54

I got married at 21. Had my first (and only) dc at 36. Did I wait that long on purpose? No. When you've been struggling to conceive for that many years, you take what you're given. That's why I don't much like threads like this one.

Over 35 is too old.

I agree

blackrabbitwhiterabbit · 06/08/2026 20:00

Had mine at 40 and I'm knackered! I work and study too.

Italiangreyhound · 06/08/2026 20:01

I had my son at almost 40. How many do you want? How many do you have?

Betadelta · 06/08/2026 20:06

I had my youngest at 35. I think I'd have stopped TTC if it hadn't happened within a year or two, so I guess my personal upper limit was 37 ish. We're all different though.

Hadalifeonce · 06/08/2026 20:07

1st at 42, 2nd at 45.

Minasama · 06/08/2026 20:08

Your body will answer this question for you.

I had my last at 41 - the only thing I would note is that it has pushed my retirement age later! My friends’ kids are all 18+ but I’ll still have a child at uni (if they go) in 10 years!

Bluffingwithmymuffin · 06/08/2026 20:11

It's very individual and personal. I have friends who had kids in their 20s and really struggled and still struggle now as they are having to build up careers in their 40s. But some are enjoying freedom in their 40s and I am very jealous of them! Equally I know people who had children in their 40s and love it.

I had my kids in my 30s and had a cut off of 40 so I that can retire at 60. That was a perfect balance for me as I had an established career before having children which I have continued to progress within, I'm financially comfortable but healthy and fit enough to deal with the demands of young children.

notacooldad · 06/08/2026 20:13

I had my last at 35.
I feel like it was too old tbh and wished I'd started 10 years younger like dh wanted to.

BtwixtNBtween · 06/08/2026 20:19

Had my second (final) a fortnight before I was 31.
Every one is different.

chocoluv · 06/08/2026 20:19

For me it’s not about age (although I think over 45 is not fair on the child).

It’s more about the age of the other children.

Once they reach like 8 there is no point having another baby and I think for many women it’s about trying to hold on to their identity if all they’ve known is being a mother.

Justonegirl · 06/08/2026 20:20

but the thought of having a 16 year old when I’m 57 fills me with dread

I loved it. I love having a 22 year old at 63.

Those of you saying "35 is too old," what would you have done if you'd got to 34 and not had a child? Just decided never to be a mum?

inkgirl · 06/08/2026 20:21

Im 38 and wanting to do it again

One of work colleagues had her first child at age 46 - natural pregnancy. I think it largely depends on your health and lifestyle.

MrsMoastyToasty · 06/08/2026 20:25

When menopause happens. Although I was done at 39.
A friend had her 6th DC at 49 . Her 1st DC was 25 at the time (full siblings).

Saintsgirl7 · 06/08/2026 20:25

I had my first at 41, I'm nearly 44 and I'd still have another.
If this thread tells you anything it's that it's a personal choice.

Mine was 35, had my first at 30 and last at 34. I’m 42 now and no way could I imagine having a baby now.

I think once you’ve had kids and gone through the milestones the thought of going through it all again can be a big fat no! If you’ve not had any children yet then starting late 30s, early 40s doesn’t come with that never again feeling. I had both of mine in my early 40s and all the milestones were just as exciting as if I had been 30. Now my kids are adult I find myself looking at mums of babies and toddlers and thinking thank god that’s not me anymore. I’m always amazed at women who have grown kids then go through it all again with another baby, kudos to them.

wishfulthinking25 · 06/08/2026 19:59

I agree

Do you think Taylor Swift is too old to have a baby, or Margot Robbie having another?

RoseandGrace · 06/08/2026 20:33

I’m 33 and pregnant with my 3rd but it’s took us 6 years and a round of IVF to get here (male factor) my other two are 15 and 12 .. I’m very much aware I’m older this time round and couldn’t imagine doing this in 10 years time so hats off to the women that do!

JustMyView13 · 06/08/2026 20:33

It’s not something I’d actively consider for myself beyond 40. But I say that without judgement for those where they do x

Huskysledging · 06/08/2026 20:35

41 was number 2. I had one at 34.

Yeah like I said in that same post, we’re all different! My cousin had one at 23 and one at 46, she’s happy and so are her kids, so I’d never say that anyone else was too old to have a baby.
The OP was asking for individual views.

Madisnttheword · 06/08/2026 20:40

I was done at 21 with 3 kids. I wouldn't have wanted to be older than 25 to have my last

That’s an interesting take - why would there be no point in having a baby once another child turns 8?!
