For what it's worth, I think the public toilet thing is a bit of a distraction. A man who wants to can claim to be a trans woman or a trans man depending on the law. But there are other situations (prisons, abuse shelters, rape counselling services) where it does really matter, at times, that the people providing a service or sharing the space are of the same biological sex. Most trans woman and trans men for that matter don't intend harm, but if it's purely open to selfID bad actors can, and have, gamed the system. For closed spaces like prisons or for (eg) police personnel doing strip searches or nurses/doctors the biological sex of the service user and employee is known. And actually putting a male rapist in a women's prison risks harm to those women. The law needs to distinguish between women/men sometimes.

I agree with this. I remember going to Rape Crisis when processing the trauma of my childhood CSA. I really needed to speak to a biological woman at that time.

I’ve never been bothered about toilets, or changing rooms for that matter.

At the many Army Navy games I’ve been to men have invited women to use their loos because otherwise the queues and short interval would mean missing a lot of the second half. An added bonus is that those of us who weren’t squeamish whipped in and out at the speed of light, unlike some who spent about ten minutes in the Ladies’ cubicles.

I have done the same at gigs in the past.

I did it at Cardiff Arms Park back in the day

BestIsWest · 31/07/2026 21:53

I’ve done in the Principality.

Returning back the this, if we remove compulsory voting, or my idea that to win you have to poll at least 50% of the electorate, then what does the thread think about the idea of somehow (details TBC) requiring a minimum of *say) 50% turnout for a candidate to be returned ?

Because being lectured by 75% of an electorate tends to irritate.

What happens if not enough people vote though? Do you keep the incumbent in post while you have another election, and another, and another, until enough people turn out to vote? Or do you leave the post empty?
How would you compel people to vote or punish non-voters?

cardibach · 31/07/2026 22:01

At Cabaret at the KitKat Club the toilets are labelled ‘cubicles’ and ‘urinals’.

And that is not rock bottom apathy. 15% turnout, here.

Great news.

I've just watched the clip - did the returning officer just pronounce Sian as 'Si-ann'??

The final result

I think it goes to show reform’s popularity is massively overstated.

I looked at comments on a post on Facebook. Lots of ‘why was there a second count?’ From people who don’t understand the two round system. Lots of ‘Labour changed the system weeks ago so they could win’ - a) untrue, they changed it back to this a while ago and b) Labour would have som under FPTP anyway and some ‘where were the boxes kept overnight? No 10 North?’ From people who can’t accept. reform loss at all.
Plus comments that because Bev has short hair they can ‘see where this is going’. Appalling all round really.

Have a good hols @DuncinToffee
