Hmm.i think I fit the drifting idea. I agree I was attracted to the Greens because of their honest left wing ness. . And Polanski has actually pulled a lot of young voters in so Id like to see that focus group data. Unlike many on MN, I like him. Green leadership before was so shy.

Starmer's Labour was off putting to me.

SerendipityJane · 31/07/2026 17:05

Martin Lewis with some very sage advice

He is batting for the "just aboves" - which is where he feels the anger against Starmer (as opposed to disappointment) stemmed from.

MNHQ always deny that the site is not vulnerable to 'outside influences' but some of the posting today has engendered some real fear and anxiety - as well as the usual mis/dis-information/racism and general bat-shittery

Over 48,300 people have returned from Ceuta to Morocco.

About 1,700 people are still in Ceuta.

And Italy closed their border with Spain.

I think the question we really need to worry about is has it adversely affected the profits ? I mean who is the site being run for ? (See also:X)

And let's not forget the cyclical resentment and hostility towards the disabled/long-term sick, which I think is also stirred up by certain "outside influences".

That Visegrad is being posted a lot on the 'scared about men entering Spain' thread

Polanski is good at social media. He’s also a self confessed populist so I can’t begin to support him. He also makes a lot of unforced errors. I really, really dislike him and dont trust him.

Ironically I might now have voted Green if the party was still under Caroline Lucas and focussed on environmental issues. But not with the identity pololitics it seems to be focussed on (obsessed with?) now.

Piggywaspushed · 31/07/2026 18:40

Well, I'm OK with so called identity politics... and Labour have been scared to adopt any position at all.

I would be REALLY suspicious of anyone who posts crap from that account. If they have enough of a brain to write posts on MN they will know full well that account is set up to spread disinformation and hate.

I’d have voted Green when Carla Denyer was co leader. She’s very credible. Maybe they’ll do better when Polanski steps down, they don’t keep leaders long.

I'd vote Green to keep Reform out. But I've never really been able to take them seriously.

Who remembers Jonathan Porritt ? And his bike ?

This is being studiously ignored on certain threads. It would spoil their fun.

I don't have a problem with a recognition that certain groups in society are disadvantaged because of their membership of that group, and that there are observable patterns of reduced likelihood to achieve certain outcomes for certain groups. Its a matter of fact not opinion. I also don't have a problem with equity and levelling up measures for these groups. In fact I strongly support it.
I do have a problem with extreme Liberalism masquerading as 'the left' because unless something benefits the greater good its not 'my left'.
Luckily I believe that IP mostly does benefit the greater good if it helps talented people rise to benefit society who would have been otherwise overlooked.

BIWI · 31/07/2026 18:53

TBH I would never have voted Green. Environmental stuff (whilst very worthy and truly important) is more of a philosophy and doesn't cover any of the other important stuff that Government has to deal with.

I think their appeal recently has been the perception that they are somehow more 'genuinely left' than the Labour party. A short-term appeal, it would seem.

Yes, I would if it came to it. Though as we're in a heavily Tory area, possibly with Reform leanings, we might have to contemplate voting Tory as the least worst option to keep Reform out 🫣. Sad state of affairs when voting becomes voting against something rather than for something... She is at least a good MP.

I don't like Polanski. And on identity politics, I wish everyone on all sides of the various divides would just stop screaming and start talking how we can make the world work for everyone. I'm the parent of a trans young adult so I'm kind of in the thick of it and I despair of the extremists on both sides.

Maybe just maybe they went en masse for a big swim and back.

Italy is suspending Schengen with Spain is a headline news item that's just that. It can't happen.

The screaming won't stop because a gain for someone is a loss for someone else.

Except it isn’t I reality. Politics is rarely a zero sum game.
