I'll kick off with:

"What temperature should I wash my sheets and towels at?"

He'd been there 9 months.

@seashaken - that's brilliant! Doesn't necessarily mean he's never washed them before - just that they didn't turn out well.

'What do you do with kale?' was my all-time favourite.😁

My dd informed me that her washing machine has a steam program when I asked her what temperature she washes her sheets and rowels🤢. When I asked if she’s steaming her dirty towels she unconvincingly said no, no, I just wash in whatever program comes on first.

It amazes me that some adults just call mum and dad rather than google something. This a generation who are always on their phones.

although my brother is 40 and still calls my parents when he has any problem because they didn’t tell him from a young age to try and work something out for himself.

To be fair, "What temperature should I wash my sheets at" is the sort of question that you google, and get 18 different answers (including a couple of threads on Mumsnet where both sides think the other are the antichrist)

I was an avid googler even 20 years ago when I was in uni, but thats the sort of thing I'd have asked my Mum if I didn't know already.

TigerRag · Today 15:59

Not a call or text but my mum went to my sister's student house not long after she'd moved in. One of her friends thought the washing machine was broken because she couldn't open the door just after it had stopped. She was told to leave it a few minutes and she can open it

Breadlegs · Today 16:02

Answering these questions is our only shot at immortality. For generations the washing temperature advice will be passed down parent to child. That's your mark on this world. Sorry it wasn't like the taj Mahal or something, but it's quite impressive.

We have an all singing/dancing washing machine that can be connected to the WiFi should you wish to. Too many programmes to count. How many do we use? One, the one that says ‘mixed load’. It’s not failed me yet!

DD was once making jelly and though the 1/2 pint meant you could add one or two pints. It didn’t set surprisingly as she went for as much jelly as possible…She was only about 7 though and hadn’t come across fractions written down!

8 in the accommodation.
'We can't get the cooker to work. We've tried everything'
'Have you pressed the big switch on the wall'
'erm ...... '
worked a treat after they switched it on!

DBro and his Uni housemates were doing their first Sunday roast (pre internet). He rang me to ask if he needed to put the veg on to boil at the same time as the chicken went into the oven to roast.

In fairness, he is now long-graduated, happily married with kids and an absolute master of the roast. His Christmas dinners are epic.

I agree with this. And when I was a teen you had a few settings, now you have a million and it is confusing!

I'm another 'mixed load'er. It's inclusive!

Is Chicken like streak, can I eat it medium rare?

MyKindHiker · Today 16:21

I called my dad because there was a mouse. I don't know what I expected him to do about it as my uni was hundreds of miles away.

Yellowpapersun · Today 16:24

My eldest was at Univ. and rang me sounding terrified. He and his flatmates had been threatened with eviction due to excessive noise. He was hoping for sympathy but instead he got a good telling off. I made him promise to go round to the other residents in the block and apologise and then I spoke to the letting agent who thanked me for taking it so seriously! He was warned that if it happened again he was coming home, univ. was over and he'd have to get a job. He behaved himself after that.

Justploddingonandon · Today 16:25

TBF when I was at uni the cleaners changed the bedsheets and washed them for you, no idea if that's still a thing. It did make it very awkward if you did have any reason to wash them yourself though.

Kittkats · Today 16:27

DD rang me to say she was stuck in the lift. She apparently rang me instead of pushing the alarm button because she didn’t want the engineers to see her in her pyjamas (she’d just been to empty the bin)

AlwaysGardening · Today 16:34

Is my mince off? From a couple of hundred miles away. Other one was that the electrics had tripped a fuse in the kitchen. Again hard to fix from a distance.

No Smellyvision? 🤣

Not at uni but visiting Grandma, 150 miles away: 'Where's my jacket?'
I'm not saying he's predictable, but I knew exactly where it would be, and it was.
