Have also got to say (apart from the lack of sleep last night - got home at 2am), my son doesn’t seem to suffering from the heat the same way as me. He has very sweetly tried to shut doors and windows to try and keep our portable air con helping my bedroom as much as possible.

I really, really do hate this heat!

I could tolerate the odd heatwave years ago, but this is something else.
I am making Dh fed up with the whinging

Am very relieved we have this thread to whinge on because most people I know - or at least the vocal ones - are seemingly enjoying it. Which makes me despair because why aren’t they worried about climate change at the very least?!

I agree and I think the effect of what we've done to this planet is insidious. I remember when I was growing up in the eighties, summer was max 25'c. 30'c was only seen on a rare occasion in Kent. Now, it's commonplace and it literally terrified me!

I feel quite anxious in anything above 26 degrees. I don’t know if it’s my body responding to the heat - faster heart beat, sweating, sleeplessness - but it’s almost like the symptoms of a panic attack (though nothing like as severe.) I don’t enjoy this at all. Back down to 25 would be fine, thank-you very much

Also I remember giving birth in late June, summer of 2014. We had a heatwave like this. It was horrible on that ward. The heat. The cloying heat and the stuffiness. I had a trauma birth, couldn’t move for the pain. Had baby on my chest. Sticky, sleep-deprived, anxious, post-partum. Trying to establish breast feeding in the early days of recovery - in the bastard heat. Baby just would not latch. At all. He was clearly dehydrated and cried a lot. I was an anxious mess. In the end they took him off me and gave him a bottle

This time of year probably makes me anxious for a reason - the heat is a bit triggering actually

Damp muslin cloths, much better than a wet flannel for cooling down as air gets through it a bit which makes it feel colder & a misting bottle - have one with me all the time has really helped both me and my baby!

It gets the sun all day and the windows barely open. Just so hot! My poor class. We’ve been out in the spinney for the afternoons this week. I’m not risking their health being in the classroom.

That puts my classroom being too hot in to perspective. That really is truly awful. Poor you and poor baby. I’m not surprised you find the heat still makes you anxious.

In London and feel like I am losing my mind. Sweating through my clothes, constant showers, dog hates it, kids won’t sleep. Was up until gone 2am last night with the youngest.

It is just relentlessly fucking awful. On so many fronts.

The feeling of being trapped and just having to endure it - reminds me of Covid.

Saw someone on the news banging on about water shortages. Its not bloody rocket science If air con was fitted as standard less water would be used.

I need to stop obsessively checking the weather apps as it’s really not helping. Does anyone know when the fuck it’s meant to cool down? (I’m in south east). Please someone give me hope 🙏

Agreed re feeling trapped. It’s so oppressive and not knowing when it will end gives me the fear.

I hate it, I have a skin condition that means my hands and arms are bandaged up so like wearing permanent long sleeves and mittens. I also have to wear a long sleeve coat for work (lollipop lady), and being a shortarse it goes down past my knees.

Never thought I’d say this but thank goodness I felt ill yesterday and tested positive for Covid so not back at work until Monday.

I know the NHS is struggling but it always blows my mind that hospitals have no air con. Sorry you had to suffer and such a worry about babies dehydrating.

How can it be a good thing for seriously ill people, babies, people recovering from operations to be in searing heat?

My upstairs is 30.5 degrees. I have truly had enough.

It's 19C here right now, (outside,) and feeling pleasant in the garden, but the bedroom is so stuffy, and 26C! Humidity 80%!!! The air is so thick!

Tomorrow is due to be 34-35C! 😩

• 6kW unit in 50m² kitchen/diner/lounge.
• 3.5kW unit in the loft.
• 2kW units in two bedrooms.

We're playing to get the fifth unit installed before next summer.

Bedroom is 29c - just no!
Seems to be the hottest evening tonight. Dh was talking about going to his office to sleep which has air con 😝
im going to have to look in to solutions tmw to keep the rooms less like ovens..

we live in London but we were in an Airbnb last night for our son’s graduation (outside of London) and it was much cooler. Prob the best sleep I had in a couple of weeks.

I am so glad i found this thread, I am bloody hating this weather so much that I yelled "fuck off you stupid cow" at the woman doing the telly weather forecast when she was grinning away and talking about "warm weather with plenty of sunshine" instead of saying it is going to be like a burning pit of hell. Got up at 6.30 am to wash the kichen and back room floor before it became unbearably hot and got to Aldi early for the same reason. Washed my hair this afternooon, the bloody shampoo was warm due to the sun pounding in through the bathroom window. I am so hot i can think properly or remember things that need doing. Neighbour's kids have been playing and shrieking from 5pm til gone 10pm god knows where they find the energy in the heat . It is going to cool down on Sunday apparently but I bet it will be back again. I honestly want to punch anyone who says its only Summer and to enjoy it !

The carpet on my landing feels warm underfoot! it is just horrible

Does it cost a lot to run? Also, what is the energy rating? I saw one which was A++ but does that mean it’s better for the environment or more economical? It’s a maze of information to make sense of but I can’t face heat like this all the time.

My radiator in the bathroom is warm as though the heating is on! Obviously it isn’t but that shows how hot it is tonight. My cats haven’t even been in for food, they’re just sprawled on the cooler brick floor of the driveway. My elderly DM says she feels as though she cannot breathe due to the stuffy air.
