Really tempted to book a local hotel tomorrow night to benefit from the Aircon!

Netcurtainnelly · 09/07/2026 23:25

Dint worry it will soon be winter then everyone will be saying it's too cold.😱

ConstantlyFuriosa · 09/07/2026 23:27

I never say it’s too cold; ever. It’s much easier to get warm than it is to get cool, too.

At least here the humidity isn’t high so I can breathe properly unlike a couple of weeks ago or so

friedaklein · 09/07/2026 23:58

My third night of no sleep. In my patch of London, the heat feels like a clammy blanket. Going to go to my local library tom for the aircon and may grab a nap there!

Can literally feel the humidity climbing up in My area - so much so that I looked it up because I was really puzzled. We're supposed to reach 94% at some point in the middle of the night. No wonder I could literally feel it. One of the neighbours messaged me and asked me why it was getting hotter at 10 pm. It's obviously not getting hotter, but it feels like it because it's so humid.

it's like somebody kidnapped half the country and moved it somewhere else.

Apparently the Travel Lodge in our town is fully booked with locals for the aircon!

If I didn’t have my dog I would do the same. If this happens again this summer I will chuck us all in the car and drive up north or to the seaside.

I moved down south from the north after uni as I couldn’t cope with the colder weather up there. Slightly regretting that decision now!

Another night of poor sleep. I’ve been feeling tired and lightheaded for weeks now and pretty sure it’s not safe for me to be out in case I collapse. I can’t do this anymore. I’m exhausted and the thought of working in all this heat today fills me with dread.

Delatron · 10/07/2026 07:26

I did hear on the weather report that this weekend the wind will swing round to the East and that will mean over night temperatures will be better. Think last night was the worst night. I know it’s still awful but on Sunday night in the SE it will come down to 15 overnight versus the 20 we had last night.

Can you take the day off? I would try to focus on only two things today: staying cool and getting some sleep.

If you can be at home, do you have a fan? I've got a fan on me permanently at the moment. When trying to have a rest, it really helps to hug one of those cool packs wrapped in a pillowcase - a frozen hot water bottle will also do (but don't use it for hot water as the strength of the rubber will be compromised). Have you got food you can eat that doesn't require cooking? Cooking really increases my temperature. Ice cream genuinely helps to cool down. Wear loose clothing if you can, and no bra!

Something I found helpful yesterday was having an activity (craft-based) I could do on my bed with my fan on me, involving barely any movement so I didn't get hot. I can't stand this feeling of waiting for cooler weather to get anything done, so it helped to be working on something.

Hope you manage to have a day of recuperation.

Unfortunately i can’t take time off. My aim for this time next year, depending on a personal financial situation working out for me, is to be able to take off the whole of July each year going forward. But for that i would need to. Become solely self employed and not bound by various contracts. I’ve identified that every July is just hell for me and I usually end up signed off anyway but long term I just want to be in a position where I have no commitment in July and can go and stay somewhere cooler further north for as long as necessary. Although Sod’s Law is the moment I’m in a position to do that we will get a series of wet Julys!

Outside last night was really cool here...chilly almost but it made zero difference to the internal temperature, as the house was so cooked from the blazing sun all day that it just didn't really cool down.

Never. I have literally never said this. I love it when it's cold. All that cold, fresh air around me is bliss. I love having my heavy duvet on, my snuggly hot water bottle and my fleecy zip up on.

Does it cost a lot to run? Also, what is the energy rating? I saw one which was A++ but does that mean it’s better for the environment or more economical? It’s a maze of information to make sense of but I can’t face heat like this all the time.

It's a heat pump and can heat as well as cool. It seems fairly cheap to run. This is the bill for the large unit in the kitchen. It's cheap enough that we're not scared to turn it on when it gets too warm, but we don't run it unless the inside temperature gets above 25-26°C.

£11 for June seems very reasonably given the temperatures of the recent heatwave.

It’s 8.10 and I’m already so hot, sweaty and miserable!

I absolutely HATE this heat and wish it would just FUCK OFF!!

ConstantlyFuriosa · 06/07/2026 19:48

I don’t think it’s possible to be positive about it. It’s objectively disgusting.

I slept downstairs on the settee one night as it was cooler (on my own … bliss)! I think a few people have been doing the same.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 10/07/2026 08:43

On account of there being no air con units available anywhere I have become the crazy fan lady.

I've got 3 of the magic John handheld fans, one camping fan, 3 water air coolers, and just ordered a wall mounted slim line fan.

Despite all these fans it feels like the air is not moving at all.

So I need more fans. A fan army. Enough fans to create a tornado within my room. Must. Buy. More. Fans.

And who needs to worry about energy bills for heating when it's this bloody hot!

Wish I lived in a house with solar panels though (am in a rented flat so, not going to happen...)....they must have an absolute excess of energy at the moment with this absolutely blistering near constant sun we've got currently!

I was so exhausted from the heat yesterday that I literally just crashed out last night (also had a lovely kidney stone pain flare-up....which wipes me out mentally) until this morning. I've got work tonight so kow I've got to somehow try and get some sl epmin a bedroom that is currently back up to nearly 26 degrees. I've got a headache and eczema flare-ups and I really have just sodding had enough of this 😭😡

Me and DS slept in the lounge last heat wave. It was so much cooler. He took his mattress down, I arranged some cushions on the floor

BlackeyedSusan · 10/07/2026 11:26

Flat got down to 30 overnight. It's hotter upstairs. Can't be arsed to take the thermometer up there.
