Have barely slept and now the temperature is only going to climb again until tonight 😭 Arthritis in my neck, lumbar spine, hip, and ankle (all down my right side for some reason) has flared because of... the heat! 🥵 And has mostly kept me awake. As soon as I open the windows now the noise will rush in and I'm so fed up with it.

Hope others have had a better night than I have!

Sadly not, I’m in a similar position. I wake up hurting all over in this heat and especially if I have the fan on me but if I keep a window open I’m woken around 3-4am by the morning traffic as we live on a main road that runs through our village. So I’m damned if I do, damned if I don’t.

Autumn can not come soon enough imo. But that’s of course if we don’t have an Indian summer (please, please don’t let that be the case). Rain please, lots of it.

EmeraldRoulette · 30/07/2026 08:29

Came here to rant about a terrible night

awful

JewelleryCat · 30/07/2026 08:29

@baroqueandblue @Redsparkleydeeleyboppers thst sounds awful for both of you 💐

I agree with the lots of rain. I’ve just seen on GMB that a lot of places are in drought

LBC right now talking about the heat

Whosthetabbynow · 30/07/2026 16:44

Interesting that others are affected in such ways by this unbearable heat. I’ve been waking up so tired and achy. Is that dehydration? Also I’ve got a mild sore throat and very sore lips possibly from the much-needed fan blowing on me all night. Luckily it’s cooler today here in SE London. Ps why would wankers oppose a reservoir? Me me me I’m all right jack

EmeraldRoulette · 30/07/2026 17:18

@Whosthetabbynow yes that probably is dehydration

Because hydration will lubricate your joints if you see what I mean.

Whosthetabbynow · 30/07/2026 17:28

@EmeraldRoulette Ah right. Well I’m post menopause so I’m guessing the joints aren’t the best lubricated

EmeraldRoulette · 30/07/2026 17:36

@Whosthetabbynow I think that might be a separate issue - basically we all need water to produce synovial fluid. I'm somebody who drinks a lot of water. So in this weather, I'm like a human Reservoir! Except now I contain quite a lot of orange squash because the water got boring.

obviously, I was awake most of the night because I always am

smell of smokewas overwhelming, I rang the fire brigade and they said they had several reports and they knew what it was

This morning the details emerged that we were caught at the midpoint of four fires, three of which were deliberately set. Other one was some kind of sparking machinery incident 👀

JewelleryCat · 30/07/2026 17:38

The heat has been giving me a few headaches which isn’t good and because of the fan, I’ve been having dry eyes and dry lips too

“Three of which were deliberately set.”

Humans make me despair sometimes.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 30/07/2026 20:15

Met up with my friend today and while it was still so muggy and hot it was overcast, so we were at least able to have a bit of a walk round the city.

About five seconds of rain just now. I think the weather gods are taking the piss at this point.

Lifeomars · 30/07/2026 20:20

BooseysMom · 29/07/2026 18:56

Its the same on the ITV regional weather programme. That crazy weatherman Des going around interviewing people who love the sun and heat. Never mind the fact we are officially in drought, wildlife is suffering not being able to find food, farmers have massively less crop yields and are losing thousands every year which inevitably means higher food prices. When will these people wake up to what's happening to the world?!

That's the one I watch! I have reached the stage of wanting to throttle Des and the two newsreaders waffling on about the "lovely sunshine" and I swear that a few days back when Des was informing us that temperatures were going to drop by about 7 blessed degrees, the idiot woman news reader started going on about having to take a cardigan out with her. Did you see it last night when they showed the gardens at Chatsworth house where the lawns have burnt away to reveal a centuries old original planting design? The trio of fools just marvelled over it without any acknowledgement of what this actually means in terms of climate change.

Thesquaregiraffe · 30/07/2026 20:25

Look! Grey and dark clouds that look really rainy - it’s so humid too!

not a fucking drop of rain! Not one drop! Urrghhh!

It on.y rained for about five seconds but there’s the welcoming smell of petrichor.

EmeraldRoulette · 30/07/2026 20:30

@Thesquaregiraffe ooh ducks 😍

That looks really pretty

We’re really lucky to have this on our doorstep. I’m doing a picture each month of the lake and the weir (which is opposite and today smelt horrid and of stale water). It’ll be interesting to see all the pictures together in month order 😊

Thesquaregiraffe · 30/07/2026 20:38

Look how lovely it looked in April! (Picture taken from the other side of the lake)

@ConstantlyFuriosa i like the smell of petrichor 🙂

@Thesquaregiraffe very pretty photos 🙂

ConstantlyFuriosa · 30/07/2026 21:28

Me too @JewelleryCat

That is stunning, @Thesquaregiraffe

Just had an absolute deluge! (Sorry to all those still waiting). It’s stopped now, though, and the forecast still looks horrendous for the foreseeable.

Everything crossed we all get rain soon.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 30/07/2026 21:29

When it started I felt like I’d just seen a unicorn.

EmeraldRoulette · 30/07/2026 21:43

@Thesquaregiraffe I think my next move is going to be near somewhere like that, how lovely

@ConstantlyFuriosa lucky you! No rain in the forecast for us. It looks like there's going to be quite a lot all over the country. Perhaps I should get on the train just go and look at it!

this has really sapped my energy. I was having my usual surge of energy in May before this came along.

Thesquaregiraffe · 30/07/2026 21:49

When I’ve got all 12 pictures, I’ll try and remember to post to this thread (or start another) so you can all see the what the weather this year has done to environment here over the year.

I also take a photo each time I visit my parents from the hotel we stay at (not quite each month though) but it can be quite telling too.

Worrying times to be honest x

JewelleryCat · 30/07/2026 22:12

@EmeraldRoulette I have some health issues and while I’ve hated past summers, I seem to have really suffered in these heatwaves and they’ve been going on so long with no relief. Fans on nearly every day, dehumidifier as well

@ConstantlyFuriosa I bet it was lovely to see that deluge

ConstantlyFuriosa · 30/07/2026 22:21

It was amazing but it’s stopped again now and bbc weather which shows the forecast for about a fortnight still has bloody 28 degrees up until the 12th of August! Piss off, heat and sun!

JewelleryCat · 30/07/2026 22:43

I never know which forecast to go with. BBC Weather, Met Office, accuweather or something else or none at all
