I've been feeling like this too. I was even momentarily wondering if I could adapt and enjoy it, until I realised that back in May and June it was more of a shock to the system, whereas now it's just banal. I don't want to live in shock or banality! But being disabled in the particular way that I am means that I also don't have to move around outside in it much at all, if I don't feel up to it. I generally have the privilege of being able to pick my moments, but many people don't have that sort of choice and it is desperately uncomfortable and even deeply upsetting for some. How can people be expected to live like this without a massive push to adapt the country to the changing climate?

Their strategy seems to pretend its not happening. This country does not look after its people. Instead there seems to be determination to make life as uncomfortable and hard as possible

Today in London has been awful: tube awful, my airless no air con office awful and now the train home is half the size of rammed with hot bodies. A very obese man has squeezed in next to me and I’m boiling!
i am starting to really really struggle now in this weather

And it didnt take long to find Exibit fucking A Yes it was much better for kids to end up in hospital than to switch the air con on.

Is it really going to take a tragedy and a manslaughter charge for ppl to wake the fuck up

JewelleryCat · 29/07/2026 18:22

People should be able to use AC whether they are a permanent or temporary resident

Thesquaregiraffe · 29/07/2026 18:42

Why did I look … just why!? Mind you, I found myself getting quite excited about the “only” 25 on Friday. And! there appears to be a hint of some rain maybe next Tuesday - but there is quite a long time for that to move back up to 30+ between now and then.

Mind blowing isn’t it? They should be taken to task EVERY time they do this ignorant biased reporting! In fact the whole media has been a disgrace over this whole summer. I genuinely hope it’s so cold in November it makes them as ill as I’ve been for the last ten weeks!

Its the same on the ITV regional weather programme. That crazy weatherman Des going around interviewing people who love the sun and heat. Never mind the fact we are officially in drought, wildlife is suffering not being able to find food, farmers have massively less crop yields and are losing thousands every year which inevitably means higher food prices. When will these people wake up to what's happening to the world?!

I think you’re right. Sadly until media bias stops telling us all we should all love the heat and that the myth continues “oh it’s only a few days a year “ we have no hope.

Sweating 😰 after driving in air con, shopping in air con then just bringing everything inside with no air con and just moving around.

Can I join for a moan!

This weather is so horrendous I work with animals so my day is now starting very early. Long boring bit during the worst of the heat and then back to the animals late at night.

Then try to sleep befoe getting up early again on repeat for what feels like weeks!

The animals are really suffering and gettin bored and restless due to less exercise and enrichment.

Please can it rain and be cold soon....

the80sweregreat · 29/07/2026 20:12

Molleeee, yep, all hot weather haters are welcome here !! Poor animals , at least we can sit by a fan , but must be awful for the animals.

Do you mean external shutters?

literally counting the hours for today to be over. Although it's not really over until about 4 o'clock in the morning, I think.

No, internal. Like this:

@the80sweregreat A lot of hotter places than the UK don't have the humidity we do. Also they're closer to the equator, so the days aren't as long as they are here in the summer.

I've been trying to save water by not flushing after a wee, but I'm afraid in this weather showers are lifeline, because I feel cooler for about ten minutes and it's bliss.

ETA. My mum lives in Oxfordshire and they're trying to build another reservoir. All the NIMBYs are moaning about it, despite the hosepipe ban and the droughts, and there being a load of new houses being built in about seven different areas between where she lives and Oxford. There's a load of new housing estates springing up in Cambs as well, so we'll need a new reservoir soon unless we want to run out of water.

Edited

Exactly why should we go to bed a sweaty mess. In my case its a bath and i need to as the heat in the Sanctuary sauna exacerbates my bowel issues A bath is all some of us have They really have no idea how some of us have to live No idea at all

This is sick and disturbing. What's happened to the UK when people can't use their common sense and brains and they had air con to use !it's sick rhat two children have ended up so Ill that they have been hospitalised.

I'm feeling very anxious about the heat now and incidental issues with it.

AmazingSummer · 29/07/2026 22:34

@SapphireSeptember obviously we need more resovoirs I can't understand why anyone would have an issue with that ! Building yes but water ...

it is sick and totally two tier. If it wasnt ppl in need of temp/social housing and more well off its use would have been allowed from the start

JenniferBooth · 29/07/2026 22:37

Wouldnt mind a new resoirvoir here Wouldnt bother me at all.

SapphireSeptember · 29/07/2026 23:42

@AmazingSummer and @JenniferBooth That's cos you're sensible! My friend works for Anglian Water, the amount of ridiculousness she had to deal with when they announced the hosepipe ban was shocking. I also think we need to look at desalination plants. We're surrounded by water. They had a machine to purify sea water on the HMS Victory, if they could do it in the 18th century we can do it now on a bigger scale.

Fuckers! I'm sure they'd be changing their tune if they were facing a corporate manslaughter charge.

Have barely slept and now the temperature is only going to climb again until tonight 😭 Arthritis in my neck, lumbar spine, hip, and ankle (all down my right side for some reason) has flared because of... the heat! 🥵 And has mostly kept me awake. As soon as I open the windows now the noise will rush in and I'm so fed up with it.

Hope others have had a better night than I have!
