Ahh, thanks. The flight is also adding to climate change too! It is a double edged sword.

Yeh but those places are set up differently. The UK doesn’t have the infrastructure for shit like this. I’m just laying next to a fan. I’m doing housework as I go but it’s making my hair sweat

I have thick hair and just tie it up , but it is so sweaty isn’t it! I love shops with the air con , tend to hang around the freezer aisles! lol

No AC, but we’ve just arrived at our accommodation and it’s blissfully cool, thankfully. The train we’ve been on all day had strong AC so it was an awful shock getting off at the station to the most ferocious blast of heat.

@MotherofPearl that sounds awful, just walking out into a block of heat. At least your accommodation is cool

Mind blowing isn’t it? They should be taken to task EVERY time they do this ignorant biased reporting! In fact the whole media has been a disgrace over this whole summer. I genuinely hope it’s so cold in November it makes them as ill as I’ve been for the last ten weeks!

Oh they will be moaning about how cold it is when its only 13c

out of interest which channel was it? I ask because I’ve made my own campaign this year constantly emailing these organisations that report in this biased fashion. Eventually one town newspaper actually ran an article about it after one of their journalists (who also hates summer) agreed with my feedback and contacted me to research his article.

I can't cope with the lack of light and if it goes down below zero I really struggle.

but normally summer is nice here. It's not normally like being in an oven from the end of May onwards! An English spring and summer is normally a thing of beauty!

i'm really hoping we get some actual nice weather in September. Otherwise, it's just a complete loss. As someone said on another one of these threads, if it's too hot to go outside and you've got the curtains drawn... it might as well be winter!

I don't think I go to hot countries. I've been to Australia but that was highly unusual for me. I've been to California in the winter a few few times. That is most excellent. Probably a maximum of 25°. Lots of greenery and pretty flowers. It probably doesn't look like that in the summer I don't know.

Worryingly I think I’m becoming acclimatised to this heat a bit. I do hybrid style working and today was an office day. I walked up to a local shop to get some lunch and to my absolute amazement found myself thinking “well this isn’t actually too bad”…. It actually did feel like I was on holiday.

But that was after sitting in a lovely cool air conditioned building for a few hours.

Back home now… sitting in the bloody dark again. The whirring of the air conditioning unit drowning out any kind of audio from the TV and not wanting to move through the fear of sweating in places you didn’t know could sweat.

I think if anyone said to me “oh isn’t the weather just glorious at the moment”, I would have a full on toddler tantrum.

Well, this current heatwave is having an interesting effect on my body that I hadn't predicted happening.

I'm trying to lose some weight at the moment to reduce my risk of diabetes due to my strong family history of it and I'm currently using a self-bought libre 2+ sensor to get an idea of what kinds of things agree with my body, what causes high spikes in my blood sugar levels (which I want to avoid due to having a condition often linked with insulin resistance, which spikes don't help over time), so I want to avoid those.

I've been fine up until yesterday and today when no matter what I eat, my blood sugar levels have been generally a lot lower and has even dipped several times to like 3.8-3.2 at any given moment, once for hours at a time and sometimes right after I've eaten and takes a good while to come up again. I've used a sensor before during milder weather and my sugar levels haven't behaved like this before.

Apparently heat can increase your metabolism because you're trying harder to keep cool, blood vessels open up etc which can potentially increase how sensitive your body is to insulin, moreso than it usually is. Going to keep an eye on it, thankfully other then feeling quite hungry I haven't had many other symptoms of hypoglycemia like nausea, feeling faint, confused etc, but have felt tired a lot, which makes sense I guess if there isn't much extra energy just floating about to be used.

in other news I’ve just had to rearrange an appointment for a blood test due to walking into the surgery that had NO means of cooling the air and made me feel immediately lightheaded. The irony being the blood test is a follow up on last week’s visit to the GP because I had a physical and mental breakdown because of the heat and they wanted to do blood tests to see if anything is causing my heat intolerance! Absolutely beggars belief that a public building doesn’t have even a fan and that they had the doors to outside open when the air outside is even hotter ! Add that to the being offered antidepressants last week when they should know it worsens heat intolerance and i think a massive shake up is required around dealing with ever hotter summers!

I watch someone called Cecila Blomdahl on YouTube and she lives in Svalbard. On her last video, it was 12c and raining, I thought that was bliss because she lit the log burner and it just looked so cosy

You do become acclimatized I think. I do still hate it, but it’s not as bad now. Mostly I stay out of it though tbf

Believe me I do ! Considering I was a sobbing wreck last week in there as hadn’t slept in weeks and wanted to rip off my own skin with the overheating and itching you would have thought they would understand!

Its like my HA refusing to see the elephant in the room.

I cannot believe they’re not having to be more accountable for all this! Surely it’s basic health and safety and welfare of their tenants.

that's literally the reason why. When I was working in the US, the hot weather was fine because you spent most of your time inside an air-conditioned building

so if you ask me to go for an evening walk now in 34° I don't want to. But if I had been in the air-conditioned office all day, that would be fine - probably half an hour would be enough but it would be okay. Edit - i'm in dire need of a walk but it's not going to cool down today. And I don't feel safe wandering around at night.

Also sorry, I'm repeating myself - you are breathing in nice good quality air when there is air-conditioning. You are not breathing in the soup-like air that you probably have at home.

I had use of an air-conditioned office the last time it was like this (an unusual one offf because my client hired it for a big meeting). Both days I went home and coped much better.

Heres what happened after the summer 2024 gas safety check They came and checked that we were still capped. Contractor asked me to move stuff out of the way of the boiler despite the fact that we are capped. You cant get any safer than that. I refused because it was bloody hot and not neccessary.
A week later i get a letter saying that i denied them entry!!! Then i get another letter saying that HO wants to visit because of the state of the flat id let the housework go because of the heat. Well i thought i had denied them entry😑
Now thats HUGE gaslighting.
HO comes round in the August during another heatwave with her assistant and i kept them here as long as possible I really wanted them to feel the benefit of this sauna. We were told to just use a fan and open a window. Last years check went ok. THIS years check is 10th August.

Oh and the reason the contractor wanted to take a photo of my boiler despite the fact we are capped?
Because they have to do this to prove they have been inside because they tell so many lies about not gaining entry. In fact my HA were on Channel 4s Dispatches back in 2019 and these lies were exposed on there.

Agree with another poster @JenniferBooth that is truly shocking!

I've been feeling like this too. I was even momentarily wondering if I could adapt and enjoy it, until I realised that back in May and June it was more of a shock to the system, whereas now it's just banal. I don't want to live in shock or banality! But being disabled in the particular way that I am means that I also don't have to move around outside in it much at all, if I don't feel up to it. I generally have the privilege of being able to pick my moments, but many people don't have that sort of choice and it is desperately uncomfortable and even deeply upsetting for some. How can people be expected to live like this without a massive push to adapt the country to the changing climate?
