People who say that this is the model for UK summers going forward are actually talking complete bollocks. There is no data to back up that idea.

I get that! I hate it. My bedroom and living room face east, my kitchen, bathroom and DS's bedroom face west. I stuck temporary blackout blinds over the window in DS's room (with it open a crack so it's locked and the glass won't crack) and it made his room much cooler. I'm on the ground floor as well, so apart from the little windows at the top I daren't have my windows wide open, especially the living room and my room as they face the street and there's no fence or anything. These flats were built in the 1950s-60s but have really big windows. If you could afford it, and get permission as I rent from a HA, I'd have the metal security shutters that look like wooden shutters fitted. There's quite a few houses round here that have them and I think they're such a good idea.

currently sitting on a bench on the other side of the building. It's cooler this side and there's more air but they tend to suffer more in the daytime. I don't know what the answer is.

Has anyone found with their windows open so much that there getting a lot of spiders? Had a massive one by the bedroom door last night!

Im currently on holiday in a caravan and I cant open the windows because its like invasion of the spiders. I am boiling and just want to go home to my air conditioned bedroom 😩

Solidarity to everyone who is heartily sick of this weather and scared about what it means - this has been the worst summer for heat and drought I’ve ever experienced. So worrying - and it’s so miserable to live through!

They make me angry. No care for the suffering of animals, wildlife, the farming community and those of us who become seriously ill in this prolonged misery. Sorry I’m at full bitter and angry stage now, but I had a breakdown eventually over it last week and I don’t think I can take anymore.

I decided to avoid it after I found out what it was about!

Re The Rapture. The reviews were terrible and I can’t take any more wasted hours.

I didn’t mind the rapture , but the intense heat they tried to portray made me twitchy as there isn’t any let up with these heatwaves where I live ! I can see why people didn’t like it much , but I did enjoy it.

Is everyone as fed up as I am with the heat! The forecaster said it’s hot here next week too , just so cheesed off !

I agree. I loathe this heat. 35 degrees today in London I believe. My cat is suffering. My heavily pregnant niece is suffering. The extreme temperatures of August 2020 killed my dad in his sleep. (He had COPD so was compromised and the humidity overnight finished him off). Wish it’d fuck off x

@EmeraldRoulette Probably, but all the ones I've seen actually in houses (and not in pictures online) are white, so good at reflecting heat. Being able to open the windows at night would be heaven.

Hello, can I join? I’ve just found this thread. I’m getting sick of the heat as well, I’ve found it so hard to cope with even with the fans on and everything. My house retains heat as well so it just makes it hotter

I’m on an interrailing holiday and have just arrived in Salzburg where it’s a stifling 33c and set to hit 37c on Friday. So much for imagining it would be cool in the mountains.

For me it’s the sun blazing in. Don’t think it’s good for anyone’s mental health. You can’t sit in it. You can’t even walk on our patio without something on your feet. It’s just insidious

You would think it would be cooler in the mountains but those sound awful temperatures and the train won’t help either. Does it have AC?

I am going to a hot country for a small break later on this year , but it’ll have air con and shade and pools and all the things I don’t have here.
Haven’t been abroad for years , but considering I moan about the Uk heat , I do feel a bit of a hypocrite to be honest!
